I just recently studied in London and fell in love with the city. I hope to move there in a couple of years but as an America how were you able to legally move? Did you go for work or did you apply for citizenship?
Been dying to move since I lived there for a summer in 2014. So far it’s so been a treacherous journey of learning about visas and working and jobs and how Id be able to 1. Have enough money to fund the move and visa itself. 2. How id be able to get a job that would make me enough money to be able to afford to live there comfortably. 3. I have NO one to talk to about it or chat with all the little details and logistics and the millions of questions that arise here and there. I don’t have family or a SO who lives there to help with visas or citizenship either which seems to be the only option for those few that I know who have made the move. The ever changing laws on immigration and visas also complicate things and the overwhelming amount of money id have to save (while still affording to be able to live here in Atlanta, GA USA) don’t help the process much either. I know that all sounds so negative but the process is just so daunting and intricate. I’ve been dying to move back to the city calling to my heart since I left it!
Don't give up. :) Try to save up money and look for jobs online that offers visa sponsorship. You also shouldn't forget that as a US citizen, you are required to pay tax to the US government no matter where you live, but you can research this online for sure. Growing up my family and I visited The UK very often and loved it! This video was pretty helpful because my husband and I have been highly considering moving our family some ware around London.
Like all big International cities London has it's downside and well as it's amazing places. Be aware that if you are moving there and want a good lifestyle enjoying the unrivaled facilities you will need plenty of money, it's not a cheap city. There is so much to London beyond the obvious tourist hot spots you can spend literally years and years getting to know and enjoy the best it has to offer and that's one of it's greatest attractions.
I might be moving to London in September since I was accepted at University. I am from Germany, thus a EU citizen. Although I am REALLY excited I am also quite scared of all the challenges and new things that I have to face in 2019. So thank you for your videos, so far they really helped me a lot!
Living in London can get a bit lonely if you don't have a family or partner here because no one talks to you and asks you how your day is, no one cares about you. You go to a coffee shop the only thing the barista will say to you is "That's £2.50". You see your friends once or twice a week and that's maybe the only "social" interaction you get outside work.
I wouldn't, it's great to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. If you want to live in a beautiful English city try Cambridge, it's not cheap but it's cheaper than London, full of beautiful buildings and parks, plenty of museums, there are botanical gardens, cuisine from around the world, there are churches, at least one mosque and a synagogue, there are art galleries, cinemas, theatre, concerts both classical and popular, and if you want something specific to London, its only half an hour away by train.
I've been living in NYC since 2012, coming from Sao Paulo , believe me people don't talk or interactin New York either lol. People dont look in the eye, most of the times, that blank face or looking down their phones!! Its all a point of view. So maybe try the subway in Sao Paulo . Good luck
EchoTechsRule1 Illinois. I fucking hate this state, but I’ve never left. Just corn... forever. Also that free heathcare and not being in debt for the rest of my life would be pretty cool too.
I have to agree with that. I was in NJ and NYC two months ago for a week, the behaviour on the trains /subway was not really different, no one talked. In fact I thought people were more miserable. But that might have been the people who have to live in New Jersey...
thank you for telling us things that would help us if we "Move or Visit" London. it's important to know these things so we don't stick out like a sore thumb.
i've been looking for a place to move to (from the states) because i absolutely hate the way things are being ran in the US. this video was so informative, thank you so much! my choices are now narrowed down to England and Australia. Thank you for posting
No native Londoners? Sounds like Silicon Valley. I was born and raised in the valley before it became known as Silicon Valley. Everyone I know was born outside of Silicon Valley. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting someone from Michigan.
There are more of us born and bred Londoners in East London and South London. West and North have a more transient population. So go West and North for the buzz and East and South for cosiness and quaintness :)
It's true, I am in immigrant from Wales most of my friends and colleagues are from somewhere else. But my partner is a true Londoner. So I have a London Family.
Yes I want to move to London. I never been outside the U.S before. I’m also planning a trip to London in the beginning of next year. I want to have some job interviews lined up during my trip, if that’s possible.
I am actually live in New Jersey. I am thinking about looking at London to see what life is like there. I can only do that by actually going there. Is there a good time to go?
Very much enjoying the tips and advice. I do travel to London on occasion, yet still find things on here that are helpful. Am looking to be based in London whilst doing courier work or other security work in or around the city. Looking to live in the area around Kensington High Street Station. Keep up the great work Jess!!! Cheers!!!
