    Just a little note: I don’t think I properly got across what I meant by “not revising for english very much” and “winging one of the exams” - I obviously revised throughout the year, worked hard and did a lot for revision in the lessons as well, but I did not revise English in the way I did my other subjects. I never sat down and spent a whole day on it, but particularly didn’t do loads the days leading up to the actual exams, something I did do for my other two subjects. I think this was partially just the nature of English Literature not being so content heavy like my other subjects, but also my realisation that I was able to pull of the grades I needed without as much work (which I was absolutely not able to do for History and Psychology).
    Everyone and every subject is different. x

      This was worded perfectly and is so true!! for me and my subjects, Maths is the same. It’s not as much about content but practicing throughout the year, so I don’t do as much right before the exams I guess and when I use the phrase ‘winging it’ it can sometimes be slightly misunderstood when it’s not always a bad thing!! ☺️

    hii, im just starting year 12 and i decided to take english lit because i loved it at gcse, i worked really hard to improve my essays and was able to do fairly well.
    the issue for me is that i dont actually read at all, i only took lit because i like STUDYING it rather than actually reading books (hope this doesnt end up backfiring lol)
    do you think its important to read widely alongside the a level or can you still do well as long as you know the texts you're studying and a bit about the genres? (im doing aqa so we have a crime paper and a tragedy paper so understanding each genre is quite important i think)

    • @viloet3332
      @viloet3332 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hey ! in year 13 and im doing comedy and tragedy too, its honestly fine but obviously try to read about the context of your plays, perhaps other similar work your writer has done and about how texts were written back then in relation to your genre and your good : )

    • @Jeta_

      For POETRY I did: Sylvia Plath's poems, Ted Hughes' poems and Paradise Lost by John Milton.
      For PLAYS I did: Hamlet, A Streetcar Named Desire and The Duchess of Malfi.
      For COURSEWORK: we read 4 books but the 2 I ended up writing on were Tess of the D'Ubervilles by Thomas Hardy and Atonement by Ian McEwan.
