    Great video! Most of all I appreciate the introspection, too many of the cruising sailors posting videos neglect to reflect on their experience. All your videos have been exceptional. Thanks.

    Hey,...Dutch pancakes, well i guess they belong to the world by now. You know, they are nice with good ham and young Gouda ⬅(Dutch cheese) too with a topping of honey mustered saus.
    Great vid 👍.

      These are not Dutch pancakes, they are Swedish style.

    It's great that you're checking your course on paper to backup your electronics. Bet most cruisers don't bother, just trusting their chartplotter and their own eyes.

    • @RANSailing
      @RANSailing  8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      We really like our big paper chart of the north Atlantic and agree that it's a great backup!

    • @RealLuckless
      @RealLuckless 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I'm a real tech junkie, but I can't imagine NOT producing a physical chart and log as you go. Not only is it a sensible backup in case of critical failure (What do people think they'll do if something fries all their electronics?) but you could do it on nice acid free archival papers, and store them as a collection, or hang them on the wall of your study if you settle into a house on land somewhere.

    • @jimmyz688
      @jimmyz688 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      BeachBow paper never lies in the hands of a competent sailor....doesn't need batteries or electricity. It should be every sailors first choice not a backup for modern devices. A critical skill that is need especially needed on long passages. Live, love and use old school navigation.

    Wonderful video! I've never seen the depiction of a more placid and peaceful 2-person crossing. You both seem to handle your watch shifts effortlessly while remaining well and in good spirits. Most people seem to limp across the finish line, but you two sprinted gracefully. Not sure how you manage it, but it's lovely to behold and very encouraging. Fair winds, beautiful friends! :-)

    • @RANSailing
      @RANSailing  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! :) I know the feeling and I can also recall to that while being on land. Out to sea it's just scary! Because if the lightning strikes the boat a lot of things will most probably break. Cheers

    An easy way to know if the thunder-stone is coming towards you, and this is assuming you can heard the thunders, is to count the time between the time you see the lightning and heard the thunder. Longer time will imply the storm is going away from you, and shorter time that the storm is approaching.

Still have the 6 pancake pan from Sweden my grandmother used. I'm sure the mix is the same. We'll hopefully you guys have some Glogg and a bottle of Akvavit on board. Always a great video. Thanks guys. Just a tip. A few times in your videos, I noticed both of you using your left hand holding onto the lens from top while filming. Try holding the lens from down. It is easier to balance and stabilize the camera when the lens is resting in your palm than holding it from top. Also if it is possible, rest your left elbow on your body. Take care.

    12:30 - if you are in a emotionally challenging situation a second can be like an hour, if you are up to daily routines time flies, as there is less emotional involvement; this is what is usually referred to as subjective time as opposed to objective time. Fair winds to you :)

    Its nice to see your film. We did the crossing 2 weeks later and had 12 days wind up to 40 kn the hole time. not only in the Squalls. how different the tradewindpassage could be.

    Best video I've seen yet of an ocean crossing. Has deserved repeat viewings. Thanks for reflecting on what it is like to be at sea. Question: What is your night watch schedule? Two hour shifts?

    Were you able to get a hold of Rick Moore and figure out a yard to haul out at?

    Thanks for sharing another great video of your adventure, I've really been waiting to see your ocean crossing after hearing you had made port.
    you mentioned in another comment about your generator output, and I was wondering if you have a feel for how it affects both boat handling and speed. I would think it would as a drouge and help steady the boat, but might slow it down a bit.

      The towing generator was great and gave us around 1 amp/knot of speed. It didn't slow down the boat a lot, only around 0,2 knots. We didn't notice that it steady the boat, the boat was moving as normal. Happy new year!

    Congratulations on your crossing! It's a
    Super achievement for you both as a team. Please tell what sailing tactics you did during the squalls.

      Thank you! When we could see the clouds on the horizon and that they were coming closer we reefed both sails and then we stood stand by to see how the wind would shift and if we needed to go out and hand steer.
