Not true. I have normal T4 and T3 levels according to exams and gained 10 kg after thyroidectomy. Also, i feel tingling fingers... Check dr Westin childs , about weight gain after total thyroidectomy, he explains exactly what happened to me. I had normal weight before removing my thyroid. I gained 10 kg in 3 months after having my thyroid removed. I regret undergoing this surgery everyday
Glad to hear that I'm not alone 😢 I hate it when people keep asking me about my weight. I really want to lose weight but no matter how I do a diet or exercise it doesn't work anymore. Also I can't do extreme exercise, my body can't handle it
I feel you 😪 in the same boat. I've watched as well Dr Childs, but I can't make my thyroid doctor do all the tests. They don't listen and can't keep changing doctors. That is why trying to find a solution on my own 😢
And I live in Brazil, in São Paulo, I've been to the most expensive experts here and they have no clue really... it's just hopeless for me, I feel hopeless. Dr Childs doesn't work seeing patients any more, otherwise I would travel to see him
I gained weight too. My TSH and T4 levels were perfect, my energy level was balanced before my thyroidectomy to remove cancer. Now, i'm cancer free, but I gained 15# that seem impossible to lose, i'm dead tired and take a nap mid day despite sleeping a solid 8-10 hours at night. My TSH is forced hyperthyroid for the first 5 years post surgery so I should be losing weight. frustrating, but cancer free.
Synthetic thyroid hormones do not work! My labs are normal and I have been overweight since I had it removed. My metabolism sucks They took ALL of my thyroid and one parathyroid. Im looking for DO or homeopathic doctor to help me. Someone who will really listen.
5 years since thyroidectomy, 4 cysts in total. I've gained 20kilos. It's hard to lose weight.. I tried with no rice, keto diet and low carb still same. I can't do exercise because I get tired easily and I almost faint and couldn't breathe. I was a cheerleader for 4 years and doing exercises everyday for hours is cool now I couldn't even make it after 30mins. I'm always getting dizzy and sleepy even after having 10 hours of sleep
If you're having the issues with fainting while exercising, you may want to get that checked out as that could be a sign of a cardio/vascular issue and a more severe problem that should be looked at.
I would never had this done if I knew I would never be able to eat again. I am disgusted at 6 lb weight gain in 3 weeks. I will starve myself if I have to. I will not be fat. What happened to informed consent.
Find a DO or holistic dr to help you get on Dessicated thyroid. The synthetics do NOT work. Your bloodwork looks normal but you still gain weight. Happened to me and my best friend (who was always skinny). Now she has a shape like mine, 🥴 it truly sucks.
I've always found it difficult to lose weight and keep off, reading this actually makes me feel depressed. I'll end up needing a tent. It's going to be impossible now 😢
I see quite a few comments here about how people would never have the surgeyr because of weight gain. Choose your battles wisely. If you have thyroid cancer, you're better off having it done and gaining the extra weight than having cancer in you. Even though most thyroid cancers are not aggressive and are slow growing, you have to weigh out the benefits and consqeuences, and I'd consider a 20 lb weight gain a "small" price to pay for a good chance to get rid of cancer or some other thyroid issue, because weight gain is not likely going to kill, you but the cancer or hyper/hypo thyroidism and even goiter could over time. Also sounds like a lot of people have issues with doctors not listening to them.... find another doctor if that's the case. the good ones will do all they can to help get your situation addressed, including the proper tests (there are some thyroid doctors taht say that not all doctors, particular GPs, are not the best for thyroid issues and that you should really work with an endocronologist for these issues).
Now i am 51.i am done total thyroidoctomy 8 years ago. Now i am frequently weight loss and my tsh level is 0.01. Anyone guide to me for weight gain, increasing of tsh level, weught gain. Please save my life.
I would talk to your doctor, and if they can't help, find another one. Usually people gain weight, not lose it, but I guess too much of either one is not good for you (unless you were overweight to begin with, and maybe are back to "normal" or maybe slightly under normal.)
I had half my thyroid removed and then a few months later had a severe B12 deficiency. My metabolism was shot. The Doctors ignored me and told me 'my bloods were normal'. The hospital that did the procedure said 'if you have any symptoms contact your Doctor'. The medical system is appalling when it comes to endocrine problems

Same! It's been 2 yrs for me and gained over 40 lbs. I hate it so much😢

Glad I am reading this. I would now never have my thyroid removed.

Completely agree with comments. Endocrinologists are a bunch of quacks

What doctor has 😢to say bro

Find another doctor. Part of being informed is you seeking out more than one opinion and doing your research!

My TSH is .01 also, post cancer thyroidectomy, but I struggle to lose weight.
How did you lose weight but not gain? Did your appetite level decrease or increase?
Plz visit to your dr may be they set the right amount of dose of thyroxine tablets if you are taking 100mcg then plz take 50mcg dose in the morning
