Here's one...I actually bought "You Give Love A Bad Name" as a .45 (the B-Side was "Raise Your Hands"). Almost wore the grooves off that one before I picked up "Slippery When Wet" on cassette (which I literally did wear out, and had to buy a second copy of, much like Appetite For Destruction and The Black Album).

Ahhhh, yes.... cassettes. That was my media format of choice back then, mind you CDs had not come out yet OR they had but I dismissed them as a marketing scheme to trick people into buying their music all over again. I came to find out it was worth it.
I bid goodbye to the cassette, largely for the reasons you cited : wearing out, getting eaten/chewed up by tape decks, etc... I was (and still am) a "custom mix" guy so I always made my own blank mixes/copies to prolong the life of my store-bought albums, but caveats still persisted - like running out of tape by a lous few seconds. I was NOT someone who would tolerate a cut-off song ; I'd find a song that would fit, or if that failed, leave that last 3-4 mins of tape blank. Ugh. What a nightmare.
Thank crikey for CDs, and the godsend of mixtape recording, the MiniDisc (MD). Sadly, the latter was poorly marketed due to Sony's stupidity and it fell out of favor once that accursed MP3 came along. Most physical media did, but vinyl made a comeback, cassettes seem to be as well, CDs kept hanging on by a thread and also may make a huge comeback, but I especially hope the MD is resurrected.

This was the big come back for the band. They went on hiatus after the New Jersey tour finished with Jon going off and doing his first solo album, Blaze of glory and Richie with his first album Stranger in this town.
When they came back with this in 1992 the whole music landscape had changed with the rise of grunge and they really were not sure how well the record would do, or whether they could still perform in huge stadiums etc. The reception in the USA was lukewarm, but in Europe, and especially the UK they were still a massive success (and Japan I think). They booked a tour way in advance of the album and played smaller venues (went from Wembley stadium to to Wembley arena) as they did not think they would sell tickets like they used to, and the Wembley gig sold out almost immediately. Because of this they booked a date later in the year at Milton Keynes bowl which is a stadium sized venue, and sold that out as well.
Their career started to pick back up in the USA after the whole grunge movement slowed down and they have been one of the biggest selling recording artists ever since, even though they now only play middle of the road house wives choice style music.
Alec John Such was BJ bassist at the time, but he was an extreme alcoholic so rarely recorded with the band and Hugh McDonald (the guy who ended up replacing him) would play most of his bass parts on albums.

It's great to hear you appreciate Bon Jovi. I have all their albums, and like you mentioned, I also love how they seamlessly transition between rock and ballads while maintaining their unique spirit. If you haven't listened to it yet, try "Dry County"-the lyrics are powerful, and Richie's guitar solo is incredible, not to mention the drum building in the middle of it.. It's one of their best tracks, in my opinion.

Although to be fair, he hadn't played on any of the albums for a while. The bass on this is more than likely Hugh. Alec was a raging alcoholic and really only played with the band live due to being drunk so much.

      @caphowdy666 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@thanasisanagnopoulos9265 There is plenty of information out there. Jon did not think he played bass well enough and was always drunk. Alec only played bass on the first two albums (except Runaway) and Hugh McDonald played bass on everything else, but without credit until Alec left. As Alec was officially part of the band and toured with the band, he was always credited as recording on the albums even though he did not. The reason the bass sounds the same is it was the same guy playing it. It just was not Alec.

When this video was first released. I was very surprised by the appearance of Jon's new hair. Very fresh, macho but still rockstar way. As if it made the rock stars of that era look outdated.
It cannot be denied that Jon is like a pioneer of a new hairstyle for '90s rockstars.
And it seemed that was the case, not long after when the Firehouse personnel shortened their hair in the Live My Life For You clip which was very popular a year later.
And the rockstar shortened hair trend continues with the appearance of Eddie Van Halen in the Don't Tell Me clip, who surprisingly cuts his hair so short that he looks like a Spike model.
And since then the trend of big long hair rock band accompanied by its music genre has begun to disappear from world music charts.
What makes sad is...I WAS THERE.
Now I just hope to be like today's young people who only know that in the past there were lots of good songs.
Those who didn't experience the sad moment of leaving that era, made me feel as if the music industry had stopped.
This year I'm 44 years old.. and it's still hard to move on... 🥲🥲🥲

Hello Bisscute, fascinating song and performance by Bon Jovi, Keep The Faith at his best. The theme, despite being more than 30 years old, is still relevant, with a fart message, full of hope and perseverance to face difficult times while maintaining faith, courage and determination. Jon Bon Jovi gives a very emotional and powerful vocal performance, the vocal harmonies are quite good, the bass, guitar and drums are outstanding. Your reaction is totally on point. I would like to suggest for a next reaction, to the return of the band Linkin Park and its new vocalist Emily Armstrong, with the song The Emptiness Machine. Greetings from Mexico City.

I feel like Bon Jovi had kind of disappeared for a while. When they released this comeback album, it was a new look, and a new sound. I really liked this song at the time.

It was May 7th, 1989. Pullman Washington, home of the Washington State cougars.
The opening band had finished up and the lights got turned down. A fog machine was generating fog and you could hear sounds that sounded like lightning. There were flashes of light. It sounded like a storm was coming.
The start of this song on the album and when they performed it live sounded like an orchestra preparing, odd sounds that weren't choreographed, like they were playing their instruments getting ready.
It got quiet. Bon Jovi came on and talked to us, and then they started singing the chorus. Lay your hands on me repeatedly and then when the music kicked in, Jon Bongiovi shot from under the stage 5 ft into the air through the cloud of fog and the crowd erupted into the loudest roar I have ever heard in my entire life. I can still feel it 35 years later. It was of Epic proportions.
Later in the set, the spotlight shined on my ex-wife, her long waist length, blonde hair. He's saying I'll be there for you to my ex-wife. It was a pretty extraordinary evening.

That was "Lay Your Hands on Me". Keep the Faith didn't come out until 1992. No less amazing tho. I saw same show in Niagara Falls, NY 2 months later. July, 1989.

OHHH yeah Biss... I knew you'd like this one.
And Jon Bon was a top dude back in the same time that Danzig was.
Both are great.... But Jon Bon - and Sambora on Git - got this beat dead on.
    Plus I like the message.

'Keep the faith' was released in 1992 and it was the album where Jon Bon Jovi first appeared w/ short hair... I believe this was in response to the 90's as grunge rock bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam... Bon Jovi was perceived as an 80's 'hair band' and Jon wanted to break away from that scene and appeal to 90's audiences. They got rid of the big hair, colorful outfits... and they made their image more casual. They also changed their sound away from the 80's arena rock.
It worked... Bon Jovi was one of the few 80's bands that had platinum selling albums in the 90's and they continued to tour arenas, even though 'Keep the faith' sold considerably less (2x platinum) in '92... Bon Jovi's 1988 album 'New Jersey' sold 7x platinum. It was also the last album to feature original Bon Jovi bassist Alec John Such, who was fired in 1995... they said he was struggling to play live and in the studio.
Bon Jovi released a rather mellow album 'These days' in 1995... it sold platinum in the US but the band decided to go on hiatus in 1996 to focus on other projects... They finally returned in 2000 w/ the album 'Crush' and scored a major hit "It's my life"... vastly different from their 80's records.

Many good artists got drowned out in the 80’s, 90’s so much good music during that time and new artists had an uphill battle to make a name with these bigger artists around.
