    Please Please NEVER stop making videos! You are amazing at teaching. Please teach my Professor how to teach! He can't "dumb" it down enough for me to understand him. Who knew there was such an amazing Professor on TH-cam sharing the knowledge in a way that is so understandable. I wish I can take your class instead! THANK YOU!!!!

    May i ask since there are three letters, why did you write four t's and four f's? does this mean odd is not allowed?

    • @LearnYouSomeMath
      @LearnYouSomeMath  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      each variable you add doubles the amount of rows you need. 2 variables = 4 rows, 3 variables = 8 rows, 4 variables = 16 rows, etc. So in the 3 variable case, you have 8 rows, and for any of the 3 variables, half of the entries will be T and half F. Hope that helps.

    Hi! I'm talking to someone who is interested in learning methods of demonstrating propositions are false by definition (logically impossible) or true by definition. I'm planning to share truth tables with him for this purpose, but I'm a little rusty. Can you tell me if I am making a mistake or missing something relevant?
    When all the rows of a column have an F in them, like the column for 'P and ~P', that demonstrates the proposition is logically impossible. What it's showing us is that there's no possible truth value assignment to its sub-propositions (or 'variables') where all are true at the same time, because whenever one is assumed true, another is implied to be false.
    Then I'd like to say a similar thing for columns with only T, like 'P or ~P', being demonstrated true by definition.

    • @LearnYouSomeMath
      @LearnYouSomeMath  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yup, that sounds right. If you want to throw around jargon, those cases are referred to as a contradiction and a tautology, respectively.

    please can you tell how to write truth table for four variables (p,q,r,s) please.

    • @LearnYouSomeMath
      @LearnYouSomeMath  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      write the 3 variable table with Q R and S, then make an exact copy of it right beneath your original copy. For the top copy, put T for all of the entries for P. In the bottom copy, but F for all of the entries of P. Hope that helps!

    • @HeyHeyHarmonicaLuke
      @HeyHeyHarmonicaLuke 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another method, is to think of it as counting in binary. You just convert 0's to True and 1's to False (or vice versa, it doesn't matter). This method will work for any number of variables :)
      What's zero in binary? That's your first row. 00000
      What's one in binary? That's your second row. 00001
      Then 00010, 00011, 00100, etc.
      Continue until you have all variables as 1. (or, F)

    • @LearnYouSomeMath
      @LearnYouSomeMath  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HeyHeyHarmonicaLuke This is really clever. Thanks for posting. You could also extend it to define "and" and "xor". If T is 1 and F is 0, "and" is just multiplication in binary, and xor is just addition in binary, mod 2.
