    Hello! I'm currently teaching myself, using a Haka soprano and Aldo Bova's Method. I really enjoy the sound from the Aulos. I also have the Yamaha Eco but it's much more plastic-sounding.
    Thank you for this comparison; I think I'll look into the Robin for my young children, when they're ready to learn ☺️. Cheers!

      Hi! I watch Aldo’s videos too, they’re so helpful, aren’t they! The more I play the Haka, the more I like it. Almost can’t believe it’s plastic, at times. Getting started on the Robin was great, though, and I still pick it up most days. I’m sure your children would love it, when they’re ready 🙂

    Thanks for your review! Robin is my second recorder. The first was the Yamaha YRS-23. But she often had phony notes! I newby musicant. The neighbors already hate me.

    I’ve finally decided to get serious about the Recorder. I have a $10. white Yamaha. I just ordered a Dream soprano. A plastic Aulos Tenor is probably next on my list. Thanks! Happy holidays p! 🌞🎅🏻🎄🎉🎉🎉🎄

  • @luckybarrel7829

    They have a Robin version for the tenor as well which is the cheapest (ignoring Thomann). Here cause I was wondering how it holds up to the better version. I guess it makes sense to go for the better version...

    Great review thanks. I have the Alto 709BW and it's great. I have a bit of a job hitting the low F especially if going from a high note, but I think that is more me than the recorder as I am a beginner. Looking forward to getting into it again, paused my playing as I have a mouth ulcer. Loved your art video of handel super impressive patience and skill. Glad to have found your channel. All the best !

      Thank you for the kind comments! I’m learning a piece for alto that has one single low F lurking amongst a load of high notes… and I never hit it. You are not alone, haha! Hope you can get back to recorder-ing soon!

    I already have an Aulos soprano, the very cheap 303E, but I bought a Haka a while ago to see if there was much difference, and I couldn't detect much of a difference to be honest. The Haka certainly looks nicer than my all black 303 but I don't think there's that much of a difference sound wise to warrant paying over 3 times what I paid for the 303. And as I needed the money and didn't need two sopranos I sold the Haka and kept the 303. (I rarely play soprano anyway, preferring alto and tenor)
    I would be interested in trying out a Haka alto though

  • @veriorama

    I bought recently my first alto recorder (aulos 509 b symphony) and I find the sound strange. I am used to soprano recorder and the notes in mid range like (C, D, E) are not clear. I cannot explain it but I dont like the sound. I hope that it has to do with my technique and not with the recorder. Also I am trying to find information about the difference in technique between soprano and alto but I can't find something useful.

    • @ClaythorpeMusic
      @ClaythorpeMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what you mean! Although I’d heard lots of alto being played on the Internet, when I got my own I was surprised by the sound; I think to start with I wasn’t quite giving enough air, so it sounded a bit off. Kind of a bit ‘despondent’ when compared to the soprano, is the only way I can think to describe it. I’m now either used to hearing it, or a bit better at playing it, I’m not sure! I know a lot of people swear by Aulos’ symphony range, so hopefully it isn’t a problem with your recorder. I wish I could recommend a book or method, but I haven’t tried any for alto. Good luck with it!

      I don't wish to be discouraging, but it's most probably a matter of technique. I have some solid musical experience and first started goofing around with recorder (soprano) years ago. Then I got curious and got an alto and a sopranino, then a tenor (keyed).
      The physical fingering is a bit different for each one. I had a wee bit of difficulty with the alto at first, but after a week, I was fine.
      When it isn't right, check your thumb first (see Sarah Jefferies YT vids [Team Recorder] for fingering technique), then your fingers: lift the 'lowest' first and ensure a proper seal. You can also 'come down' from the upper positions, one by one.
      Make sure it's assembled correctly. Make sure the lowest hole's position suits you.
      And don't feel bad, I'm still working on tenor. I'm a lot better than six months ago, but I won't be satisfied until I'm 100.00% consistent every single time.

    • @ClaythorpeMusic
      @ClaythorpeMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JESL_TheOnlyOne it’s not discouraging, we’re all after improving our technique!
      I know it’s hard to battle against the inner perfectionist, but I’d forget aiming for 100% accuracy every time… that’s what robots are for 😉

    Without the wood grain finish, the Haka is exactly the same price as the Robin. At least here in Germany: 16,90€.

    • @ClaythorpeMusic
      @ClaythorpeMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bridgette, sorry it took me so long to reply! I think I’m right in saying the 703w has the wood effect finish, whereas the 703b is regular smooth plastic. Mine is the wood grain effect. I think it looks pretty good and is a bit easier to grip than smooth plastic 🙂

    I love the Aulos Haka More than Yamaha simply because the windway on the Aulos is larger and the hole locations feel more natural to hold. Abandon the Yamaha ever since XD
