The rocks the sailers threw on the Lady of the Rock was the ballast which they no longer needed. This is the reason why cities like Buenos Aires, Rio and Lisbon are paved with stones from across the world.

Hey guys we are kinda brand new to cruising thank you for what was a really good insight into the area
We are going to be based in Greece but have to to leave for 3 months
Would you generally recommend M Montenegro as a destination to sail for that time ? Wr don’t have pots of money for 70 euros a night marinas

      Awesome, glad it was helpful!
Yes I reckon you could, but you might get bored. Depends on how fast you like to move. The coastline is not massive. However, if you are happy taking your time then it would be fine. The Bay of Kotor is simply breathtaking and there are a few other spots along the coast worth stopping off.
There are plenty of great anchorages in the bay of Kotor, the only worry being that it is often very windy as a consequence of the mountains enclosing the bay. There are a couple of reasonable marinas that charge less than €50 euro (at least for our little 29 foot.) There are also a few restaurants with mooring buoys that you can use in a pinch.
You could split your time between the south of Albania and Montenegro, the south of Albania is quite nice but also might not keep you busy for three months. I really have nothing good to say about the north of Albania.
      Hope that helps!

Great video. Montenegro and the Bay of Kotor are fantastik.
Don’t agree 100% with you though. I found Herceg Novi preferable compared to Kotor. First it’s in the mouth of the bay and has much better sun exposure while Kotor is a bit boxed in by mountains. Herceg Novi also has a nicer views than Kotor because it’s mostly built on the mountain side while in Kotor you don’t see past the walls.

      Thank you!
Fair enough, we also thought Herceg Novi was pretty wonderful. We plan to return this year to carry out more research.
