- This weekend at the Strongsville show was an absolutely amazing experience. So many amazing friends, collectors, and laughs. I spend more money at this card show than at any show I've ever attended. I bought two amazing goal cards, including a pre war hall of famer. I came home with a slew of amazing cards, but even better memories. So many terrific friendships were strengthened in a weekend of fun times, laughs, meals, and experiences. I'm lucky to have met this amazing group of collectors, and was honored by the MidLife Community Members that came up and introduced themselves. I absolutely can't wait until next year's Strongsville show, because I will be back!!

There’s so much to say I don’t even know where to begin. So I’ll keep it short. Amazing amazing amazing pick ups. Holy cow! (insert Phil Rizzuto voice). Love the 73’s too. Money can always be replaced… But finding cards and deals like these… It’s a no-brainer. I would’ve sold my soul😂😂😂

I have bought cards from Ash multiple times at the chantilly and philly show.. he always is the best vintage table at the shows and to be honest overwhelmes me at the number of cool cards he has…many VERY expesnive cards tho I cannot touch...
Ash is an INCREDIBLY awesome guy. I got to spend a good amount of time talking to him in person, and my opinion of him went through the roof.

Same. Which is why I like to buy cards that are not graded when I can. But, this may be an East Coast thing. Lol.
Honestly.... I brought that up on the 4 collectors last night about the amount of ungraded cards on the west coast compared to the east coast. I'd be more willing to buy raw on the east coast.
Thank you for sharing your experience at this card show!!! The one thing that came through very clear from your video is that it is so important to buy the card and not the grade. Also, collecting vintage cards is very different from modern. I think all of your purchases were, exceptionally cool!
I haven’t been to Sports Card show in a very, very long time. On the one hand, it would be fun to go to one. On the other, I don’t feel like I have the budget that I saw you and others working with this in the video. Even though you had some great pick ups, seem to me that the best part of the experience for you was just hanging out with the other people you knew, your hobby friends. Do you agree?

The funniest thing about that 1973 original artwork, is that it talks about Nettles' name being spelled wrong, while on the left side, it actually spells Gerry Moses' first name wrong "Jerry".
Yep. I noticed that too. It's actually being framed as we speak.

As a die hard REDSKINS fan since the early 80s, I love the Baugh pickups. After making my money in 2020/21, id love to add one or 2 to my PC just haven’t been able to close a deal at Chantilly yet.
Another note, I have a special connection to the 73 Topps set. It’s my birth year.

So happy you had a great time, and return with solid memories! I'm saying it now, do some deep dives on vintage football please! It might absolutely be a sweet spot in the hobby!

A truly incredible weekend.
I don't care if some people will disagree with me, but the SGC holders ARE THE BEST for vintage cards. That Spahn looks amazing. I just will no longer buy any card in a PSA holder unless I get a great deal. But even then I'll send it to SGC to get it re-slabbed.
Hard to disagree with you. The older the card, the better they look in SGC slabs in my eyes.

One of my favorite sets (and mega rare) that you never see at these shows is the 1st Fleer Football In Action set from 1976. Completely forgotten. I wouldn't trade for anything along with the 1980s USFL sets. The holy Grail is the 65 Namath. Hard to obtain even as a teen in the 80s.
The 65 Namath is a big card.
I have the 4 1996 Topps football sets that have the Joe Namath replica in each box and look like little cereal boxes. The 76 Fleer In Action set is my favorite due to it's rareness. They're actually stickers. The sets ran from 1976 to 1988. I should do a video on the history. The cards actually featured the logos on the helmets and the 77 set has the Payton. As a teen I absolutely loved those boxed USFL sets too.

I will be completely honest that I have been aware of your channel for a bit now but have just recently subscribed and started watching… I wish I started watching sooner! This footage and recap was so awesome to watch and I was seriously emotionally invested in the negotiations! So many great pickups. The vintage baseball additions just kept getting better and you grabbed some tremendous eye appeal cards. Vintage football is so underrated. Those Baugh cards are just beautiful. The Topps original art is so cool and picking up the cardboard counterparts was perfect! Well done Graig!

