I have done some research in this topic, so this may be of interested to you: CPM is often influenced by what type of audience is watching your videos. As an ESL channel, my guess is you may be getting lower CPM because many of your viewers are outside North America and advertisers pay less for those audiences. However, it seems like you have a large and supportive following. So, perhaps TH-cam ad revenue could just be the "icing on the cake" and you could look at using your channel to promote other sources of revenue like 1-on-1 coaching, books, classes, or affiliate links. Just some ideas...best of luck!
Oh my goodness! Thanks for this video!!! I love seeing other creators in my niche (and what it might look like being monetized). For me, it is the watch hours too that is holding me back. I hope to be monetized by 10k subs. (I'm currently at 4.6k).
I'm not monetized and don't plan to become monetized. But I found this video to be incredibly helpful and insightful! I've done research on how much money TH-camrs make, and it's hard to get clear answers. This was helpful. I would really like to see another video in a few months. I think each video needs to be thought of as an investment, not an hourly job. Sure, you've made pennies so far off those two videos, but they also aren't done paying you. And more views on a new, viral video will equal more views on your older videos. The only piece of advice I have from my own experience is that audience engagement is key. Find ways to get people to comment and share. Doing short English quizzes and responding to comments seem obvious to me. Finding a fresh way to ask people to like, comment or share is good. And you never know if some billionaire who needs English gets something out of your videos, so I wouldn't be afraid to tactfully ask. I supported a Russian teacher on TH-cam before, because I felt obligated after how much her videos helped me in my language journey.

I watched this video when it was 7 days old. TH-cam presented advertisements before, during, and after it. The ads were targeted (i.e. in my native language) and their duration ranged between 6 and 15 seconds. The mid-roll ones appeared at seemingly random (?!) points of the video and there were a lot of them, I lost count at 5. However, I kept watching till the end, because the content was captivating, as Evelyn's videos always are, and I wanted to support her work the best I can. 👍
I know that I am super late to this video. However, if anyone else is watching this and going through something similar, a possible reason for the low RPM is the Shorts. Shorts brings in a lot of subscribers but they are short-form viewers. They usually don't watch the videos all the way through and that can negatively affect your RMP.

I stopped to do these videos, and now I´m talking about Holistic Therapies. Hi Evelyn. I think certain topics like education and recreation (like chess in my channel) get low rpms compared to tech and finance. The only solution is to scale into the hundreds of thousands of views. It’s difficult but wish you the best!

Gratz. I got your channel in my recommendations only recently. I believe this is because I am signed on couple of English language channels. I think you should just keep doing videos and TH-cam will advertise your channel more. There are great channels on TH-cam about British English "English with Lucy" and "English with Greg". But i couldn't find any good channels with American English. I know there is some difference between them in vocabulary and how tenses are used. Especially present perfect tense. I want to ask you to make a video about that. And try to explain all cases and reasons why you use this tense but not the other. I used to play games on my PC in English since my childhood. Recently i heard this phrase in one game : I've been looking. It's just not here. The man who said that was searching for some thing with his buddy. I've read several times rules explaining tenses. But I can't understand them completely. This example was totally unexpected for me. Sorry for any mistakes i made in this message :)
Ah I think the issue is your niche in particular. Your RPM is only $1.48 (for that one video anyways but I can image your other videos are similar.) Thats pretty low, and the location of your audience also affects that. If your audience is primarily in these three countries: US, UK or Canada-advertisers will pay more for ads to be placed on your videos. My RPM is currently around the $5 mark. With your niche and the work you do, you deserve way more! Thank you for your work!
I am not monetized, and I have no plans to monetize my channel. As a non-native English teacher, my channel is small and primarily intended for fun and educational purposes. The ESL community is saturated with teachers, so I recommend engaging with other TH-camrs and exploring a niche, such as writing, which has not yet become oversaturated.

So, there are two thoughts of mine. 1) I think it would be a little easier to absorb the information if you used a Microphone. The words are clear but there is some sort of echo. 2) You have a lot of interesting playlists and if you asked viewers to visit your playlists in every video, who knows, maybe people would watch the play list from the beginning to end. At list it works with my channel. In every video in the beginning I tell that I structure all the info into playlists to make it easier for watchers to learn a particular topic from the easiest things to more complex, and give them advice to jump into the playlist and watch it from the biginning to the end. If it works, your watch time will increase. Anyway, I hope that your great work will be properly rewarded! Thanks

I've been on YT for a couple of years, and it's been much harder to make money and grow than I had imagined it would be, I guess because there are just so many English channels out there already.

Your earnings from youtube change depending on your source of income. For instance the watch page ads has higher % than shorts feed ads and supers etc. And I agree with you that those companies including youtube get more than the creator.
Did you include 9 ad breaks in a 9-minute video? From a viewer’s perspective, it can be a bit challenging to watch. I would suggest reducing the frequency of ads, especially the mid-roll ones, as they might affect your overall watch time.

Love your videos. What you could do in your future videos moving forward is to give out more accurate information on what is considered to be correct usage and pronunciation for native speakers in any English-speaking countries, thus trying to mitigate the damage done by some of those non native English "teachers" on their TH-cam or social media channels (without showing their names of course). In this way, you would be doing a favor to learners to help improve and learn correct English.

A course where we focus more on interaction, online classes with you as teacher. If it becomes a reality, rest assured that I would pay for it.
As a new TH-camr, who have friends that are larger TH-camrs, the biggest problem that you have is you just have an audience who’s not interested in your content. 10,000 subscribers should have EASILY allowed you to get the 4000 watch hours. But it seems you have more subscribers than people who are actually watching your content. There are people with only 2500 subs making almost 1,000 per month from their videos. So it’s not YT compensation that’s the issue. Based on the numbers, you’re getting about 25% which is not a shabby commission. Other SM sites pay much less. You should look through your data and figure out what videos people are watching and what videos have the lowest views and try to understand why and then make more content that matches with people really want to see. I just started my channel a couple of months ago and I’m literally already over 50 watch hours with just 70 subscribers. I’d definitely look into what you can do differently to get people to engage with your videos. Right now it sounds like most are ghost subs. Maybe go live and try to engage them.
Start courses that students can sign up and pay for. It has to be both something you enjoy and are good at, and it has to be useful for students. It also will take a ridiculous amount of time and effort, and it might not be for you. That's what i can say. That's wha people i've followed since they started out ended up doing.
1. do not look at how much money you're making. 2. create quality content. 3. be consistent. 4. talk about trending topics. 5. look at your earnings a year from now, good luck!
Lots of views are usually from "How to videos " that most people watch in order to learn how to do stuff like changing their car's engine oil or reviews on the best product available. If you speak more than one language then you can leverage that language tutorial from A to B.
