I also did a winter romance read-athon this December. Mine wasn't the most successful either, but it was okay.
"Sweet on You" sounds so similar to the book I just finished called "Jack & Frost Bake-Off." This one takes place on a reality TV, but similar vibes for sure.

Happy holidays. My favorite Christmas book is Let it Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, & Lauren Myracle. It’s YA, and really sweet. It’s actually 3 stories in 1 that come together in the end 😊
I also hated "One Day in December." Ugh.

I didn't end up reading any holiday romances this year, but one I enjoyed last year was A Cat Café Christmas by Codi Gary. It was just an easy, cute read, which is basically the only criteria I have for holiday romances 😂

Merry Christmas Jesse - I can rec Kiss Her Once For Me for a Christmas romance I loved it. It does hget a little bit into some possible cheating territory but it didn't bother me based on the conceit of the book (and I'm usually very anti cheating)

Happy Holidays! I liked How to Lose a Guy Before Christmas by AJ Pine and The Plight Before Christmas by Kate Stewart.
One day in December is the only book in this video I have read and I remember within the 25% I was obsessed and I thought it would be a new favourite. The 75% after really fell off for me and I just felt like it was too dragged out at that point that I remember when the characters finally got together in the end I was left so unsatisfied. I also just got super annoyed with them. If you’re looking for a holiday romance to read next year, I’d definitely recommend A Little Magic by Lindsey Lanza. It’s not only my favourite holiday romance I read this year but in general one of my favourite books of the year. It’s a bit more of an emotional read but that’s what I liked about it.

My favourit christmas romance book will probably always be "Dash & Lily's Book of Dares" by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. I haven't read it in a while... However, when I first read this book I really loved it (despite the cringe and cliche parts).

You should read For The Love of Hot Cocoa. It’s a cozy fantasy romance. I ate it up. It was so cute! I loved what I read. It makes you want a hot cocoa a sweet treat. It’s funny and the romance is light and sweet. I hope you consider reading it.
One Day In December is a book where it isn't set only in December.

Totally agree with you about One Day in December. I hated it for the romanticization you talked about. I couldn’t root for them.

I just read A Cat Cafe Christmas and it doesn’t even have any Christmas elements until like 70% of the way through and I was like um?? I was so disappointed. The cats were cute but also not focused on as much as I wanted.

Re: the holiday swap: I don’t feel like it’s a fair thing to call it negative for the author to have used a trope or story telling archetype- as every book uses them. And having experienced that type of story before doesn’t make it cliche. When you’re going into a contemporary holiday romance, it’s more realistic to expect familiar plot devices than not, as familiarity is associated with coziness.
Also, the other elements are unique and told in their own way.
ooh I don't think I said it was a negative thing, I just said it fell into a cliche place for me. You're right though, just because I've experienced this story before doesn't mean it's necessarily a cliche, but I feel like I've seen this story several times and that repetitive nature just caused me to have a negative experience with it. I still enjoyed it! I just would've liked to see the author do something new with the tropes presented, but to each their own!