Really want to live there, but the rent prices scares me. I am from the Midwest where we have lots of space and rent is cheap. It would be a huge adjustment for me, on top of the already different culture to adjust to. Probably a much easier adjustment for someone who is from New York lol.
Yes it would definitely be a huge change! It only really works for people who find value in something in London, in my personal opinion. For me, I'd love to have more space, a yard, etc. but the fact that there is so much to do here in London, I can't get anywhere else and I am ok with sacrificing the space!
Try Cambridge, it is cheaper and more friendly than London, it also more beautiful and less polluted. If you do want to go to London it's only half an hour away by train.
Haha that's true, the tube is such a quiet place, it's unbelievable. I miss London a much, hopefully one day I'll move there! Right now I have moved to Japan, I hope London come next!
I am moving there, but I want to wait til my son is older. Like high school age. My plan is to land an hr job with a company that has a location here, and there in London. Then, I could transfer in 6 years on the 2 to 5 year visa.
From my many visits to London I can definitely agree with these especially the talking on the tube lol it seems like it is forbidden.... I would love to live in London or move there one day! Expensive but perfect city for me...
I'm currently in the process of moving to London, have to get my papers for my passport and get a transcript for my job transfer prepared. Hopefully everything goes through by new year
I am moving to London...relativly soon-ish... And the one thing I can never figure out when going to other countries is how to find a doctor to go to when you're not a citizen, even if you live there. (I'm norwegian. Pretty sure I can move anywhere in europe without a visum or anything.) In norway everyone has to registrer for your own doctor, and you can't really use anyone but that one doctor...unless you change who that is. (And it's usually pretty cheap with anything health care related and a max limit per year. But I've heard england has free health care, so I guess that won't be a problem.) But how does London work there? And what's the emergency numbers? Also... How are the standards for safety on things in London? (I'm from a country in which one tiny breach of an immencly strict health code gets resturants shut down, and if you go to a plastic surgeon it is always 100% safe, because higher education is mandatory, and, again, any form of misshaps or misstreatments gets people fired and usually also the whole damned place shut down. Which makes every other country seem scary, because these misshaps actually HAPPENS there. At ALL.)
I've been waiting for this just in case I have to move there another few decades or so when I retire..lol.. As a person that lives in the country I really hate going out to dinner. It's just way too much work..lol..
I’m a junior in high school in Texas and I’ve had a dream of going to college in London since 7th grade. I feel like my soul was made to exist in London and so I can’t wait to live there but there are many things that stress me about how to move correctly and adjusting and everything, but your videos really help me and I hope u see this❤️
😂😂😂 The point made about the tube is actually true now that I think about it. Lool usually I just listen to music for the whole journey but yh, ppl hardly have convos and if you do have a convo, everyone else on the tube just looks at you like they are really listening 😂
Hello I’m from india and planning to move to London.. I’m a doctor so would like to know if there are jobs available for junior doctors and how is london as a place to live overall
Hey, getting a doctor should be easy. I don’t know where you’re from, but assuming you’re not from the EU, you pay the health surcharge and you register with a GP. There’s a really good one that I use called GP at Hand. It’s NHS, so it’s free (after you pay the surcharge obviously), which is based mostly on an app on your phone, and you have video and phone consultations. If they need to check you in real life, they have several surgeries around London and one in Birmingham too. You consult your GP on most non major issues. Emergencies should go to A&E, which is also free. All the work they do to you there is free. If you need to see a specialist, you see your GP, and they will see what they can do first, then they refer you to a specialist if you need. This can include mental health too. Sexual health and genito urinary medicine is usually self referral, so you don’t need to see your GP first, you can usually just go to that department of the hospital. Urgencies that you’re not sure are emergencies, but can’t really wait for an appointment should go to 111, a telephone urgency number. They give advice and can put you in contact with specialists by phone. With GP at Hand, they are 24/7, but getting appointments during the night can be more difficult. Dentists aren’t free for anyone, unless you fall into a special category, then the nhs would pay. It’s not likely you’d fit into the category, but it’s not overly expensive. You choose your dentist and just ask to register there.
