    This lecture introduces truth tables, an algorithmic method used to determine the truth value of complex statements. We begin with the basic algorithm and cover a brief example. The remaining lectures in this unit will cover more complex truth tables.

    Alright alright. I am in logic right now and I'm trying to find outside sources bc my prof is terrible and my class is only 8 weeks long... STRUGGLING HARD CORE RIGHT NOW. 😭
    UPDATE: i have been watching all of these videos and so far... these tiny short little 4-6 minute videos have legit taught me more than my entire logic text book i paid a couple hundred dollars for. or my prof in which i had to pay around 1,500 dollars to take the course. SO THANK YOU MR. WILLIAM SPANIEL A RANDOM TA I FOUND ON TH-cam WHEN SEARCHING "LOGIC FOR DUMMIES" lolol! you are the hero we didn't know we needed.

    I watch this and realize that this is something that I studied when I took engineerring back in the day and we called it a Boolean expression. It would be represented by using symbols and logic to make graphical icons called logic-gates that allow you to visualize the flow of logic in a different sort of way. You could check those out, as it might make understanding this easier. I had my answer in about two seconds as I scan through that logic tree as he was rattling off why it worked or the method in which he uses. I would listen, noticing all the while that he was explaining what I had already learned. Because, when I look at it using the way that I learned it, the intuitive logic behind the way it is represented allows me to immediately see what is being asked. What an incredible epiphany! Logic rules the world. And is ultimately the way to understand what the true meaning of life is. Good job guys. Keep up the good work.

    I'm not sure if it was the format or something else, but when I began watching this video I was so lost and unsure of the correct way to approach this problem. However when you showed the example which previews the #12 example in the next video it all came together for me, and I finished the #12 problem before the next video started and got it all correct! Something in your explanation made it click, thank you so much.

    How do you know whether it is true or false? Im studying for a Midterm and I completely do not understand.

    • @ewausarek7061
      @ewausarek7061 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well, you don't need to know, because you are considering every single case - what if p is true, and q is false? what of both are true, or both are false? etc, etc. that's why the truth table is so useful, because you could write down all the options and consider it step by step

  • @dorisortiz1356

      You already use logical problem solving everyday. One could deduce (hah) that understanding how and why these logical connections are made, as well as getting used to solving more complicated examples, could only lead to better problem solving.

    Is the first argument
    ~ ( P ^ Q ) ^ R
    only true when P(F), Q(F), R(T) ?

    • @KTC88
      @KTC88 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      P&Q do not both need to be false, only one of the two needs to be false. Excluding the R variable for now, the statement can only be false if both P and Q are true. In other words, the statement can remain true as long as P^Q is false. To dismantle a conjunction statement, all we need to do is prove that one of the two variables is false. The other may be true or false, either works. Therefore, the overall statement is true when: 1. R is true, and 2. Between P and Q, at least one is false.

    • @ayahomer5899
      @ayahomer5899 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ken Croker But the statement says and, and mean both of them, meaning P AND Q should both be true or false and R will have the opposite sign, there's no "or" to indicate the possibility of having one of (P^Q) false.. so for the statement ~(P^Q)^R to be true, there are 2 possibilities: 1) ~(P^Q)^R "obviously" 2) (P^Q)^~R
