Playing and reviewing the Thomann TRA-31B plastic alto recorder.
With it’s low price point, this recorder seems to be aimed at people who are new to playing the recorder, so I’m giving my thoughts as a beginner :)

That is incredible quality for such a low price, I'm amazed! My yamaha alto costs about 3 times that, and it doesn't behave as it should. That Thomann sounds great. But I wonder how it handles condensation. My Yamaha clogs really easily and is a bit of a pain for that, despite warming up the head joint before playing. Also you've only been playing for 6 months? 😮. I've been playing on and off since 2016 and I can't get that far in Doen Daphne
I’m amazed too, I love this recorder, and use it every day, very good for the price. I find it doesn’t suffer too badly at all from condensation, much less then some of my other recorders. Though I suppose that might vary by player! Have you tried putting a few drops of washing up liquid mixed with a little water in the wind way of your Yamaha? I found it really helped with some of my clog-prone plastic recorders!
@@ClaythorpeMusic yea funnily enough I did that the other day, on both the yamaha alto and the Aulos tenor. Didn't seem to make much difference to the Yamaha, which has a very narrow, long curved windway
@@LarryShone hmm, I’m thinking of trying a Yamaha alto next, I wonder if I’ll have the same problem.
@@ClaythorpeMusic depending on your air stream I would say a big windway would be less inclined to clog. The Yamaha is a pain for it
@@LarryShone I have a Yamaha soprano, I think from the very cheapest range they make. It is an utter pain for clogging and so I’ve pretty much given up on it. I was hoping their slightly more expensive ranges were better!
I bought the Yamaha Alto recorder at Thomann and I receive him yesterday.
After playing one or two minutes it became unplayable. Especially the low sounds.
Have you ever heard about similar cases.

can u say something about the transpositon between C recorders and F recorders? I am learning to play both Alto and Soprano recorders... i currently using Soprano fingerings to Alto recorders, still can play the music, but in different keys.
I got started on the alto pretty quickly after beginning soprano. I learnt the different notes/fingerings for both so I can play in the key of the music… but there’s no problem just using soprano fingerings on alto if you’re playing on your own with no backing music… have you seen Sarah’s Team Recorder video on this? She explains better than I can!

Can someone help me please? I've got the same reorder, but I'm only able to get one sound out, no matter how many holes I cover with my fingers, or how I blow in it. I'm not a musician, and I got the recorder as an amusement for my child, but I had tried other instruments in my life, and profane as I am, I could get different sounds out. Is my instrument defect, or is there a trick I'm missing? I would like to be able to show my child how to get different sounds out, in order to be able to play around with it.
Lift your fingers off the holes for different sounds

Try other Alto recorders:-) I would like to try the Zen On.

@@ClaythorpeMusic I have 2 soprano Recorders.
1 is the Ecodear and 1 is a Zen On. Both are extremely different instruments 😅
The Yamaha Ecodeae has a sweet and pure sound (that's a pro) but there is lack of dynamic and tend to be shy (the con)
The Zen On has a louder sound and it sounds a little bit reedy but the instrument has more dynamics. The high notes are just a little bit harder to play but they are more powerful compared to the Yamaha Eco.
@@535Salomon the trouble with plastic recorders being relatively cheap instruments is it’s just too tempting to try them all! 😅 I think it is worth trying out a good few, it’s incredible how different they can be, isn’t it?
