It's what he does. You can pick any make and model and trash it and find good reasons to do so, but all in all, like I said, buying any vehicle is a crap shoot. You get a good one or you get a bad one. It's all relative. Take care of it and maintain it on a regular basis and any car should give you good service. Most people don't even change the oil so what can you expect.

Hyundai and Kia has stepped their game up the past few years, there was a dark period of time they was going through, like any other car manufacture. Yep. I'm happy with my 2006 Kia Sportage LX 2.0L FWD Manual transmission. I obtained it 10/2011 with 55,774 miles, and as of 05/07/2021 it has 199,000 miles. My air conditioning did stop working in 08/2018... this was due to debris on the highway that damaged the air conditioning condenser, and caused all the refrigerant to leak out. I repaired the pinhole leak on the condenser, filled it up again, and have had no issues since then.

Just did a trip to Florida and back with no issues. the air conditioner has never been touched and was so cold the wife and kids complained. Bought 2 Rio's for 2 kids and 3 forte's for kids and wife and we love them. Had a dodge caravan and tranny went at 45k, electrical issues traded in for 2007 KIA Sedona and couldn't be happier. Maybe the owner of the sportage used their ac basically all the time and that may not be the case on the celica. I’m sure there are plenty of celica owners who have had to replace their ac compressor at or below 100k miles and plenty of sportage owners who haven’t had to replace it at all

Never had any issues with my old camry which I sold with 257k miles, I have now moved on to a toyota matrix with 148k miles. When a company gives you a 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, that says something positive to me. I remember when Ford and Chrysler went from a 7 yr/ 70,000 mile warranty down to a 3 year/ 36,000 mile warranty, the transmission clutches and A/C systems and other things were made a lot cheaper and broke down more frequently. I worked at a Ford dealership, had a lot of problems with my Ranger. I Bought a Tacoma and never had so much as a rattle or squeak in 75,000 miles when I sold it. Toyota makes a great product. I bought the KIA because it was cheap. I hate the name though and I bet most veterans do as well (KIA, Killed In Action).

It was a factory issue where the crankshaft pulley bolt was not torqued down sufficiently enough.
But I think they addressed that problem with the new models so I would say they have came along way since then .

For the record, I had a 2015 Soul, no warranty claim ever, traded it at 50k for a 2020 Soul, no issues in 2 years of ownership. Wife has 2016 Optima bought new, 1 warranty issue for a emission part, 1 set of tires and a battery, both recently at 65k miles. Daughter bought a used 2013 Optima, no issues, a battery and a set of tires and my Mom bought a 2013 Forte with 90k miles no issues since buying last year. I used to write service at Toyota and they do use timing chains for interference engines and belts for non-interference engines, a policy all automakers should have, but they have had issues w frame rust on the trucks and oil leaks on the older avalons. Nobody's perfect.
