Thank you Mrs Davis for giving Sammy to us. Without you he would have never existed and without him and we would never have had the pleasure of his presence in our lives and his talent. Thank you so much!!❤❤
Mother Davis is so beautiful and engaging. Lovely speaking voice, and when she talks about " my child" this, and "my child" that. Mother clearly loved her son, and is still very proud of him and what he left us. Talent and love, is what Sammy Davis, Jr.
This is not a studio interview- it's unedited raw footage which we shot for our 1999 A&E Biography of the Rat Pack... which won the Primetime Emmy for Sound Mixing. It was also nominated for Picture Editing and Best Nonfiction Series.
@GENERAL DISARRAY'S BOSS 83 Are you serious? This is raa footage thT people are knit picking left and right. The completed project was wonderful. Theres nothing wrong with telling the awards this project won. For petes sake.
@@chevydude658 Thank you so much! All we wanted to do was to share the raw footage with the world... I guess that no good deed goes unpunished... Blessings to you and yours.
I loved her statement: " I knew Count Basie BEFORE he was Count Basie". An older person who tells it like it is, or was......we need more like this Lady.
+bullfranthrow Thanks for tuning in and taking time to comment! We actually shot the interview over two days- a couple of hours each day... Luke Sacher Videographer of the interview
+bullfranthrow Most kind of you! That sure would be a terrific idea. We were going to interview her when we shot this interview for our 1999 A&E bio of the Rat Pack, but we ran out of production funds... we do have footage of Sam and May's news interview on their wedding day, but we barely used any of it in the final cut...
soapbxprod Hi SoapbxProd, you and your colleague got some of the most important, and true information on Sammy Davis' life. You both were so great with Ms. Davis. Elvera lived a long, very interesting life. If you've already developed your documentary, or wrote a book, please let us know. Sammy Davis Jr.'s talent is timeless. He never went out of fashion. Sammy was, and still is, one of the greatest entertainers in the 20th Century. My parents saw Sammy at the Circle Star Theatre. I have a story that my parents told me and Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis Jr. My parents saw Sammy Davis Jr. In the early 80's at the Circle Star. During that same time period, Frank Sinatra was booked at the Circle Star Theatre. Probably about 3 months AFTER Sammy performed. My parents got tickets for Sinatra. However, several days before the show, the theatre cancelled Sinatra's performance. The reason was that they couldn't even sell half the tickets. Sinatra couldn't book a venue, and sell out. That's why Sinatra did the famous Rat Pack concerns with Dean, and Sammy. Then, Dean dropped out and Sinatra brought Aliza onto the tour. Sinatra needed Sammy Davis Jr. to sell to concert tickets, and having Liza on the tour solidified getting sold out shows. Sammy Davis Jr. was also a huge supporter of the Equality movement centered in the South. All my best, Carmen San Francisco
And she was absolutely correct, he was from Red Bank NJ. You see where Sammy got his fire 🔥 from and the show biz and dancing from his Dad and "Uncle Will"
Dear VO team, you have amazing content with Ms. Davis' stories, and knowing the truth during Sammy's life. This is probably the most important content, on Sammy Davis, Jr. That being said, please do something with this. Or if you have, please share if it was video or book. Great work. Cheers, Carmen San Francisco
It’s so funny how the interviewer is telling her to kind of rehearse what she’s going to show us of the jewelry pieces, but yet they didn’t edit any of this!! 😂 I’am also surprised that she hasn’t told them , that she’s had enough of this interview! They kept interrupting her !! I kept wanting for her to go off on them with all the times she had to start over !!😅
Luke, Pallie..just noticed you shot the interview with Mrs. Davis on May 15. Sammy died on my birthday, May 16. I have good friend, a comic, that was Sammy's opener for some years. He has some great stories..including being the "beard" when Sammy went out in public with white gals.
Hi Paul! I've got a box full of Confidential and Top Secret and Whisper magazines with articles about Sammy and Kim and Liz Taylor... he was the Black Mickey Rooney? A little guy, but great in the sack? :) I missed the HBO Sinatra show last night by Alex Gibney- that guy tried to rip off both me and my buddy "CB" (on Facebook) for our footage and interviews... we'll talk inside FB about it... ugh...
I wonder were Desi Arnaz and Sammy Davis Jr. ever friends? Did they every discuss their Cuban ancestry with each other in private with each other or in front their friends and family?

Del Cee yes, yes!
omg This would be a great video if the person recording would quit interrupting her. You really can't hear the traffic. The sound is fine.

So annoying and unprofessional how they make her repeat herself. Sammy's Mom has a lot of patience.
Too too many interruptions!
Great interview😊

Sammys mother was a jewel .......she loved her son.......and let him do his own thing not judging him on his life.
she is so calm and collected for someone her age. If that was Dick Gregory today he would have been snapped because of all these retakes lol.
+bullfranthrow Thanks for tuning in and taking time to comment! We actually shot the interview over two days- a couple of hours each day...

+soapbxprod Great interview. I checked out your channel, fabulous videos on there as well. Have you considered doing a video with May Britt?

Sweet , Jazzy Mom who loved her son dearly.
Baby I met count Basie before Count Basie was Count Basie!
Deneen Jeffries I loved that line!!
And she was absolutely correct, he was from Red Bank NJ. You see where Sammy got his fire 🔥 from and the show biz and dancing from his Dad and "Uncle Will"
LOL That one was the best of all
I wish she discussed her Cuban ancestry.
It wasn’t ancestry. Sammy said she was Puerto Rican and then after Sammy passed they started to say she was Cuban.
She died 3 years later so she was 92 here , looks pretty well indeed
God bless her.

Well Thank you so much! We did use some of our interview with her in our 1999 Biography of The Rat Pack for A&E.
So too bad the cameraman did not get a close up of the diamonds in that necklace. Geesh
LOL! That's me! Sorry for the oversight. We shot the interview in her apartment on 1st Avenue- Sammy bought it for her :)
It’s so funny how the interviewer is telling her to kind of rehearse what she’s going to show us of the jewelry pieces, but yet they didn’t edit any of this!! 😂 I’am also surprised that she hasn’t told them , that she’s had enough of this interview! ***** Haven't see the HBO show yet, plan to watch it tonight. "CB"?...we'll talk at FB.
Omg! My mother's birthday is on May 16th.
tallpaul521 wow, that’s neat!
Dynamic lady❤
This interviewer is the pits. They are very disrespectful to a 90 year old woman.
I was blessed to see the Rat Pack
They said they wouldn’t put certain parts on and they did! Sammy’s family should sue.
I wonder were Desi Arnaz and Sammy Davis Jr. ever friends? Did they every discuss their Cuban ancestry with each other in private with each other or in front their friends and family?
Abraham Isaac Mucius III great question
This is Cardi B 💯 in 70 years… love her
