First look at the Camair 480 Twin Navion in Microsoft Flight Simulator

- The developer behind the Camair 480 Twin Navion approached me last night to showcase his work so far on the aircraft in Flight Simulator - so here we are! I take it for a circuit around Wycombe Air Park in the UK, and find out how it flies, how it looks, and where there is room for improvement.
For a lone, amateur developer to have built this as a first project is quite amazing really. It will be good to see how it progresses in the future!

Before anybody mentions it - yes, I know I didn't switch the NAV lights on :)
not noticed was paying attention to the whole video and a very good one at that. right I'm off to bed got some volunteering to do at the local food bank tomorrow. I also look forward to someone reviewing Update 13 before I take the plunge.
I never realized this was a one-person development team. Honest very well done considering and i love flying this plane. Furthermore, he chose such a unique aircraft for his first ever submission to MSFS. He could have easily gone with something easier, but chose something no other developer has done. Cudos to him and i look forward to more.

@@thesn00tyfox I'm actually working on a few more liveries this week and I will be sure to include a couple with a more vintage look. If you have the PC version I do have some liveries available on my website. One in fact is quite a mess, like it just got pulled out a swamp or something 😉

I've had this for a while and it's such good fun to fly. Kudos to the developer I never realised it was a one-person team, they put a lot of other established developers to shame with how well this is done. This will definitely be a developer to watch out for!
Is it a payware? Or freeware?
It's quite amazing that a self-taught developer is doing this. Yes, modeling-wise it might not be at the standard MSFS quality but otherwise it's a more than commendable effort. Looking forward to updates to this. Kudos to the person developing it!
The majority of the small-medium devs for MSFS are self taught, us (Big radials), being an example of that, DC Designs too, Cockspur, Lionheart, FSW etc.
So far it looks pretty good, and I agree that the engine sounds are nice. To the developer - just keep going!

I was waiting for you to review this plane but I purchased it when it was recently discounted in the marketplace. The GTN 750 works well in it and it has WTT (Working Title Technology) natively so no additional package is required. The older autopilot is not completely coordinated with the GTN 750 like the steam gauged planes but it works well. I love the look of this era. Thanks for the history of the developer. I didn't know that. I hope you fly this again and give it a more thorough review. Thanks.
I bought this aircraft a few weeks ago and I'm really enjoying flying it, which is 90% of my criteria for judging an aircraft. Currently my goto choice for a twin.
As saying goes you need start somewhere and looking at it it’s a great start. One of the great things with simming is you can see these quirky planes. Gratz to DEV keep up good work. And thx for taking time to fly this plane. It’s easy to pick nice planes and review them. Is more open approach is why your channel is very interesting and watchable
That's a cool looking aircraft. And I think the modeling looks very nice considering. I'm guessing the future looks bright for this developer. 😊👍

This plane with it's cool looks and twin engines caught my eye weeks ago. I just hadn't bought it yet, was busy building a new PC. However, you can bet i will get it and it will be on my channel.
Great to see an - unknown aircraft - . It is more common to do a Cessna/Piper as first project ( or a fighter for money makers).
Love the look, and flight model seems to be OK. Except the takeoff. Seems to be the old msfs default jump up in the air.
Good luck to developer. Hope the finish touch will be up to standard we are spoiled with today.

The Wycombe Air Park scenery is great, isn't it.
It was built by North American...who developed the P-51 Mustang. Note that the original Navion and this twin-Navion has the same tail shape as the P-51.

Nice..very nice. I have no problem accepting a model of this sort. If he will continue to make the rare and vintage type airplanes, I think he will have no problems at all. I am impressed. I flew a Ryan Navion many years ago, It was surely different, and the Military pilots liked it. Looking forward to his advancement.
Nice looking plane. I've had it on my wishlist for a while. Unfortunately it doesn't really fill a new niche but I do love twin prop planes.

I've seen this aeroplane advertised but these days I prefer not to buy without seeing some sort of review, so I understand the developer wanting to get it "out there". Having seen your review, I have to think this is pretty good. Yes, there are some graphical issues but they aren't major and fortunately I am blessed with a good imagination so I can choose to see or not see some things. For me the important question is "how does it fly?" and it seems to fly quite well so I think I may well give it a try. Oh, in terms of the post war aircraft design, I can almost imagine a pair of 20mm auto cannons just where the landing lights are lol. Thanks heaps for the video.
Had my first flight in this aeroplane today and what a pleasure it was to fly. I didn't expect the full range of mod cons such as auto pilot but it is all there. I'll be flying this one a lot.

I just purchased a BW635RG from Orbx, followed the check list, making sure I was on the right position for some of the buttons , and still cannot get it to fly. Any suggestions?

The Navion single, back in the day we all called “terrible”, so the twin was “double terrible, or double trouble”!! Haha)
I’ve flown the single Navion, they used to be around quite a lot back in the day. The twins were much more scarce. But anyway, the single was like flying a box! haha. Big, bulky, underpowered, slow, and an easy to overload death trap for new pilots unable to do a proper weight and balance before take off. The reason being, they were so roomy, you could fill it full of people and stuff, and greatly exceed its max weight… Easily!
All that said, it’s interesting to see someone made that plane instead of so many others. 🙂
PS*. In the real world you would never have any flaps extended to take off at that airport.
When I read about it I was amazed at how many were made - something in the region of 5000, all together.
