      I was actually following this project way back in 2005 when it was all still just concept art and dreams. It's amazing to see it actually happening. But yeah, they've been very much under the radar. Now that they've launched on Steam, it's going to get crazy for them.

      +Westonsammy Not quite as insane as Star Citizen. Have you at least heard of that?

    • @befru
      @befru 9 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      +Ailobyte All EA had to do was steal the best maps and features from the first 2 Battlefront games and it would be an amazing game with a minimum amount of work for their dev team. Once again we are shocked about how EA will go out of their way to ruin any game franchise they touch.

    • @unambitious
      @unambitious 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +Frank van Veen They could have made cod like elements just like BF4 has TDM/Domination maps. SWBF looks like they went full CoD. You never go full CoD.

    • @bewati1

      I agree that they should, but the game will sell good enough too not spend time adding complex gameplay elements that make games awesome.

    I remember this as a Homeworld 2 mod. That's some dedication.
    This game is VERY impressive in it's scope and execution. This game would be crazy if a publisher threw real money at it.

      +Anime Summit Somehow I doubt that's ever going to happen though.

    • @FireHawkGaming
      @FireHawkGaming 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I hope not. Many publishers ruin games. EA ruined battlefield and are going to ruin Battlefront. Activision ruined CoD and Destiny. Microsoft have near ruined Halo, they also rushed Freelancer out (Yes, the game that could have been Star Citizen but over a decade ago!)

    • @PHeMoX
      @PHeMoX 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      FireHawk Gaming Yeah, it's annoying to see those publishers ruin all these big name games indeed. But it should be expected when publishers / developers like EA and Ubisoft keep insisting the casual gamer is their target audience and is a 'dumb gamer' that needs hand-holding and spoon-feeding throughout games. I so disagree with their mindset. They should focus on gameplay and making games challenging again instead. Star Wars Battlefront definitely will be the next big title that's being ruined by this, assuming the on-rails gameplay plays a big role.

    Nice to see a modern game in the same vein as the old Star Wars Battlefront games, which had levels that mixed space combat with troop gameplay. I originally overlooked this but just picked it up based on your video. Cheers, Scott :)

    "Like Planetside2, in that you have these set piece missions you have to put together"
    Respectfully, Planetside doesn't fit into this category. Planetside 2 is a massive sandbox where you fight over continents, without loading screens and with persistence. If anything, the downside to Planetside 2 is that it's SO open ended, it's so sandboxy that many people find it difficult when starting out to figure out just exactly they have to do.
    It's an awesome game, and I love your videos, just felt like it should be politely pointed out. Battlefield - session shooter and very restricted. Planetside 2 huge open-ended gameplay without any win conditions or gameplay restrictions. Cheers :)

    I just love this. Exactly what i predicted a year ago, that (back then we had seen jack shit of what Star Citizen really could become) eventually some talented lower budget smaller dev teams would pick up the genre and accomplish what Star Citizen claimed to be able to accomplish, long before Chris Roberts even gets it into Beta.
    And here we are in 2015, first Pulsar: Lost Colony, and now this, Angels Fall First.
    We now have at least TWO seperate independent games developed by relatively tiny studios on a tiny budget, which already have accomplished the very core gameplay systems, mechanics and technicalities that Star Citizen talked the talk about, but failed to walk the walk.
    Granted, after the live multicrew SC demo i was very impressed and am now hopeful for Star Citizen having a bright future.
    BUT, my point is still the same. Here we have tiny indie studios who ALREADY managed to put together the very "revolutionary" multicrew walk in the ship, man a station, get out and fight with guns, go to space stations or planets, and board a fighter and join the space battle, gameplay. Way way before Star Citizen even is close to having it in Alpha.
    You gotta admit, it shows that the TOOLS and the TALENT is what matters in games development, not monetary assets.
    Naturally, Star Citizen will have incredible detail and mesh / texture / art quality, thats where MUCH of the millions of dollars goes into. But it is still funny and a bit sad that small indie devs already beat them to the punch, in terms of the core gameplay.
    Now imagine if a AAA developer does this, if they realize that, hey, there's a lot of money to be made in this genre.
    Imagine if EA or Ubisoft or Square Enix (in reference to their many anime space shooters etc) revealed a fully budgeted 100-200 man dev team game based around space combat in capital ships, multicrew, fps, same stuff as Star Citizen, Pulsar and this game AFF.
    I would not be surprised if a AAA game with the exact same core gameplay as Star Citizen comes out, fully polished and relatively bug free, before Star Citizen's PU v1.0
    It would be great for us as gamers, but really bad for SC. They gotta step it up, there's no resting time to be had in this industry, you constantly have hundreds of other extremely talented dev studios out there, looking to make a buck AND looking to make high quality good games. They aint just gonna chill out and wait for Star Citizen to do it, they'll try to do it themselves.
    God dammit, its good to be a space sim fan. I predict we may see many sleeper hits before SC is released.
    As i said, great news for us as gamers, but bad news for SC, as it may be overtaken by more efficent, polished and fast releases.
    WOW that was a long essay. LOL, sorry Scott. But i hope it at least made some basic interesting reading for someone out there, if anyone agrees with my logic about this.

