Thoroughly enjoying your vids. Continue to pick up some great tips on gear. Thanks for that. Could you show some closer detail of your rigging and nymphs?
G'day Wyatt - im pretty lazy so I try not to change much - I generally use wax or a paint pen to mark tippet - if I want to fish deeper, i just rub some of the wax off to the depth i want or apply if I want shallower.
Nice vid and some beautiful fish. The maxcatch extreme is a pretty good rod despite its price. I've got a 9'6" 6wt that's great for stillwater. I also pretty much exclusively use maxcatch hooks. They're super cheap, super sharp and I've never had an issue with quality.
hey mate, www.aliexpress.com/item/32763713106.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.11.15e5180232B5C3 i messaged the seller and asked to purchase the rod tube by itself- the largest they had was 81*6cm, transparent cylindrical hard plastic. Price was US$25 for tube and postage. I ended up buying one of the rod and reels as I am interested in testing a budget ali express combo to compare in a video. They just switched the rods tube to the 81*6 for me. I'm still undecided about the hooks - the one i tried to test broke off a the tippet so I didn't get a fair idea on its strength - will keep testing.
Easiest option is to go a monofilament. You don't really need a euro line tbh - i have one on my euro reel but it hardly ever comes of the reel. Instead I use about 40ft of mono attached to it and just fish that. I use the following tacticalflyfisher.com/products/amnesia-monofilament in 10lb.
Quick release of the video legend ! Solid fishing ! Spot looks familiar lol ! How was the snow ? Planning on going in two weeks after Mother's Day ..... mate I was off .... mums the word kept me back ! Snow producers spawners !
Hey Al! Just went with a cheap one from www.troutflies.com.au/landing-net/deluxe-nz-trout-net.html . Pretty sure he sources them from ali express. I'm keen to get one of the weigh nets but its hard to justify $250 for a net compared to $35. You heading up to the outing next week?
Some advice when catching any wild fish that you're releasing: Avoid touching them with your bare hand. If you MUST touch the fish, wet your hand first. Touching a trout with a dry hand removes their protective mucus layer. If it is removed, the fish will contract a fungus and die quickly. The same problem can occur when using a fishing net to land fish - make sure it's wet. Apply as little pressure as possible when handling a trout. Squeezing them too tightly is a common cause of death.
@@jackavalon8366 because I have a Phd in Marine Biology, so you can say that I know a thing or two about fish...and before you ask, yes, I know trout are both a seawater & freash water species. Trout, being part of the Salmon species, do leave fresh water if they have access to the sea, and will return to their fresh water hme to spawn.
Being a marine biologist isnt very relevant to trout down under. Ours never go in the marine environment. I thought the fish were well handled and your didactic comment was overly pessimistic.
Cheers PP! Probably my favorite river tbh - never once seen another angler. Have a few more planned before end of season. Thinking of switching to carp in the off season; you fished for them much?
@@p3p_flyfishing Yeah, it's one of our favourites, too. I'll be near there tommorrow, if my legs up for it I'll try to have a flick. Carp are so tempting, I've bought the flies but once again, waiting on the crook leg. Lake Wallace has had a major infestation for the first time, so will probably give them a run there soon. They sound tough to catch on fly. Good luck with it! Would make some interesting footage. I enjoyed the one you did in Canberra. Get a bigger net! 🙂 I'm waiting for some of those Canberra cod to turn up in your vids! Start waxing your skis. Cheers PP
Great video . Looking forward to the setup video and a fly guide -awesome fish there!

cheers mate, yup sure can; will run through setup and fly choice in my next outing.

Just like they should be put back 🤙
Beautiful!
Massive trout!!!
Love your videos!! Do you have to change your rig depending on the depth of the pool?

Hi thanks for great video 😊👍🏻 can you please tell what’s the location ?
Very cool indeed. Nsw or Vic?
NSW :)
Bud great vids - do you have a link for the rod tube? I need something similar- also any further thoughts on the hooks. I’ve used them… they seem ok.

Thoughts on a monofilment core vs braided core euro fly line?

can you fish in koziosko national park in late august like will there be fish?
I was thinking the same thing…

And you know this because...?

Another beaut trip p3. Such a great river. Lots of colour in those fish, too. Hope you squeeze in a few more before the real snow comes. Cheers PP
