The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art is one of the flagships of the Japanese manufacturer when it comes to lens systems. So it's no wonder that the engineers designed the newcomer in such a way that not only its structure, but also its picture quality is immaculate. In the press release, the authorities emphasize that the Mark II significantly surpasses the previous variant; they were able to do this by using the most modern technologies available by the development engineers. The resolving power of the optics has increased in the entire zoom range, and now we also have an aperture ring, but the focus motor has also been replaced: the HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) is much faster (we are talking about an almost incredible three times the speed!) and has much more torque than the unit of the previous version .
The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art is approximately 7% smaller and 10% lighter than its predecessor: the Sony E-mount version weighs 735 grams (745 grams for the Leica L-mount), measures 87.8 x 122.2 mm (fits into the Leica L-mount 2 mm shorter). The optical formula contains a total of 19 lens elements organized into 15 groups, of which 6 are FLD, 2 are SLD and 5 are aspherical. The smallest subject distance ranges from 17-34 cm, depending on the chosen focal length. The iris of the aperture is rounded and consists of a total of eleven lamellas, so the "butter soft bokeh" is almost guaranteed. The diameter of the filter thread is 82 mm - thanks to this, peripheral darkening is likely to be minimal.
During the development of the optical formula, the engineers also made sure that focus breathing was as small as possible, so the lens system can fully satisfy the needs of not only photographers, but also filmmakers. The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Of course, Art is also equipped with dust- and drop-proof insulation, so when paired with the right frame, you don't have to give up on creating images even in the harshest conditions. There are also two programmable buttons labeled "AFL" on the tube, which further increase the functionality of the lens. The lens is also equipped with a focus lock, so the focal length can be fixed at 24 mm - it should be mentioned separately that to release the lock, it is enough to start rotating the zoom ring, the system cannot be released just by moving the lock button.
