    I think there are so very many headphones on the market now that are worthwhile, that a miss like this can just be forgotten. On the other hand, it would definitely be fun to see exactly how you tore something apart, what you found, and what you did, with pictures, video and explanation, and where you get materials.

    I love this headphone and it's become one of my favorites. I mainly only listen to electronic music and most of it doesn't have any vocals but the ones that do don't sound sibilant to me. I've always disliked bright headphones and I hated the DT990 Pro I used to have but I love the AP2000ti and maybe now that I'm older I'm not as bothered by bright headphones as I once was.

      I didnt find the AP2000TI all that bright either. Might be because Im used to my Grado RS2i and Denon AHD 9200. Also borrowed an Ultrasone 10 before and that thing was truly unbearably bright.

  • @dillonsaudio
    @dillonsaudio 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    @DMS
    I think what you might be experiencing is a high level of audibly transparent performance. It is probably just a very revealing headphone. Accurate speakers and headphones reveal flaws in recordings and source material effortlessly. The more accurate the gear is, the worse it will sound with top notch gear if the recording itself is problematic. On that same token, inferior gear with glaring problems will have no place to hide with really good reference headphones....so the headphones will immediately highlight technical flaws in amplifiers, DACs, and CD players etc.
    Therefore, I think the ATH-2000 ti must be an excellent headphone in terms of technical performance. I find your review to be a bit weird compared to what others are saying about it. Such a colossal failure from a reputable brand like AT at this price point seems highly unlikely. And if you listen to high end speakers that offer really accurate sound, you will find most of them to be bright- because what they used in the studio was not capable of rending the treble resolution that was already present. It gets covered up by other colorations...even though what they're using purports to be "reference grade."
    I will ask audio technica about this headphone and what their intentions were when developing it for further clarification.

    • @DMS3TV
      @DMS3TV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That can definitely be the case sometimes, but I can assure you in this case it's just a bad and extremely bright headphone. Not a case of the recording in this one. Its just heavily boosted in the treble. As much as I hate to reference measurements, they confirm it pretty heavily. Since making this video I got a proper measuring rig and is shows a 15db jump in treble.
      Publications will write a glowing review of anything these days I feel like.

      @avishekghatak2176 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MuhammadKharismawan interesting. I tried a m70x once (just got an impression not the full picture) and liked the the overall sound but the treble felt a little too harsh. To me, the msr7 is tamer with the treble but more forward upper mids. Maybe it’s also because it’s got a bit more mid bass as well. I also think the sound stage is wider on the msr7 (but I could be wrong).

    • @MuhammadKharismawan
      @MuhammadKharismawan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@avishekghatak2176 no for me the soundstage is deeper on the M70x that and probably specifically for me, my ear's sensitivity just fits the M70x better, because even tho yes the Treble is super high on the M70x, I feel its also flat ie for me it is hill-like in perceived freq response and not peaky.
      Don't take me wrong tho I do like the MSR7, I prefer it over the MSR7 limited edition and Balance version, both of which I feel are intentionally made tamer and balanced than the original, why didn't I pick it then? Well its just I have other headphones so the unique presentation of the M70x appeal to me more, its just an acoustic music and detail king for under 250usd. I literally can't think of a more detailed headphone for that price. I mean it rival my Beyer T1 on that aspect alone and that's something.

    Hmm, treble murder. Send them to Zeos. He’ll probably wind up testing the durability of the titanium then sell them in a yard sale. I wouldn’t bother modding them. As far as I can tell the WP900 uses a similar driver and is less expensive. I would describe the bass and mids as you described this headphone’s, but I don’t ever find the WP’s treble over the top. For reference, I find my DT1990 a bit sibilant at times.

  • @18yearsoldnot
    @18yearsoldnot 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have the earsuit version, and hated it too, but now I have the mojo2 and am really loving this headphone by lowering the treble with -5b in the 3k region with the "lossless eq" feature. Mojo2 is a must buy if you are treble sensitive like me. But yeah... these audio technicas are definitely tuned by an old person (and by ear). I did actually get mild tinnitus around the time I bought these so maybe I've lost my hearing a bit since then. As a result I only really listen to smooth and dark sounding headphones these days, with hd 6xx being my favourite, and B&o h6 wired to my mojo2 when on the go. Now interested in the neumann ndh20 but they seem to be hated by many reviewers apart form Zeos who loves them. Side note - I think Zeos knows what he is talking about. He recommended the B&O h6 and yes, they need a bit of a bass boost in the eq (which he also pointed out to be fair...) but from there, they are tuned really nicely out of the box and have good isolation. I hope the neumanns are similar to them.

  • @Hmkls
    @Hmkls 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Why put anything (foam, felt whatever) in front of the driver? It literally messes up the sound waves from the drivers. Needless to say, if you put a foam insert it doesn't just veil the treble but the ENTIRE spectrum. There is a reason why you never see foam inserts on a high resolution headphone whether it's Abyss, Hifiman or estats. You reduce treble sure, but you are degrading the rest of the sound in order to achieve it.
    Some the issue with this headphone might be the titanium driver housing causing resonance, might be better to start modding there, and then maybe EQ

    Mod em
    Try to open the cup and get to the driver back. Get out the dempening of the driver, also foam one in bass "hole", also try to change pads:)
    Try velvet/fabric pads, and make sure they are not very high(2.5 cm max) if the foam is hard, or medium if it has memory foam and squeezes while you ware them. The point is to make your ear as close to the driver as possible and amp sound pressure, also to undempen the driver to lower high freq and amp mid and base.
    Try out some, sure you will get em to sound OK, good luck!

    Considering these are over $1000 and are this bad, on top of it all you need to invest time and money to “maybe” be able to mod them. #Horrible pair of headphones and shame on Technica for putting them out.
    From what you are saying, they should have never made it to market in this condition.
    Uncomfortable
    Horrible Sound
    $1000+
    = NO WAY
    Thanks for video bud and I’m sure I’ll see you in the next one. Until then... stay safe & happy listening

    it is mad how crazy subjective this headphone game is as I tried those cans in a shop in Japan a couple of years ago and I absolutely loved them. It doesn't surprise me as I get the feeling that some audio technica headphones are really bright and the treble isn't to everyone's taste

    • @jamesbittle469
      @jamesbittle469 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Japanese audiophiles tend to like a more counter-clockwise sound signature.

    • @sameermana2003
      @sameermana2003 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamesbittle469 it's definitely an acquired taste. Me personally... I like it although I'm 42 and probably less sensitive to treble than others ... although I've seen other reviews of these headphones and this is the first "negative" one I've seen. But people have their own preferences...

      @@sameermana2003 For sure. I have been auditioning portable/closed-backed headphones and recently tried the ATH-MSR7b. Even those were a little too bright for my taste. Even though I am 50 years old, I think I am still a little treble sensitive.

      @@jamesbittle469 I have the original Ath msr7 not the balanced version and me personally, I really like the sound signature of it although my main closed backs are the elegias which again is an acquired taste...but I used to have a pair of night owls which are the exact opposite but no less enjoyable

      @@sameermana2003 I didn't love the Elegias either. Haha. I haven't had much luck finding a pair of portable/closed-back headphones that I like. I have big ears so most headphones are uncomfortable. The Dan Clark Aeons are the most comfortable I've tried, but they are hard to drive with portable devices.
