You always have great teams and I can honestly say it's been an honor to stand shoulder to shoulder with our neighbor 8 miles away and represent college basketball. Sad day coming to see you retire. As a Duke basketball and Coach K fan, I can say the same about the North Carolina basketball program. Thank You and much respect. Love the Duke/NC games. Best college basketball rivalry.

I bleed Carolina blue but this is awesome. Coach K is not only a good coach but a great example for his players and everyone else. Mad respect for him and all of his accomplishments.

I'm a Chicago Polish person I fully understand a person like Mike. Anybody can say anything about Mike but I know one thing he was raised to be a good person.
I have forever been a Tar Heel and will forever be a Tar Heel. But I must say, Coach K‘s speech was brilliant. His success clearly is no accident. The way he rallied around the Carolina family at Dean Smith‘s passing is a testament to the class act that he is.

Let’s not get too crazy here. Bob Knight is easily the greatest coach in basketball history and arguably the greatest teacher in all of sports history. You even heard Coach K acknowledge The Coach as teaching him basically everything he ever learned about basketball and coaching. Knight completely changed the game. And the ass hat who said nobody compare to Wooden. Well, Coach Knight and Coach K did it without cheating. Especially Knight who also graduated almost every player that ever played for him. Wooden was a good Coach and teacher but he doesn’t belong in the conversation with the Knights and K’s and Dean Smiths. These men held college basketball to its pinnacle. Wooden turned a blind eye to the darkness at the cost of winning. Forgive him Lord…for he not know what he speaketh.

This post hasn’t aged well has it. The NBA is now drenched with Duke players.
Every spouse should feel that way about their spouse("partner"), that's what marriage is about, love, sacrifice, commitment .... so many people think it's a flavor of the month kind of deal,,,,move on to another, nope,,,,it's taking those vows seriously and loving and honoring that person who stood with you and exchanged those vows! As I type this, these two are about to celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary.....my parents made it to 46, but my Dad passed at age 71,,,,,They would be celebrating their 70th this year....they had that same type of love and commitment and passed it on to their five children, as I know Mike and Mickie have done for their three children!

I was a grad student at Duke 80-83 , Coach K’s first three years and you don’t know the half of it. Jim Valvano was hired at NC State in 1980 too. Valvano took Norm Sloan’s recruits and won a National Championship in 83. Coach K’s Duke team lost that year by 30 points in a rout by Ralph Sampson’s Virginia in the first round of the ACC tournament. I saw three solid years of Coach K hating . I was there in 80-81 when the two top Duke players, Gene Banks and Kenny Dennard, both Bill Foster recruits, treated Coach K with disdain that whole year.

Always despise at first K. Made my Tarheels lose but also provided great games. Was no Dean Smith as I watch as a kid in the 80's 90's. But man hes got my respect as much as Dean Smith as I got older.

Singler and crew were upper class men (McDonald's All-Americans). So was Battier and crew. He's a top five coach for sure, but I'd still take Wooden and Dean Smith over him.
As much as I couldn't stand watching Coach K slapping the floor on defense and the annoying players he recruits, you cannot argue with his success (second only to Wooden really) and that he is a great guy; it doesn't seem like an act and it appears to be genuine.
Lost his last home game.

Riveting speech when it was good, but egomaniacal all the way. He HAD to talk as much of himself and press politics as much as speak about Coach K. However, when he talked about Coach K, it was great.

I've thought for two decades that Coach K is not only a phenomenal coach but also a phenomenal person. He's all about personal integrity, dignity, code of ethics, etc. etc. But what convinces me that he is full of shit is that he has been making tens if not over a hundred million dollars off the backs of talented basketball players who chose to play for him at Duke. Few of them went on to play in the NBA and made some money, but the vast majority of his players ended their basketball career at Duke. If Coach K is the man that everybody says he is, a man of honor, then he should take 20% of all the money he's earned at Duke and he should distribute that money among his players who never made it to the NBA. They worked their asses off so that HE could continue to coach at Duke and keep getting his contract renewed, with more zeros added each time. Don't talk to me about these players getting a free education at a great university. They were there to play basketball. Coach K should be ashamed of himself for pocketing all them millions while his slaves worked for no compensation (if you call free tuition and room and board when you're bringing in a shit load of money to your school, you're just too damn naive).
The same goes for Nick Saban, Rick Pitino, Jim Harbaugh, Urban Meyer, or any other big time college football/basketball coach.