So I am currently in a long distance relationship and my gf live in London so I’m playing on to leave the US to go live there with her but first I need to graduate high school but we will see what the future holds😂
Oh, when I went there one year during Christmas, I was expecting a Dickens Christmas to visiting the South side where another guy yelled to another guy across the street. "Merry Christmas Motherf*****r". I first thought, gee this is like being at home(States)

Nobody looks in the eyes in the tube? I found that same thing in Novosibirsk(((( Maybe it's alright for big cities, but I prefer to search someone/something beautiful when I'm in a tube/bus/etc. Anyway. it's interesting story, thank you!
Rachel and Nick radiators? They’re common throughout the UK, though a few newer places have underfloor heating instead (similar idea, but hidden and cheaper to run).
TheRenaissanceman65 Those storage heaters can still be pricey to run compared to gas though - Eco 7 is half price electricity, but gas is a third of the price of regular electricity, so still cheaper. My grandfather has storage heaters, and pays a fortune in electricity - every UK home I’ve lived in has had gas or oil heating. (In TX we had a heat pump, air conditioning/heating in one, which is much cheaper to heat the house with than direct electric heating- those are just starting to catch on in the UK too.)

I’m trying to move to London this year. No job, no flat... I’m trying to arrange everything I can from here but renting a place without visiting it sounds like a wildcard. Due to the pandemic and Brexit, I’m sure it will be hard but idk, must try 🤷🏼 I’m from Barcelona btw
@@loveandlondon You are so welcome. I have the empty nest thing going on here. LOL! I want to travel now or maybe live where I am going!. My last name is Trevillion and my grandfather is from there.
I want to move to London! It’s my dream! I am from Belgium and I don’t where to begin and my English isn’t that good and I am a bit afraid. Also if I move to London it is on my own. I got no family or friends in London and I am a bit scared of that part ... Is there anyone who can help me out? Thank You!
Camille Lecluse honestly, there are quite a few Belgians and many French people, so there are definitely people who speak your language. If you are seriously considering it, I’d recommend you did it a few months before the end of the year, because it seems our transition period of withdrawal from the EU won’t be extended. Afterwards things will become incredibly hard. To be frank, there are many people, possibly millions of Londoners whose first language is not English, don’t be afraid. You will learn when you get here, and there are many flexible working opportunities if you don’t have a degree or profession. I’m not from London but I am a frequent visitor, I would love to live there if I could. It’s not necessary to live in the city centre, as London is SO connected. Public transport can be very cheap too, in comparison with the rest of the UK. Buses can cost as little as £1.50, if you can’t afford to get on the tube (been there and done that). Honestly, you’d love it. If you have Instagram or Facebook, I’d love to keep in touch and give you more information :). @thenameisedan or Edan Powell :)
Hi Camille It might seem daunting coming to London without having friends or family here to make the transition easy, so perhaps that part of it will be a challenge. As for Brexit, the fact is that from 2021 (probably...maybe a little later), you'll need a visa to work here legally, or to live here for an extended period. To get yourself a work visa in the UK in the future, realistically, having a job offer from a company here is the main requisite. After this job offer, the visa is almost a formality, unless there's a good reason for the UK Home Office to reject your application (e.g. a serious criminal background). This process might sound like an irritation, especially given that EU citizens have been able to forego this requirement for many years, and simply stumble into the UK and find work while they're over here. However, consider how multi-cultural London is - there are many, many London residents who come from outside the EU already (Brazilians, Russians, Colombians, Saudis, Japanese...), and they ALL had to follow a visa application process to exist here legally. Much in the same way that British people have to complete the visa application process to work in most countries in the world (I, myself, had to accept the long process of visa application when I worked in Russia and also New Zealand). So, don't be put off - look at UK job opportunities, and start the process of getting yourself over here....you'll be very welcome, AND there is certainly a Belgian community in London which you could hook up with. Many of your best footballers enjoy living here....some for my team, Tottenham....
Edan Powell thank you for the answer! Well I am in nursing school here in Belgium and I have one year and a half left so I have to wait a few more years
Michael Griggs thank you so much for the answer! It is my big dream but I have to wait bc I am in nursing school here in Belgium but I think I will do something completely different than nursing when I live there

I've been living in NYC since 2012, coming from Sao Paulo , believe me people don't talk or interactin New York either lol. People dont look in the eye, most of the times, that blank face or looking down their phones!! Its all a point of view. So maybe try the subway in Sao Paulo . Good luck
Thinking about it seriously. Live in Missouri, USA
EchoTechsRule1 Illinois.
