    Though I didn't understand a single word from this interview, I could tell the look of disappointment on Vika's face. Sad. I, too, felt that she would win gold after the amazing floor exercise. However, I chose to accept that on that particular day, Gabby was the more consistent gymnast, and the judges rewarded her for that. As with any other sport, in gymnastics, you are only as good as your last event. Unfortunately, Vika didn't have it that day. Still, I have faith in her. I hope to see her compete in this year's World's together with Mustafina and Kharenkova. For sure, the US girls would have a hard time defending their title.

    You'd cry too if you had the rug pulled out from under you twice. If you had been training for something your whole life and you were under an enormous amount of pressure to win you'd cry if things didn't go well. She didn't go to the Olympics to get the silver. I can understand how she feels. It's nice to get a medal at the Olympics, but it's no fun to loose. I really thought that she had it after her FX set. She came back beautifully after vault, but it wasn't enough which is so sad.

    She looks completely gutted. I think she just wanted gold so badly and was incredibly disappointed in herself. She knew she could do it since she qualified first.
    2011 AA could have gone to her with different judges, but here it was obviously the bad vault that lost it for her.

    • @BigSleepyOx
      @BigSleepyOx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Vika finished first in qualifying, but that was partially due to Gabby bouncing totally off the floor in qualifying, suffering a 13.7. But in team finals and AA, Gabby got over 15 on floor, which was more her typical score. Had she performed typically on floor in qualifying, she' have qualified #1 instead of #3.

    Omg she took her medal off...
    Her vault was too big of a mistake. It's a shame because if that went differently she would have won by a mile. I am so happy Gabby won, but girls from other countries can't do that vault well yet and it has dramatically altered the competition with an uneven playing field.

      From what I can tell, Komova's extra steps on her vault dismount only cost her 0.2 points (getting a 0.3 deduction rather than the smaller 0.1 deduction she'd have gotten for landing with one foot out of bounds). So if she had fought to not take the extra steps, she'd have increased her score by 0.2, but still would have lost by 0.066.

    Watching the Russian gymnasts at this Olympics was really sad. They clearly worked so hard and are very talented, but their lack of consistency bit them, especially on the floor in the team final. What's especially sad is that Komova probably won't get another shot at olympic gold again. Ah, well. C'est la vie. I think we all just need to accept that the Americans won for a reason. They had more consistency where it counted. And to those still bitter about Gabby's AA gold, remember she didn't get any event final medals... Komova didn't get any either, but Mustafina got two.

    Artistic gymnastics is no more popular in Russia than it is in the USA. Rhythmics has a large fanbase though. I don't think the importance of the sport in her country would make her any more or less sad.

    Im an american and I will be the first to say that komova was robbed. She is the better gymnast. I dont think any gymnast, american or Russian can hold a candle to her or disagree. If so, they are lying to themselves.

    • @BostonBruins4019
      @BostonBruins4019 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Komova is definitely the better gymnast, and yes, she was the best in the world. But on that day, Gabby was better. It hurts to say it because I think Gabby's gymnastics is degrading for the sport as she is one of the least artistic gymnasts I've ever seen. The human eye knows which gymnast is more technically perfect. Americans won't admit it, but the world knows who the better gymnast really is, and it's definitely Komova. If I had to rank the gymnasts in 2012, I'd put Wieber above Douglas too! Wieber is just such a more complete and beautiful gymnast, as opposed to Raisman or Douglas.
      1. Komova
      2. Wieber
      3. Douglas

      BostonBruins4019 yeah, I guess if you go by, mistakes vs mistakes, komova did have more than gabby did that day. I just hate that it turned out like that bc komova truly is the best gymnast in the world. I was very disappointed. I thought for sure, after komova pulled off that absolutely stunning floor set, that the gold was hers.

    • @BostonBruins4019
      @BostonBruins4019 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Andrea Jimenez Hmm yes. As an American, I really always want an american to win, but in this case Komova was clearly the better gymnast. However, based on the opinions of the judges depicted by the scores over the course of the Olympics, it is clear that they were not keen on rewarding gorgeous form and attention to detail, which is kind of sad. On the day of the AA, in terms of the narrow-minded judges, Gabby performed the best, and I can see that. But it's so dissapointing. Just by watching Vika's floor and Gabby's the level of maturity and elegance is so different it's unmistakeable! :( Hopefully Vika can take advantage of her new tall lines (kinda like Sveta) and win Worlds this year and Rio!

    • @coyotesong
      @coyotesong 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just weighing in as another american, and I thought there was no doubt as to Vika's superiority. As was noted, Gabby lacks artistic skill whereas Vika is about artistic as well as physical skill.

      @mustyfan1584 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Even with Komova's vault, it's generally accepted that Gabby was overscored on both bars and beam. Seeing as it was a matter of a few tenths between Vika and Gabby, Vika still could've (and arguable should've) won.
