I've never worked a job, in the states, that didn't have a contract which stated what your job duties were, what your pay would be, how many hours you were able to work, and how much holiday time you would have. If you get a job that doesn't tell you these things, run far away. Thank you for posting the information about London!

In Chile the minimum legal paid holidays are 15 days. It always surprises me when people from the USA are surprised when they learn that other countries have a minimum amount of paid days off stipulated by law.

M Chapman so you don't get any holidays at all? that's not even 2 days per week. I work 35 hours per week ( over 4 days ) and get 32 days per year , (I get 2 days extra for seniority ), which works out at 8 weeks paid holiday. I have 188 days off work per year in total. I earn less , about $92,000pa but I think I have a much better life/ work balance and no health or pension worries for the future.

in Brazil we have payed vocations 30 days per year and a 13th salary in the end of the year. The salary is per month and usually very low,by the other hand we have many securities garanteed by law ( people complain here but forget about that,we are in better situatn the workers from USA). The working hour is 8h per day ( usually;some jobs have abit more but not excedding 12h per day),if you exceedd that, the company should pay you more based in how many extra worked houirs you did.

Employers in the United States don't see u as a human being with a life. They only care about profits. They work you as cheaply as they can, as much as they can, with mediocre benefits (sometimes no benefits) and until u die. They see their people as expendible donkeys and slaves. Many employers don't offer maternity leave, so u are actually risking your job if u and your spouse have a baby. Living and working in the U.S. has become very stressfull. And I am an American saying this.

Finland: total of 24 - 30 days of vacation per year. In private sector that means 4-5 week long vacation and for public sector it means 5-6 weeks of vacation. First year at your job, you will get 2 days of vacation for each month you work. From the second year on, you will get 2,5 days of vacation for each month. If you work at the private sector, a week long vacation means that you will spend 6 days (mon - sat) from your "vacation bank" and in public sector only mon-fri will be counted.
Normal work week means 36 - 38 hours of work from monday to friday.

In Greece where i live it's 25 days paid annual leave in most jobs but some times depending on the employer it is 15 days paid annual leave. Whether it's a f/t or p/t job an employee needs to sign a contract. Standard working hours for an office job is 9-5 but with overtime you can't tell anymore. People who work in retail and restaurants/bars work more than 8 hrs on a daily basis. I have lived and worked in London a long time ago and as far as i can see nothing's changed regarding employment. Great video Jess! Xxx

I am from Toronto, Canada and typical workweek here is 37.5 hours, unless you are a lawyer, accountant, investment banker etc. and then your hours are insane. Employment law says that employees get 10 days of vacation per year, but almost all companies provide more than the minimum, and usually we get 15 days of vacation per year, and if an employer is generous we would also get 3-5 personal needs days per year, for those Dr. appointments or bureaucratic errands one needs to take care of etc.

The NI number also means your NI contributions will go towards a pension for you. Even if you leave London and the UK many years before you retire, you might still be entitled to some pension from the UK if you paid national insurance contributions here and NI contributions can count towards other things like sick pay, maternity pay and unemployment benefit but you have to pay them for a certain length of time before you become eligible for any benefits.

There's danger in every country around the world and London is a big city. I found this video of yours to be very very useful and informative. In India, we don't get too many holidays while in work, as the work pressure will be too high and the salaries offered will be quite less!! I find that working in the UK or any country in European Union for that matter is a matter of honor!! I request you to keep uploading videos like this about work environment in the UK. Thanks

Think I have it pretty good cause the 20 days exclude public holidays and personal days! Either way 20+ is splendid! I think the 55 hr week is the average but would vary depending on industry and corporate culture. I work 40 to 45 while some of my friends work a lot more (i.e. lawyers). 😀

    So many leave benefits

Australian private employers provide 20 days of annual leave. Public sector sometimes provide more depending on the workplace agreement negotiated by the union. This leave is on top of the 90 days long service leave when you accrue 10 years of full-time employment or an equivalent if you work part time. 😁😁😁
Full time work in the private sector varies from 38 to 40 hours; 37.5ish hours in the public sector.

We have a minimum of 5-week holiday a year with a little more than full pay, some have an extra week + some have also free at holy days with full pay and we do also have the right to stay at home on the children's first sick day with full pay, one year of maternity leave, where we get a little more than the minimum wage
The full-time workweek is 37 hour

The legal minimum leave in the UK is actually 28 days, for most people that is 20 flexible days and 8 public holidays but if you have to work on a public holiday you are entitled to a day off in lieu. In many companies it increases with seniority and length of employment so I work a 4 day week and get 34 days per year after 25 years with the same organisation. That works out to 6.5 weeks plus 8 public holidays.

In Australia permanent employees are given 4 weeks paid leave for holidays and two weeks paid leave for illness. Casual employees are not entitled to this but are paid around 20% more to make up for it although in reality casuals don’t usually get 20% more as employers pay whatever they can get away with.

In Israel the minimum number of vacation days by law for a full-time employee is 10, but the more years you work in a place the more you get, and you can also negotiate. In high tech jobs as a software developer you usually get much more, 18-24 days per year.

Office n any other jobs don't work weekends we also have a lot of public holidays too. Which we don't work. So I'm quite surprised at the difference over in London & the united states