I prefer color and registration before centering too, not that there's anything wrong with a well centered card. My concern however, is when the color seems to be too good to be true. PSA and SGC doesn't always catch that certain pre-war and vintage cards were added in color. Won't know definitely for at least another 10 years. I guess when there is a wax stain on the back, it was less likely to have been altered? Unless it was just a shoddy job. I really do think back of card is under appreciated for reason you mentioned too, it has stats and unique and interesting facts. But, that was a great story with the '73 art work. Those kind of gifts you'll always be able to appreciate. +
Good points and well stated. I picked up a couple of cards with Wax this weekend...and I'm almost at the point where I prefer it. Proves they weren't altered and also brings the grade down and makes it more affordable.

Amazing pickups, but can’t believe you didn’t come home with your 54 Banks card. I did notice a lot of SGC slabs, my personal favorite.
I'd say SGC vs PSA was 2 to 1 at the show. Much more SGC.

There was one dealer that had a whole case of vintage boxing. Other than him, I didn't see a ton.
The Strongsville card show seems like it was heaven on earth. That Spahn, Hornsby, Baugh and Baugh are all killers… but that Graig/Craig art is the gift of a lifetime. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride!!!

It's hilarious that as you're talking about the misspelling ("misspelling" itself is an often misspelled word, but I digress) of Nettles' name, the original cartoon art for Gerry Moses' card has HIS name misspelled with a "J"!!!!!!! (Someone in the art department clearly fixed it later.)

Graig, no way, my Spahn is the exact REA comp you used that’s a little off centered! That dude was trashing my card to get more out of you. Haha! You did great. I still love mine, and yours is better and for $625 is a great deal. You could say I helped you bring the price down! great pickup. Also, a note about Yuengling Mike got - it is the same brewery that still brews beer today in PA, but they couldn’t in the 20s because of prohibition , so they made ice cream to stay in business.
Yours helped me so much!! You got a killer deal!!! Then, I was able to keep talking about how much more I was spending than that. The dealer was trashing it because he was negotiating. It's a sweet card. When he pulled up your comp, it saved me $100 at least.

Hi Graig have a question for u and the mid life community. If u r thinking of buying an altered authentic card what kind of grade do u put on it for the value? Do u look at the card and if it looks like a 2 do u downgrade it one # bc it is altered or how would u go about pricing an altered cars? I had the chance to buy an authentic altered 33 goudey hack Wilson but didn't pull the trigger bc the dealer wanted 25 more than I was willing to pay. The Strongsville show was great!! I love the venue change this year since there was more room and better lighting. Cutter was great to work with, negotiating with a 14 year old for my grail card was definitely an experience!! Fun times @ Strongsville 2024!! Love your content keep it up!!

I agree vintage football is undervalued… I have a hand ful of sammy baugh cards.. i mean SLINGIN sammy baugh… I think his cards are very under valued and continue to pick up a couple each year at a show when I see a nice version…. just bought one at the chantill show a month or so ago...

Can I ask what they settled on for that 15K ruth card ? You did not say so not sure if you r trying to not say it.. but I’d love to know what they settled on for a 15k card… its a more rare price to negotiate…. very high priced card...
Petty's comment below mentioned the plan. I'll just say that we're going to talk about that story in an upcoming video. Out of respect for Mr. Petty, I didn't want to share his business and his negotiation too closely. I just wanted to share the process so people could enjoy it. But...to be continued.
What is registration?
Registration is the "focus" of the card. Imagine seeing two photographs side by side. One is perfectly in focus and the other is a little fuzzy. The one in perfect focus is more enjoyable to view.
@@MidLifeCards Yeah, that's a good way to put it. Dylan often says how vintage cards are off centered. Which may be true. But, when you think about it. There's a lot of vintage cards that, I would say are out of focus as well. I believe it was or used to be one of PSA's qualifiers on their labels. Not sure if they still do. I know SGC doesn't though, so, I wonder if that's a reason some people elect for SGC as well. They don't have any qualifiers. Not even for marks and miscuts.
