Looks great! I lightened my Sledge by changing shock towers to carbon fiber, gutting the battery tray to use straps and running truggy tires on TRX dish wheels. I do not run swaybars and I have not considered taking the T-bar out but for a track advantage I may try that!
Not sure removing the centre brace is going to make much difference apart from stiffness would like to see you try with it in and out for comparison, my thinking is better have it fitted for those oh crap moments that happen no matter how or where you drive it, so the very small weight penalty is good insurance.
@@michaelberthelsen8152 Yep my thoughts exactly, if you want to drive normally maybe he should stick to driving a UDR and the Super Baja Rey now they drive normal and can take light to medium bashing I have both and no heavy duty bashers I have several 5th gas but they are Trophy Trucks and Class 1 buggies for medium bashing and I have fun I do break stuff not so often and never expensive bar one freak accident.
When you got this I was hoping to see it lightened up, suspension tuned, and some truggy tires. I’d like to see it on a track head to head with top tier TLR, AE, and Tekno truggies just for fun. I bet it could be tuned to be pretty competitive honestly.
Yea I love the idea of making the Sledge lighter in weight since its an absolute chubster at stock of 12.74 pounds WITHOUT lipos. With 2 3s lipos its gotta be pushing 14 pounds which is extremely heavy for that small of an rc. In direct comparison to the Arrma Kraton 6s BLX v.5 its bone stock weight is 10.67lb which is incredibly lighter, and if you upgrade to the Bashqueen carbon fiber parts I believe Rich Duperbash got it into the 9 pound range which for that size of an rc is incredibly light. I think if you can get the Sledge down into the 10-11 pound range the durability and handling will skyrocket. Personally i think 13-14 pounds is just way too heavy for that size of an rc. But I love the idea MSM!
My son's been saving up for a Maxx and since this came out, I'm going to sell him mine at cost to him instead completely modded out. And I'm getting the sledge. Love the modds you've done I want mine to be track focused like this, there is nothing like running on a track with your rcs or makes parking lot bashing kinda boring! Can't wait to see this hit a track!

Bad news, Good news Bad: It's true that none of the upgrade parts are available yet through 3rd-party (Amain to Horizon Hobby, etc) retailers. It's also true that some of the upgrade parts aren't yet available anywhere. Good: However...most of the upgrade parts ARE now available directly from Traxxas. Earlier this evening, I got the blue spring retainers, blue shock caps, blue bellcranks posts, front/rear sway bar kit, and front & rear TiN shock shafts ordered. Granted, there are still other parts I feel are *required*...but, the above-listed parts are what I'm considering the "Phase 1" upgrade requirements. Now, if I could just get the Sledge...lol. As always, Mark, keep up the excellent job. The "Traxxas faithful" rely on you. 🤙🏼
Hey Mark, It looks really cool. The way you are describing the new performance, sounds like my Losi Eight T XE kit build. I put the response tires on my E-Revo also. I had a Savox Servo in my Kraton EXB and it died on the first run. LHS returned it, and I had purchased a Red High Torque 400 In Oz. Traxxas servo for my X-Maxx, and I put it in my Kraton EXB, and that servo is crazy. Put in in your Sledge. I would like to add a Sledge to my collection. I built a Tamiya Super Avante, and it is so cool. I know you like Tamiya, and you should get the Super Avante also.
Cant wait till the track videos...and man i wish we could get like orange or green colored wheels...tire companies need to give more options..that would make it look sick with those tires
Should do a track day and swap back the old setup and then pull the brace and see how it handles vs with and with out it stock, then add the sway bars and run it, with and without the brace. then do wheel are tire test after in each combo with the race wheels and tires. so get a better understand of what does what far as that brace on and with out in various combos.

I’m curious how that aluminum chassis plate is going to hold up from warping since the brace bar is now removed. I’m pretty sure Traxxas didn’t just add the brace bar for extra durability, they added it because the constant turning left and right probably started to warp the aluminum chassis.
Just finally made it to the Traxxas Headquarters love it love it... had all the parts/ colors for like every model even the sledge. Ended up grabbing a red Maxx v2 so effing stoked. Hope hope I get tomorrow off as its Sunday lmao. 3hr one way drive well worth it while in Dallas anyhow haha

Hey I got a question for you. Whats your advice/ or your way of cleaning your cars? More specifically the ones you race. I have a tekno and I wanna give it a deep clean.
Great vid Mark, the Sledge looks sweet now, actually rocking the Seattle Sea-Hawks colors (I'm in Seattle). I think this opens the opportunity to some companies to make a CF (Carbon Fiber, here) center chassis brace, for weight savings, but probably the same, or even slightly more, chassis stiffness.
that things looks sick and the handling, wow, i try not to buy many RC cars but i like what you did with this kit hard not to imulate!..i wanted to buy a tekno ET48 2.0 but this is next
chassis braces are a biiiiiiiig difference… when i had my slash ultimate stock it got pretty squirrely and there was a lot of understeer and sliding.. as soon as I added the chassis brace everything feels stiffer and theres not much of a body roll now.. coming around tight corners able to keep the speed through them as well!!
@@wilson1408 no brace in a sledge vs a slash is 2 totally different scenarios. The sledge has several other braces and MUCH better chassis. It won’t matter on the sledge unless you do hard bashing off jumps.

Has anyone used the Sledgehammer tires on the Rustler 4x4 VXL? I’ve broken a front axle during 3ft jump off a grass hill onto grass (It landed on the edge of the tire). I contacted Traxxas and they told me to loosen the slipper clutch half a turn to remove pressure off the driveline. I wasn’t sure about this response from Traxxas. I do release the throttle when landing any jump to avoid driveline shock.
Love you content and that spot you bash at, but bro…..how do you not have like 3 matching sloped bmx ramps or something you can put on the lip of that hill. Would be so fun to watch you actually send them some times.
