    "which was completely unnecessary"
    i strongly disagree. sky bison murals are ALWAYS necessary

    • @MechanicalFiend
      @MechanicalFiend  3 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Hahaha totally agree with you there, but the one I painted here didn't even end up on the final miniature, so technically it was a little unnecessary! Still included it in the end though, so maybe you're right lol!

    "Little pointless detail work" is never pointless! It feeds our brains what we need to do what we do.

      Definitely agree, without working on those things I honestly am not sure I would finish projects sometimes haha!

    I just watched studson studio's build on howl's moving castle and i was thinking "what if someone were to build atla's upside down air temple" and as I scrolled through his comment section i came across your channel and the exact build i was thinking of :0. I just wanna say your build is really impressive. I love all the details you put into the temple and cliff and little sculptures. i literally just came here lol but i'm really inspired to work on a miniature version of the frog's house in travelling frog(game) or maybe Arrietty's little house under the floorboards :D

    • @MechanicalFiend
      @MechanicalFiend  3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Hahaha I honestly can't believe you could say this was impressive after watching Studson's build, that's on another level! Appreciate it so so much though, glad to know a little bit of serendipity was working in our favor! Super cool projects, hope you get to do one (or both) of them in the future! I did a tiny piece of Arrietty's bedroom a bit ago- that whole house is just so beautiful~

    This is completely rad as always, I especially love using the lack of shelf space as inspiration to create an iconic upside-down world. I hope for your sake you get to work on a smaller project next because they are always so impressive, from giant house on a cliff to a tiny borrowers bedroom in a cookie tin. Seeing you work on projects from media that clearly means so much to you is just the icing on top of your incredible builds because you can truly tell in the attention to details and beautifully done editing. I think you've done the show more than justice with this, sincerely a long time avatar fan and new but enthusiastic MechanicalFiend fan.

    • @MechanicalFiend

      Kinda always say this, but I seriously don't think I would finish projects if I was making things that I wasn't passionate about. Ahh seriously, thank you that is all far far too kind, always so happy you could enjoy! And yeah really want to do a smaller project next lol the problem is all the projects I have on the list are... big of course. So I'm still not really sure what to do tbh haha, we'll see?

    • @MechanicalFiend

    I must say Avatar Tlab is one of the most inspiring and breathtaking series I've seen in my life! But also one of my biggest disapointment since the moment I discovered in my childhood that there actually was no books even though the series is organised with books... My book-thirsty 9 years old was cryyyiiiiing :)

    • @MechanicalFiend
      @MechanicalFiend  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Haha well technically there are some related books now! Comics from after the series and I think there are a few actual books too. Either way, the show tells the story so well that part of me doesn't want it to be in any other format (we saw what they did to the movie lol). I LOVED the intro! Super great video, A++! Right now I’m working on a crazy wizard tower that’s about 3 foot tall, that looks like a giant dragon took a bite out of it, with a huge chunk of the shingles and bricks ripped off, with only the wooden “structure” inside showing. I’ve used a lot of your crafting tips for some of my projects, especially your aluminum foil rocks! This is actually my first non-themed build, just something out of my imagination. I’m also working on the flying howls moving castle from the end of howls moving castle ( I already made the big main one) but it’s pretty hard, considering that there are LITERALLY only two shots of it from the move, a side view and a top view of the back half. So, 🤞I can make up the rest of it. Thanks so much for inspiring me, you and all the other crafters on TH-cam have taught me a lot of good crafting skills, and I’ve gotten a lot better. Thank you so much!

      That sounds so insanely cool, oh my goodness! Really hope all your projects are going well, they sound like pretty big undertakings haha, props to you! If you want to share them when you're done, I would love to see them so much! Yeahhhh it's always super difficult when there's only a few references, but that also allows you to be a little more creative. Love the little garden addition on the flying version! Anyway just thank you so so much for all the super nice words, seriously that's all way too nice. Really happy to hear the videos could help in any way and wish you luck you with the crafting~

    I knit.
    This past year, I added to the insanity by unplying my yarn. I use the thinnest needles I can find, even using florists' wire where necessary - but using sock yarn that is labeled as SUPERFINE, it's prehhhhhhtty gosh-dern thin, but made from twisting 3-5 thinner yarns -- like a cable suspension bridge, the wire cables have much more strength when they are twisted, layered, and twisted some more. Well, taking the yarn apart not only leaves me with insanely thin yarn, but insanely frail yarn, too-boot! And, it takes a lonnnnnng time to do - and, lots get broken because of how weak it becomes. So, ya, I feel ya when you spoke about unravelling to get the effect you need for this project.

    • @MechanicalFiend
      @MechanicalFiend  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the individual strands can definitely be pretty fragile on their own, that's why I tend to only use them for aesthetic purposes rather than functional haha. Totally feel your pain though, sounds like your yarn is a ton thinner, which I can only imagine is super difficult to work with. Wish you well with all your future knitting and yarn unraveling, I am with you my friend!

    My younger self would have said his favorite character is Zuko, and he'd totally be a firebender, but by now, it's Iroh and I think waterbender actually fits better.
    I just found this channel yesterday, and I'm currently, almost finished binging everything on it, but this craft is probably my favorite.
    Everyone can put something on top of a shelf, but making a diorama that goes under it?
    That's something you don't see every day. ^^
    And it brought back some old memories.

    Your work is sooo inspiring. I have a small kid and i really hope to teach him about reusing and repurposing old toys or other recycable materials with projects like that. Keep up the amazing work!
    Oh, and maybe you could use thin wires to place Appa in a more dynamic pose and cover it with hot glue so it looks like "air streams",like a flying effect! Just an idea.
    Again, you are AMAZING!

    Omg. It looks amazing. This is the best thing I have seen on TH-cam. 😭😭😭
    I grew up with Avatar the Last Airbender. It is the best show ever been created. Even today I still draw wisdom from it.
    My favorite person in the show is Katara. Growing up, I actually love Toph the best, but as I got older I learnt to appreciate Katara more. It's so difficult to do all the things she does and it is very lucky to have someone like her in your life. 😭😭😭
    My favorite episode would of course be, the best episode of the entire show: 1-11, the Great Divide! 😂😂😂
    Jk. It's Sozin's Comet 4 parters. Also I love 1x12 the storm, 1x13 the blue spirit, 1x20 seige of the north 2, 2x2 cave of 2 lovers, 2x7 Zuko alone, 2x9 the Bitter work, 2x11 the desert, 2x15 Tale of Ba Sing Se, 3x1 awakening, 3x6 Avatar and the firelord, 3x11 to 3x17.

    As one crafter to another the yarn gluing on the roofs may have been faster if you would've measured how long of pieces u needed for each roof and cut them a head of time or just cut a bunch of piece around the same length a little longer than u think you need and cut a whole bunch out so you can put a bunch of the glue lines down and place the yarn down quickly and then just trim the extra yarn off after everything was done and try

    • @MechanicalFiend
      @MechanicalFiend  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest, the problem wasn't really that it took longer that way, it was simply that there were so many roofs to do it on haha! I think it would have been about the same time no matter what way I did it since all the roofs were completely different sizes. The main reason I did it this way is because there would be no waste! Really appreciate the tip though, will keep it in mind for the future~
