    The RB30 was always a 3.0 (in the name, RB30) and was put in a couple Nissans (R31 Skyline being one it was in) and the VL Holden Commodore in Australia. In the Holden it was offered as either NA or turbocharged, which was pretty neat at the time for an Australian car.

    • @mrclown7469
      @mrclown7469 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep. Holden had exclusive rights to the RB30ET (sohc turbo 3L), people often confuse that as exclusive rights to the RB30E (sohc 3L non-turbo).

    • @kerrostalde8111
      @kerrostalde8111 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And the RB30E in the VL made less power than in the 31 due to emissions and tuning. Nissan did a turbo RB30 in a limited run of seven white cop cars, i believe.

      also the rb30 was a single overhead cam, perhaps the blocks were swappable too

    Matt, you are a braver man than I. There's no way I'd take some dude's project car with a non-functioning tach or boost controller in an hodge podge engine and be comfortable pushing it. You can't even go by engine noise to know shift points because what is redline even.

    The engine is not found in an r32/3/4 stock. Its not an RB26DETT stroked to 3.0 liters. Its an RB30E block that only came in R31s and VL commodores in Australia and stroked to 3.4 liters. To be honest i think this is quite a difference in spec and would appreciate if these were accurately mentioned in the video. Still a great video and build regardless!

    Boring out the 2.6L to a 3.0l is pretty crazy on the stock rb26 block as now you'll risk overheating as now the gap is decreased between each cylinder. Cylinder 3-4 will always run the hottest no matter what compared to 1,2 and 5,6. But if you get it right you got alot more air volume entering and more throttle response. Slightly less turbo lag. But I hope whoever built this setup dialed out everything correctly, and took into account the additional heat generated and has a good additional cooling system running. I would only personally bore it out to a 2.8L but the quest for power always makes ppl crazy

    Matt the RB30 came from the R31 Skyline and Vl Commodore from Australia, the 20/25/26 were in the 32/33/34 chassis. Commonly the twin cam head from a 25 or in this case a 26 is used. Im sure you knew this and it was a mispeak.

He can’t be an aficionado for everything. Like someone else said, if you buy an engine based off of one persons word it’s not their fault. People can make mistakes.

    Rb30’s go hard, not a skyline motor but are pretty common down here in nz to put them in skylines and such to make big numbers waaay cheaper than 26dett however when you get up higher in the power the 30e blocks are weaker than 26dett blocks (less ribs, weaker mains style and such)

    • @stavyone
      @stavyone 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a skyline motor you moron it's out of the r31 skyline ! And a patrol ! The Aussies bought these engines from Japan ! As if Australia could design and build a motor like an rb30 !

  • @FukU2222
    @FukU2222 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    RB30s aren't from a Skyline. The RB26DETT would be, but the RB30 (bottom end) is a common swap in aus as that was one of the only markets that had on offer. At any rate, I suppose it technically could swing both ways.

    From my knowledge RB30 only came in R31 Skylines, GQ Patrols, and VL Commodores (if you're Aussie). They were a single cam motor, most of them being N/A. This one I assume is a RB26/30 hybrid where the RB30 short block is used with the RB26 head but that was never a combination used in a factory car.

    @DOZDDMGator 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    This is a stroked rb26 not an rb30. The rb30 was meant for the r31 skyline, holden only used it because they couldnt build an engine to conform with new emission regulations so they dumped it in the commodore which wasent designed for it resulting in issues like cracked heads from air bubbles forming in the head because the radiator sat lower than in the skyline. In australia only the VL got a turbo version but in japan the skyline also got a turbo. Another thing to note back when it came out the top of the line model skyline with power steering, air con, leather interior etc was still cheaper than the base commo with none of those things

      @mrclown7469 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No it isn't. Read the video description, like multiple people have told you to do, instead of listening to Matt's confused explanation.
      It is a 3.4L stroker. You cannot do that with an RB26 block. You need to use the RB30 block because it's taller. It then has an RB25/26 head, because the RB30 only came in SOHC.

    Btw..this swap is unique...usually it's either RB26, 2JZ, LS or SR20, but RB30 stroked to 3.4l and using RB26 head? That's cool

    Rb30 is a 30e bottom end with a 25de top end and 26dett hot side. det heads don't work as the valves hit the top of the pistons.

    Thems some big ole turbskies in there. Sounds like he has a Nitto stroker kit, which is good for 4 figure power levels very easily, so 600hp is barely breaking a sweat for that thing

    Thats a RB26/30. twin cam RB26 head on a RB30 Short block. The RB30 is single cam and doesn't breath anywhere near as well.

    I wonder if we're going to see builds like this as often now that the R32 is legal?

    Not my favorite car, seems like it needs a lot of dialing still as far as grip and handling goes. Still like the idea of it a lot, I know they can be made into good grip cars. Right now I feel a lot more emphasis was on power than control and handling. Still I like it and it can definitely still be really good. Cool beans Matt.

      Half assed built. Anything I'd lend Matt Farah, ESPECIALLY if it represented my business, would be finished before being handed over for a video.

    So is it an RB30 or a stroked and bored RB26?
    Nevermind, found it. RB30 block stroked to 3.4 with RB26 head.
