- An elite group of climbers attempts to be the first to measure the height of Hkakabo Razi, in Myanmar (Burma), said to be Southeast Asia’s highest peak. But the challenges they encounter are more than they bargained for. Situated in the largely unexplored Dandalika Range-which has long been overshadowed in mountaineering circles by the loftier mountains of the Himalaya-Hkakabo Razi is something of a forgotten peak.

Hello!! How was the expedition?
I gotta say. I already saw it on Vimeo, I like the work of Camp4 and I've seen they are very respectful with the local people and I admire the endurance and mental strength of all the athletes but in this one I got the feeling that they were a bit on the uppity side.
Giving the conditions in Myanmar and Kachin State I think it was most expectable all their struggle and, on the top of that, they had to be filming the whole journey, but it looked like they were expecting a smooth journey with people solving the things for them and when something didn't get like apparently they planned is like "it's chaos"... but what did you expect there, man? There was a lot of burmese people involved who actually took them that far and thru most part of the journey in hard situations which for them are just part of their daily life.
They weren't in their element in the jungle (I've been in Myanmar and in SE Asia on the hottest months and I know it can be very hard to deal with specially if you're trekking and carrying plenty of stuff with you) and I understand they have tons of thing to deal with, but the porters were there too, walking the same, sweating and carrying most part of the equipment without any special equipment. Some of them of course gonna get hurt and when it happens, it's like "oh great...now that this people got hurt we won't be able to take all of the gear anymore and we already made half of the way"...the porters were the ones who carried the gear that far, people...a bit of recognition and humility, please.
yes i agree with your argue.. respect all mountain porters, wherever they are. cause however, the porters is an important aspect in every single expedition.
Many people are misunderstanding Burma which has their own region historically. Actually, this country is not part of Burma, but it is Kachin State with our own ethnically Kachin people, Kachin cultures, Kachin regions, Kachin literatures, Kachin history and Kachin language.

Ive watch the movie raya and the last dragon

So the place Spine in the movie raya is actualy this place.
Havn't watched the full length version, but what I get out of this short one is that they don't seem to focus that much on the very unique nature in the region that as a result of Myanmars isolation and tough terrain is very untouched, not to forget that many ethnic groups in the region have very limited contact with the outside world, and since this is NatGeo makes me even more surprised. Instead they have the focus on a bucnh of very egoistic explorers that seems to underestimate the task.
To bad since I'm really found of northern Myanmar. And that ladie seems to have a very arrogant attitude.

Mi Qu --- Well said. There are actually people who climb, hike, and venture into the mountains FOR THE MOUNTAINS, not for their egos, emotions, or portrait-accompanied self-presenting narratives. I have been interested in this isolated and unknown peak for decades, it is nice to know there is still a region of the eastern Himalayas that is still as remote as the central Himalayas were during the great pioneer exploration treks and climbing expeditions of 1920 - 1975.

Isn't the highest peak in South East Asia Cartenz Pyramid in Papua?
Mt Kinabalu is 4,096 m (13,438 ft) tall.
Cartenz Pyramid/Puncak Jaya is 4,884 m (16,024 ft)
Hkakabo Razi is 5,881 m (19,295 ft) tall.
Please explain to me how 4096 or 4884 is taller than 5881.
The reading he made at the point he reached was 18,840 feet which is 5742m - and they were still below the summit.
In term of all the nation of Southeast Asia which is include Myanmar, yes its the tallest, BUT if geographical area of Southeast Asia, Mount Kinabalu is the tallest, since its situated on the Sunda Plate, unlike Hkakabo Razi which is on the Himalayan Mountain range, and the one in Indonesia, is on the island of Papua, which on Australian Plate.

No, they can't be. They'd immediately get altitude sick and they're done. Either they have to acclimatise on this peak or somewhere else first.
You guys couldn’t rent a chopper to drop you off at the base of the summit. Even if it takes a few back and forth it would still be better than going through the jungle with all that gear
The 60 km hike helps them acclimatize to the elevation. The mailman flew in in the 1996 disaster..doug died.

Nope part of the Himalayas. Literally the southeastern edges. Plenty of unexplored peaks and mountains.
Where at all pro ? stay at the same way on 8000 AHAH... have many summit not explore that is great... i hope the indonesian team will fix it soon

+Steven Rappolee If you just want the height, do a LIDAR sweep from a helicopter, plane or satellite. The goal was to have an adventure nobody had had before.
+Carlos Zenteno I agree with the goal of the adventure hence my thought of flying a gopro or other device plus the GPS from the point they could not make further progress, That imagery of such a flight would be much more breathtaking then a aircraft or satellite to us and a future expedition
+Steven Rappolee Yeah, good point. A cheap drone from where they stopped would have been easy to deploy. Somehow I had the feeling that they did not plan 100% for the trip, lots of unexpected "oops" on the expedition.

..i'll be on the surfaces back again at the loch for this shire hkakabo razi to replaced them properly by my grandsons mikhail & saiful inviting them in thailand..well,my fuji frozen still,in case of i'd needed to avoid them here,the jewish..hallelujah,amen

Why does National Geographic post this and then not even mention the names of the climbers, in either the film credits or in the Publisher's Notes? Is it asking too much to name them rather than just say 'an elite group of climbers'???

Highest peak in that mountain range is over 6500 meters.
That is higher than my information about Hkakabo Razi at 5,881meters (19,295ft). Is your peak in Myanmar? As clearly the Himalayas has higher peaks.
