The reason why Sam isn't in Lara's life anymore is explained in the comics. And additionally to Sam, Jonah and Lara only Reyes survived Yamatai. She is also mentioned in the comics. The day of the dead (Dia de los Muertos) is one of the most prominent mexican traditions. It's a day of celebrating and honoring the deceased. 57:00 - The helicopter is scripted. You can't get through there with pure stealth. Because it is still kind of the tutorial area they wanted to show the gun combat aswell.
I actually followed the comics pretty closely for about the first 15 issues or so! Can't remember many details anymore but I remember thinking that a ton of stuff was just swept away to set up for the start of Rise. Definitely didn't feel satisfying at all.
I love that when Lara said "what have I done", you told her that's the least of what she's done and ten minutes later boom, turns out she kickstarted the apocalypse. I dare say of all of destruction Lara's perpetrated over the years, this one might be the worst. ;)
22:00 it's a Mexican holiday called Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) it exists in some form in many countries, celebrating lost ones and visiting cemeteries etc.. but it's especially cool in Mexico with people painting skulls on faces and wearing masks and making a whole festival out of it. In my county we just go to cemetery on November 1st and leave flowers, and Americans have Halloween night before...
The cemetery reminds me of how the movie COCO also started about the Dia de los Muertos. I honestly never saw such an event take place in my time in Mexico but maybe some areas don't do it as strongly.
I know how you feel about seeing Jonah. It adds to the story and growth of Lara's character but it really sucks none of the other characters made it into these last 2 games. Plus I was a huge Lara/Sam shipper lol.
Since this game is something I plan to play in the future I'll not gonna watch this stream till I actually finished the game. But the beginning sequence looks the same as 2013 and 2016, heck playing ROTR gives me lots of deja vu flashbacks from 2013 this 2018 first sequence gives the same vibes lol. Hopefully 2018 will be a little bit different from its predecessors. Signing out! BTW: Materwelonz is already my favorite streamer, watched her stream of Nier:Automata and Horizon Zero Dawn after I finished both games, all I can say is I like that she gives special attention to reading lore and actually putting an effort to do side quest etc something I don't see from other streamers. More Power to your channel!
32:22 omg I'm so glad I'm not the only one that feels like that hahaha, those walls bugged me even in TR 2013 and here they are even more gross!! I didn't even knew trypophobia is a thing or that is has an actual name and many people have it, but yeah I deff do too :)
Glad you do LP on this one. Tomb Raider 2013 was great, I didn't expect much but was blown away. The Rise was kinda the same, it had improvement but story wasn't that strong, maybe the novelty wore out. Btw there's an option to hear the audio on native language, subtitle still the same. Maybe you'd be interested in trying that, for immersion and all. Oh, it's on already, nvm carry on
I don't have on I don't think! I did see the option, but Lara just talks back to people normally in English as if there were no language barrier which I feel like could be even worse for immersion.
Those Trinity guards.... Sure, just casually walk up to where Larawelonz just murdered 2 of your colleagues a couple of seconds before... They're not sending their best people to Trinity, are they? Also: WHAT THE FRICK HAVE YOU DONE LARAWELONZ?!
It's not Halloween, it's Dia de muertos, Day of the Dead. It 's a public holiday and is celebrated to remember and pray to your dead loved ones, afaik.
In reality the Maya, even at their maximum extent, never spread beyond the Yukatan peninsula (currently shared by Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala) so it's unlikely they even knew of the Amazon, let alone sent an expedition given that it is several thousand kilometres away through famously inhospitable jungle. It could be deliberate or it could be a case of mistaking them for the Inca who covered vast areas of the South American Pacific coast (significantly larger than the Maya's territory at their peak and very close to the various headwaters of the Amazon). Or the Maya could have been going to renew their Prime subscription... you never know!
I love how Lara can spend three minut under water, almost drown, then recover in less then 15 second ... While my stupid ass can drink too fast and end up caughing for 20 minute because a sip of water went on my lungs
I think them finding you was scripted. They made a very blatant attempt to get you to blow up the barrels earlier. I think they just assumed you would and there for that would be enough excuse to call in reinforcements. I hope I'm wrong, it says poor things when they just assume and script in what they want you to do rather than what you actually do.
I really feel your pain about Jonah. He works in a cast of many, like in the first game. But him alone with Lara is just very plain character-wise. They're both way too straight forward. If it's one thing Lara needs it's someone to joke around with, like in the trilogy before this one.
11:44-12:30 What happened with the audio? Some music copyright issue? Also, Lara's voice actress is pretty bad. Yes, pained moans are hard to do convincingly, but if she has trouble with that she should have gone for sharp suppressed intakes of breath. That's something even I can do convincingly, and I have no acting ability. It would have been a lot better than this fake sounding moaning. Maybe it wasn't her call though, in which case it's the director's fail.
Fuck me, they start with the "random-action-scene-with-no-purpose" followed by "two-days earlier"-stick... A good way to show you don't have confidence the story will pull you in on its own or that they have hired a mediocre ABC-type of writer for the game with all the cliches.

Also, everyone should watch Coco, great animated feature. :)
@TheRandomGuy: I agree. I was also disappointed that they made Sam just a side story for the comics.
thought it might have been part on the voice actors not being able to reprise their roles.

Square Enix sent you a copy of their game? Damn Welonz, moving up in the world.
TheAgent056 The game sold poorly compare to past titles so...😅

[the airplane snaps in half] Is this Revenge of the Sith?
["Two days earlier..."] Is this Breaking Bad???
The thumbnail looks great! Props!

I doubt Lara is a lesbian lol

Lara has the upper body strength of Yggrite (from GoT) holding a Longbow at full draw for over a minute.
3:50 - Spoiler alert. Everyone on board survives this.
1:05:01 - Bananas.
Yay!!! I was wondering when you would play this 😊 Great video and great game.
32:22 Welonz, according to TH-cam subtitles you suffer from "stripper phobia" triggered by the sight of poles.
yeah~~~~ THANK you so much~~!
Wow the water was plot sensitive

Ah I see your point. it's just that some NPC spoke spanish, like the falling kid at the end, so I thought you changed it.
Well, keep up the good work.
Celebration for the day of the death, dia de Los muertos

They declared that this game would involve both inca and maya culture, in a FICTIONAL way. So yeah, it was deliberate.
How do you get a company to send you a copy of the game anyway
how many games are you playing
Unknown Person Nope. She’s doing all three. Check out her Twitter.
she might have finished one already as far as we know
Dame she is hard working !!! 😊😊
24:13 Pretty voice in espanol...
I love how Lara can spend three minut under water, almost drown, then recover in less then 15 second ... While my stupid ass can drink too fast and end up caughing for 20 minute because a sip of water went on my lungs
_OH YES._
This game is triggering me. I failed my Maya politics class and i dropped out of Maya hieroglyphs. :D I dont need to be reminded of my failures. :D
dang .. just an hour into it and Lara has already killed like 17000 people:/
And yet people give Nathan Drake shit about killing people
ahh,, I really love Tomb Raider games but hate the claustropohic feeling they gave me

Everyone is recasted yet again. I mean the character models changed drastically.