I fucking hate this state, but I’ve never left.
Just corn... forever.
Also that free heathcare and not being in debt for the rest of my life would be pretty cool too.
who the hell on the NY subway just strikes up a convo with a stranger?? not that different...
Hiya how you doing, ill start a chat with you now if you like haha :)
I have to agree with that. I was in NJ and NYC two months ago for a week, the behaviour on the trains /subway was not really different, no one talked. In fact I thought people were more miserable. But that might have been the people who have to live in New Jersey...
I got the impression the trains where loud and people chatting, fighting, and playing music/singing
I do lol
Soviet Ninja really? bc its super annoying
Thanks for your video yes I am planning to move to London !
thank you for telling us things that would help us if we "Move or Visit" London. it's important to know these things so we don't stick out like a sore thumb.
You're welcome!
I’m so glad you made this! I do plan on moving to London
Great!
I am planning to move to London next year and I find your videos very helpful!!!
Ah awesome! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
i've been looking for a place to move to (from the states) because i absolutely hate the way things are being ran in the US. this video was so informative, thank you so much! my choices are now narrowed down to England and Australia. Thank you for posting
Thanks for watching Josie!
hii!! jess i liked your videos and also this videos are very helpful ..
No native Londoners? Sounds like Silicon Valley. I was born and raised in the valley before it became known as Silicon Valley. Everyone I know was born outside of Silicon Valley. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting someone from Michigan.
Interesting!
There are more of us born and bred Londoners in East London and South London. West and North have a more transient population. So go West and North for the buzz and East and South for cosiness and quaintness :)
Me too. My dad's family actually used to have a ranch in San Jose. Sold it a little too early unfortunately... :)
It's true, I am in immigrant from Wales most of my friends and colleagues are from somewhere else. But my partner is a true Londoner. So I have a London Family.
London is where I want to retire to in about 5 Years. I went 3 years ago and fell in love with the city. I felt like I was home
:)
I haven't been to London and I can feel it's a home ❤ can't wait to go there
Yes I want to move to London. I never been outside the U.S before. I’m also planning a trip to London in the beginning of next year. I want to have some job interviews lined up during my trip, if that’s possible.
Only 2wheelz sammmme
I love your videos.. They are helpful in learning about London.
Thanks Julie!
I am actually live in New Jersey. I am thinking about looking at London to see what life is like there. I can only do that by actually going there. Is there a good time to go?
Don't forget though, the night tube is very much like the night bus, you're all already drunk so anything goes!
Very much enjoying the tips and advice. I do travel to London on occasion, yet still find things on here that are helpful. Am looking to be based in London whilst doing courier work or other security work in or around the city. Looking to live in the area around Kensington High Street Station. Keep up the great work Jess!!! Cheers!!!
That sounds awesome, good luck with making it all happen!! :D
Im moving there in april and this video is just in time... you and your videos r love 😘😘
Awesome!!!
How much is the Midwest rent average?
Unless you decide to move to a different place in the UK and you could visit London every now and again?
Try Cambridge, it is cheaper and more friendly than London, it also more beautiful and less polluted. If you do want to go to London it's only half an hour away by train.
Ppl talk on the tube sometimes, when i went to london i had a great conversation about traveling with a local on the tube
Of course there are some exceptions !
Haha that's true, the tube is such a quiet place, it's unbelievable. I miss London a much, hopefully one day I'll move there! Right now I have moved to Japan, I hope London come next!
Hope you're enjoying Japan Guillermo!! :D
:)
London sounds great
I'm currently in the process of moving to London, have to get my papers for my passport and get a transcript for my job transfer prepared. Hopefully everything goes through by new year
anywhere in or around London would be a lot better than where I am right now. London is paradise!
Lol!
I am moving to London...relativly soon-ish... And the one thing I can never figure out when going to other countries is how to find a doctor to go to when you're not a citizen, even if you live there. (I'm norwegian. Pretty sure I can move anywhere in europe without a visum or anything.)
In norway everyone has to registrer for your own doctor, and you can't really use anyone but that one doctor...unless you change who that is.
At ALL.)
On my mind a lot lately to London or Thailand
i'm applying for a 2 year rotation in the London office of the firm i work at in the US! fingers crossed
Good luck!
