Baseball Doesn’t Exist just made a great video on Jose, called What Really Happened to Jose Fernandez. one of the craziest stories in sports in recent memory, i still remember the day I woke up and saw his death on the news. crazy shit

@@rebelamanda the rzn he doesn’t have a statue and his number isn’t retired is cuz the dad of one of the other ppl in the boat thinks Jose was a murder and doesn’t deserve it. But I say fuck him and build a statue. Not to remember how he went, but to remember who he was.

dee gordon has said he's never hit a ball that hard or that far in his life and he wholeheartedly believes jose was with him at that moment. ive seen this video at least 10 times now and it never fails to make me cry.

It’s been a while but I am back
They should have let it play out for 5-10+ more seconds to show the moment. I love that channel’s content but they always do that. Also fyi it looked like it didn’t register when they said it, Dee Gordon the batter only had like 8 home runs in his career before this, out of like over 2000 plate appearances. Probably the craziest part.

The Marlins would go on to win that game. Afterwards, every player left their Fernandez 16 jerseys on the mound as extra tribute.
If you can handle it, in 2019, another pitcher, named Tyler Skaggs passed away during the season as well, and the tributes flooded in all across baseball. One such just so happened to be a no-hitter on the first home game for the LA Angels after his untimely death.
PLEASE do a video of jose Fernandez highlights and definitely the tribute at the mound after the game.

You should react to David Ayres the Emergency Goalie. Think you would really enjoy that. It was truly amazing. If you don't know what an emergency goalie is, I will try to explain a bit. Each NHL team has an emergency goalie. During a normal game 2 goalies suit up. The one starting in net and the backup goalie if the starter is doing terrible or gets injured. But if both starting goalie and backup goalie is injured, an emergency goalie is called in. An emergency goalie has basic goalie skills, but nothing like the pro's.
But lets say New York Rangers goes into Boston and the New York team loses both their goalies, then the New York team would get the Boston's Emergency goalie. The emergency goalies dont travel with the teams. They just stay at their respective arenas. So if either team needs one, they can go in for either team no matter what. Anyway. Its a good watch and heartwarming.
You should check out american festivals, there are quite a few strange but cool ones. I would highly checking out fantasy fest, it's basically a 10 day adult costume street party.

I know it’s an old video. But yeah, baseball has a lot of PEDs. The entire season lasts for 7 months, 162 games, and a post season that can go another 20 games. If a guy doesn’t perform, then the young kid behind him gets the job. It is a grind. Players will always try to get an edge.

Baseball, and several other American sports, has a long history of cheating. From the "Black" Sox throwing games for money in 1919, to the Steroid Era of the '90s, there have been many incidents of cheating in the sport. Steroid usage in baseball is not allowed and will result in usually an 80 game ban for your first offense (note 80 games is just less than half a season, the MLB regular season is 162 games) and a season suspension for the second offense before a ban if caught a third time (at least that's how it's laid out). Many notable players have been caught using steroids including the home run kings of the late '90s and early '00s like Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, and Barry Bonds and more recent examples like former Yankees players Alex Rodriguez and Robinson Cano.
The sport has many "approved"/accepted forms of cheating like pitchers using foreign, sticky substances (like pine tar) to get a better grip on the baseball. These forms of cheating usually are only "attacked" or enforced during big moments or if the offender is being especially obnoxious about it. Recently, the ability for both the fan base and the league to draw a distinct enough line in the sand has caused issue. Stealing signs is considered perfectly legal, however several teams recent use of technology to steal signs has been generally considered illegal and led to very hot debates. The most notable instance of this occurring is the Houston Astros using cameras in their stadium to steal signs during their run to ultimately win a World Series during the 2017 season. The story broke just after the conclusion of the 2019 World Series where the Astros were defeated by the Nationals and threw the community into chaos which was increasingly fueled by the MLB's inability to do anything "right".
TL;DR There has been cheating in baseball for as long as the sport has been around. The cheating issue is a very weird and hard issue to discuss in baseball because of the existence of "approved" ways to cheat.

The whole steroids issue is something that is dumb if you ask me. Guys have been trying to one up each other since Ty Cobb was sliding into second with his cleats up to stab. Yeah I know it's not the same thing obviously, but if a guy wants to gain strength and speed at the risk of an early heart attack just let him do it. Trust me, the fans won't mind
