    I’ve owned several Ego products including their mower. If the handle on the Sterling is anything like the one of my old Ego mower that alone would turn me off even at half the price. It just felt really cheap… It’s a no from me.

    • @thelionlawn
      @thelionlawn  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They're certainly more plastic than the previous Allett offering, but they don't feel particularly cheap. Perhaps they've changed since the original? Either way, I agree, for that sort of price, you want to feel quality. 👍

    my question is who can afford a 6grand mower in times like this

    • @thelionlawn
      @thelionlawn  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you can believe it, the price has increased again. It's now closer to $8,000. They've surely priced themselves out of a heap of potential customers.

    Nice Vid!
    In my Country theres a Allet Saler which sells a Stirling 51cm (a Demo Model) incl the 5ah Batterie for "€4500" which is expensive anyway but i have a Atco Balmoral 20sk with 2 Cartridges in which i can use this one on the Stirling 🤔
    So lets see on Monday if i will buy them or not 😅 (have to sell the Balmoral other whise im solo again says my wife 😂)

    They are ok mowers but their pricing puts them out of the market for me. I would much rather a mow master for the price personally. I had a Kensington for a few years and it was good but they are very light and a bit tinny.

    • @sharman567
      @sharman567 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think even the mowmaster egx when it comes out will be roughly the same price I'd say as this and it's just in a different league. Cartridge system is great though

    • @thelionlawn
      @thelionlawn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the cartridge system is what's keeping this mower in the discussion. Of course, there's the battery -v- petrol argument to be made as well. But I'm with you, unfortunately for the price, I'll stick with the Liberty.

    • @sharman567
      @sharman567 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thelionlawn yeah absolutely. It's definitely in a niche market for sure. But for that price I'd be seriously looking at a mowmaster which is about up to 1000 cheaper. Pending on what get. Honda's new electric egx is maybe a year away and that'll be on a mowmaster for the same price or I've seen a mowmaster with a groomer attachment aswell. So for us Aussies we have some serious quality options for the same pricetag.

    The more I research, the more I realize the Stirling is on a higher level over all reel mowers aimed at the homeowner.

    Nice video 😊 I have some relatively tight areas to manoeuvre around in my garden and wonder how the Sterling is like on the turns. Allett mention an UltraGlide system. Did you find it turns much easier than the Liberty?

    • @thelionlawn
      @thelionlawn  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To be honest, they both felt pretty similar in that regard. I didn't notice one being particularly harder or easier to manoeuvre.

    Over $7k for the Stirling? Thats just the 43 from bris cylinder mowers. Has the price gone up everywhere or is it just them? Would love one but that is just crazy money

    • @thelionlawn
      @thelionlawn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Price went up everywhere in January. Obviously they have a business model for it, but I reckon keeping them underneath the Swardman pricing would have been the go. Seemingly not though!

  • @johnthumble5154
    @johnthumble5154 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    For anyone wondering the price is now $7,173 and the 10 blade cartridge is over $1000.
    They're kind of stepping away from the homeowner market at that price.

    • @thelionlawn
      @thelionlawn  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wow! The price just keeps increasing!! I wonder whether it's supply/demand, and they know they'll get away with it, but I absolutely agree, that's no longer in the realm of reasonable for most home users.

      @@thelionlawn mate I want one and could probably afford it but I don't think I can justify it especially once you factor in $800 for a battery and charger. Hopefully the major tool brands start to develop and compete as you mentioned yourself.

  • @ithertzz
    @ithertzz ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The price of the Stirling is outrageous. I nearly bought a Kensington but ended up getting a second hand Scott bonnar for a third of the price and I'm putting about another $1000 into it with new bearings/bolts/grind and there were a few anomalies with the rear drums which aren't normal considerations, but included in the overall expenditure. All said and done, it'll be about $2k on this project and I'm not sure there'd be any difference between the Scottie and the liberty/Kensington. Not in the 10-15mm range I'll be cutting at anyway. A shame really because I'm already invested in the Ego range with some other bits and pieces... Just simply not worth that investment.
    The Stirling has gone up in price since i got a quote about a year ago and from memory the reel didn't come standard. Very expensive, but the cartridge system is impressive.

    • @thelionlawn
      @thelionlawn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely, mate. Although, something like a Scotty is in a fairly different category anyway (same as the mow master etc) being a petrol mower. So I reckon the battery power is what they're relying on to justify the costs, and for now, that might hold some weight, but soon enough, they'll need to be in line with fuel motors to keep in the market, I think.

    Great video the best thing they did with that new Stirling is to get rid of that bar that holds the grass catcher! That is a pain to put back on when changing cartridges. The new model looks like it’s so easy and fast t change cartridges. I wish I could afford that 6000 plus cost of it. I’d love to replace my Kensington a 2021 model

    • @thelionlawn
      @thelionlawn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not wrong mate - I often decide to just go without the catcher, rather than try and jam that bar back on the Liberty haha. It was a bit of a clunky design, but it served its purpose I guess.

    • @thelionlawn
      @thelionlawn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@richardportelli1983 Yeah, I imagine they'd sell way more at that price point, but in this category there really isn't much competition yet, so I suppose they are just finding their market. For that sort of money, there's plenty of excellent petrol options, so it makes it hard if you're trying to make a conscious decision to move to battery power etc. I hope the category keeps evolving and more competition comes along to bring the prices in line with expectation. Still, plenty of people bought them at this price, so they're probably not overly concerned!

    • @brianwhitney9181
      @brianwhitney9181 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, for me my Liberty once you start adding the cartridges to your accessories it adds up but not like it will with the Sterling. The only thing I wish I could get as a replacement on my model is the grass catcher that comes with the Sterling. The outdated heavy plastic bin on the Liberty has to go. Allett said if they put it on the Liberty it would hurt the Sterling sales. That is a joke as the Sterling is so far out of the price range of most weekend warriors.