I've been waiting for this just in case I have to move there another few decades or so when I retire..lol.. As a person that lives in the country I really hate going out to dinner. It's just way too much work..lol..
Haha. Much easier in London, you can just walk down the street!
I’m a junior in high school in Texas and I’ve had a dream of going to college in London since 7th grade. I feel like my soul was made to exist in London and so I can’t wait to live there but there are many things that stress me about how to move correctly and adjusting and everything, but your videos really help me and I hope u see this❤️
So glad I could help :)
Brendan Hampton have fun our immigration system is trash for foreigners
Oh my god you are a Jake Peralta fan!!! The way you said loaded, I got you there!!!!
My dream is to live as a concept artist in London for some reason, or maybe Brighton. I have a thing for Britain
I live in Brighton and let me tell you it’s amazing
Brighton is nice and super LGBTQ friendly, and Cambridge is beautiful.
it's truth anyone in underground tube don't talk with each other it was weird for me lives in south america
but understood perfect
😂😂😂 The point made about the tube is actually true now that I think about it. Lool usually I just listen to music for the whole journey but yh, ppl hardly have convos and if you do have a convo, everyone else on the tube just looks at you like they are really listening 😂
Lol exactly!
I need to move to London I feel like I would lose a lot of weight. Plus I love diversity!!!
:)
Great information I need to know. Thank You
Welcome!
Hello I’m from india and planning to move to London.. I’m a doctor so would like to know if there are jobs available for junior doctors and how is london as a place to live overall
Khalil Miah thank you
We have a national shortage of doctors so you could probably get a job anywhere in the U.K provided you have qualifications that are accepted here.
I'll be there but not now. I have some problems to solve. Thanks for invitations
Currently planning a move to London to work as a social worker!
Awesome! Good luck!
Love and London thank you!!! What was it like getting a doctor and dentist?
Thanks for tips.
Thanks for watching!
So I am currently in a long distance relationship and my gf live in London so I’m playing on to leave the US to go live there with her but first I need to graduate high school but we will see what the future holds😂
I have 2 more years of college then I’ll become doctor of medicine. I hope I’ll get the job in London since that’s my dream since I was a child. 🙂
Yes, next year
Im going to live in London in 10 years but can't be to prepared
Oh, when I went there one year during Christmas, I was expecting a Dickens Christmas to visiting the South side where another guy yelled to another guy across the street. "Merry Christmas Motherf*****r". I first thought, gee this is like being at home(States)
Science talk time!!!
The reason why the summers and winters are mild is because you have the Gulf Stream current keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Diversity is a good thing! Thanks for the breakdown
It definitely is! Thanks for watching.
I'm planning to move in Londin for job purpose, which is in central based area. But I'm looking for much comfortable livings but quiet cheaper.
Good luck with that ;)
Nobody looks in the eyes in the tube? I found that same thing in Novosibirsk(((( Maybe it's alright for big cities, but I prefer to search someone/something beautiful when I'm in a tube/bus/etc. Anyway. it's interesting story, thank you!
Interesting! Thanks for watching
@@loveandlondon you are welcome)! Cool:-)
Yess I'm thinking about it
I would like to live in London forever ~ Darik Elwan
I loved London's heaters! The pipe things work so well. Is it London thing or whole UK's?
Rachel and Nick radiators? They’re common throughout the UK, though a few newer places have underfloor heating instead (similar idea, but hidden and cheaper to run).
TheRenaissanceman65 Those storage heaters can still be pricey to run compared to gas though - Eco 7 is half price electricity, but gas is a third of the price of regular electricity, so still cheaper. My grandfather has storage heaters, and pays a fortune in electricity - every UK home I’ve lived in has had gas or oil heating. (In TX we had a heat pump, air conditioning/heating in one, which is much cheaper to heat the house with than direct electric heating- those are just starting to catch on in the UK too.)
all over the UK
I want to move to london as a Web Developer
hi! I'm from toronto Canada and I have an opportunity for an intercompany move to our London office. These are super helpful and I'm considering the move heavily. Thanks so much! i have so many questions lol
What are the visas ans passports you needed to get to move, and what paperwork do I need to move
I'm on a spouse visa.
Absolutely do not rent anything without seeing it. #1 rule.
Thank you so much for sharing...Great info
Thanks for watching Rene
Hi Camille
It might seem daunting coming to London without having friends or family here to make the transition easy, so perhaps that part of it will be a challenge.