    • @flashbackflip
      @flashbackflip 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Baleur i'm not sure are you trolling or just uber naive? To compare fidelity of this thing and SC is just laughable to say the least.
      The only point i kinda agree is that it is good to be sci-fi genre fan again - after all those long years)) BTW, you obviously do not link the rise of the genre with SC, right? Thinking that happened all by itself?

      +Baleur I agree that small teams like this can accomplish really amazing things compared to big budget projects (just look at Limit Theory!) but Angels Fall First is nothing like the scope of Star Citizen and it has been in development for over 7 years as well so they really aren't comparable. Better to compare Star Citizen with No Man's Sky (a small team with fairly small budget) or to Limit Theory (a one-man project) since they are all trying to make very similar games :)

    This game started off as a mod, two mods, actually, and now it's going to become a full-fledged game.
    I can see the desire for this to be an epic title foaming at the mouths of the developers, who've probably treated this universe and story as their love-child since the days leading up to their mod's creations. I've no doubt that when this game is polished, it will command awe from all who see it.

    the new battlefront coming out has no campaign, no clone wars era, no galactic conquest. no space battles, and the AT-AT's are on rails....basically its battlefield 4 style pick a server and be forced to play whatever mode and map is on at the time. it's been claimed they're gonna add some of these things back in but why would you want such a gutted title for full 60 dollar price with no real content just to pay more later for dlc and expansions that add in what should have been there in the first place. this is EA's micro-transaction engine at work lol

      ***** yup no clone wars, came from the devs own mouths. all i am wondering is if they have created this content now anyways just because of the fans outcry about how gutted the game is gonna be. like theres nearly no real content when its released, there has been talk of stuff being added in later BUT they have not said WHAT will be added and IF it will be free and HOW LONG until it is added. we are given a MASSIVE lack of details and just told hey your game is very stripped and empty but it looks amazing though *wink*......

    I think there's room for a game like this in the market. Big epic massive set-piece gameplay. Not everything needs to be an MMO, and not everything needs to be some sort of open sandbox! This doesn't look too dissimilar to some of the Unreal Tournament game types (which is perhaps not that surprising, being based on UT), which I have a lot of fond memories of.
    What I really like is the multi-discipline stuff, combined arms and strategic gameplay all in one is pretty cool. And massively complex!

    It's about time someone relatively youtube-famous covered this game. For those of you that are afraid to buy it because of relatively low playercounts; just get it. You can contribute to that never being a problem, and to further allay that hesitation it has very competent bots, who actually carry out their objectives and use almost all the equipment in the game.
    You're getting many times the features of Battlefront for 20% of the price - no tacked-on DLC or season passes or pre-order bonuses or whatever garbage the AAA industry butchers games with these days. The full thing. Ten quid.

    This game is looking friggen great... the concept is anyway. I love that the debre fields are actually there. Other games there's all that stuff but it just feels like you don't have to worry about it. In this you do. Hopefully the game is a lot better when complete and not a bust.

    Rough edges or not, this game was the first I've seen that allowed you to feel like you are in a real moving spaceship in a battle like that. So I thought it was really cool designs and art.
    I only tried it a long time ago when it was a demo using UDK.
    I remember the ground combat being harder compared to most FPS.
    I have no idea where they've taken it since then but if they turn it into an MMO-like type of thing where each planet is map and you can transition between these via gates (maybe filling spaces with procedural generated environments) , build some pseudo-persistent overlay that gives more meaningful context to battles.. well then I think it would overtake stuff like DUST514 or Planetside2.

    I'm proud to have supported this game by buying early access. But the thing is, that's all that you're doing by buying this. It's not finished and it has very serious problems. The potential however is enormous. If you're looking for ground based sci-fi team oriented combat without any glitches or performance issues, just play Planet Side, though I am rooting for this game.

    I'd just like to say that I played this way back in a pre-alpha phase whilst it was still much more a mod than standalone. The guys developing it are doing so on a "zero budget" witch basically means their back pockets. It was actually not terrible back then and looks just that much better now.

  • @Crystalgate
    @Crystalgate 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    This does remind me a lot of the Battlefield series. The Battlefield series started out as featuring infantry combat, land vehicle combat, naval combat and air combat. Naval combat was quickly cut out and players tended to prefer maps with as much close quarter action as possible. Later Battlefield series put a higher emphasis on the close quarter action, at the cost of making the game feel less like an actual war.
    If this game is to avoid a similar fate, then ship to ship combat has to be awesome. The developers need to think carefully about how things will actually play out and not too much on what sounds awesome.

  • @CarsNemoFan
    @CarsNemoFan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Scott, you could have shown people the Newtonian-like flight model. Disengage the 'jetfighters in space' and start going all over the place, orbiting targets and other nifty hijinks.
    I'm sure it's one of the draws of this game.
