I love Nickelback. I have seen them live twice and the concerts are superb. I think you are right about the podcast. All those that 'hate 'them are just sheep and follow the trend. Love Mike Portnoy's attitude and sound like a fun guy to be around.
Certainly in Canada, and I think also in the US, the hate stems from them being massively overplayed on radio and tv. There was a period of about a decade where you could not turn on a radio for 15 mins without hearing a Nickleback song. They would drop a new song or album, it would be a huge success, but 6 months later everyone was so sick of hearing it because it was played all day.
That’s great to know, thank you! Obviously I couldn’t know any of that. Let me say, we get reggaeton and trap music here in Italy 😫 I WISH we had Nickelback on the radio!
Same here in the UK. We had a very popular channel similar to old MTV called Kerrang! Literally every other video was nickleback...IE Devil driver, nickleback, Disturbed, nickleback etc. It was so overplayed and saturated the band
Less is more when you want to be liked by a bigger range of fans, and be easily remembered because of the simplicity, giving more money. Overplaying gives more joy, space for creativety, a bigger experience overall for the player and the listener, but requires a kind of atention that few are willing to give these fast and consumable days.
Thank for your comment! I understand your point but I disagree with that. I personally really enjoy just playing pocket, way more than using all my chops. Take for instance a drummer like Steve Jordan. He is amazing and will make people dance. It’s not just about money or being mainstream.
@@AlessandroSpenga I also disagree also, to a point. As you pointed out the 'pocket.' Any good musician can ride in the pocket, the great ones show you what they can do in it. They will make people dance.
Nickelback played the Spider-Man anthem for an early big movie. Fan’s insisted they play it on tour, although they were not licensed to and couldn’t without getting sued, which to the U.S. fans spells sell-out, for some reason. Canada just despised them because Chad married Avril Lavigne, mainly.
You may not agree but I always felt that the Nickelback hate came from the overproduced (for the time) super safe sound which was a bit absurd for an alternative rock band in 2002, right in the middle of the nu metal era. It was an easy target. Also, the songs sounded all the same, very formulaic. Type Nickelback doesn't change on YT ;)
Well, I actually agree with that 🤘 It definitely is a “radio ready” sound and I understand that may justify most of the hate they get. Classic you love them or you hate them thing!
No disrespect to Daniel Adair, But Portnoy's double base version give this song new life and energy. That's what so great about music, it's all interchangeable all you need is the right formula to make it better. Portnoy's took a Nascar race car & turn it into an F1 race car.
Detractors argue that whenever the band steps into a recording studio, their output is purely commercial, lacking genuine artistic depth. They claim that Nickelback consistently fails to produce well-crafted songs
For me, what made Nickleback hard to like is that they had a phase where they wrote a lot of songs about how famous they were. Or at least they had several hits about it, i heard a lot. To me, that just made them pompous, and I've never liked that kind of personality. I didnt even know Nickleback hate was a thing until after i already disliked them. Then i spent a while assuming it was due to that. Still not really sure what it is, but its likely a collection of things. Their music is fine, not exactly my style, but fine. I think their demeanor is what did it.

Best drummer in the world.
Mike Portnoy seems to be a really cool dude to hang around with.
Great video, man 🤘Subscribed.
Thank you so much man! 💪
It’s the whole package with Mike. He’s a great drummer and just a fucking cool dude

Thanks for your comment! Hopefully I’ll get to go to one of their shows soon 🤘
I genuinely just don't like their songs and butt rock in general. I couldn't care less about trends.

Great reaction, Alessandro! Greetings from Vancouver Island.
Thank you 🙏
Nickleback made rock radio unenjoyable for 6 years.
I wish we had nickelback on the radio in Italy instead of trap music.
I know some of the "hate" for Nickelback came from overplay on the radio and many felt their songs all sounded the same, that there was no creativity.
More people said the same. That makes sense! Thanks for your comment ✌️
Fuck me that Spider-Man song. Every other song played was that
We all have our preferences of course, but in this instance I'm totally on Mike's side of the fence :)
So so good!!
Listening to a song versus HEARING it are 2 totally different things.
what do you mean with that?
Nickelback are one of the best bands I've ever seen they are up there with def leppard

“Hero”, loved that song! Interesting, thank you for your comment ✌️

NASCAR fans will hate you for saying that 🤣
Read Nickelback lyrics and you will quickly understand why they are so hated
People say it’s due to radio streams

So, I’m happy I finally have a clear understanding of the reasons!

damn... you skipped through the first take!!!! WHYYYYYYYYY
I understand people don’t like that editing style, so I changed it for my other reaction videos 🙌
Mike kinda shows why people hate on Nickleback. They are almost there but just too bland. Tbf not all drummers are Mike. Lol
too much cuts, unwatchable
Thanks for your feedback
Nickelback like meh. I think they ok but he pushed the song and bumped it up.
Original video way too cutted, even during the performance. It's a nope for me, sorry.
Thanks for the feedback. Will try less edited reactions 👌
