- "The Duke" has been in Lewisville Lake for a bit, and it is time for a boat tour. We take a look at the Catalina 22 sailboat. Talk about the repairs I want to make and how much I paid.

This whole sailing journey started when I watched a video from Alternative Lifestyles. It features the crew from SV Delos and their journey of 10 years traveling around the world in their sailboat. I was hooked and am preparing myself to follow the same journey. I plan to learn how to sail, take my sailboat out and practice my sailing techniques, and eventually upgrade to a larger bluewater sailboat. The plan is to circumnavigate the world and do mission and relief work along the way.
And another one bites the dust...jk. Have fun fixing it up.
Ha, I assume you are referring to the joy AND the money pit!
Always remember slow is pro!
Lose the background music please. Totally unnecessary and intrusive. Thanks for the vid though.
I have a 1973 c-22. Clean yours up a bit and sail it... If you really like doing this, you will want a bigger boat. When that time comes, buy one that needs less work.
I'm currently fixing up a 78 Catalina 22. Good little boats to learn how to do all kinds of repairs on without costing a lot.
Who knew you could go sailing on a budget? I always thought it was just for rich people. Looking forward to some sailboat project videos.
Don't worry the tidal wave of money is coming! But yeah, it can be an affordable hobby.
Beautiful shots!! Congrats man!
good luck with your project. just subbed to watch the refit. I bought a spirit 23 in roughly the same condition for 1500. im starting a full refit as well. These little boats are pretty budget friendly. I'm going all out better than new for about $15k, boat trailer and all appliances. Id really like to see how the gel coat repairs go!
keep the handholds, you will need those while transiting the deck. for sure without lifelines.
I did the portlights on mine 1977 .
Got the kit from Catalina direct.
Dry bilge now. I also tented the glass with some tent from the auto parts store that was a great upgrade.
And that's easy to do while I had the glass out of the frame.
Good luck! Great boats!
I'm finding that my enthusiastic project list and reality might differ. I have not addressed the windows, fiberglass pop top, or teak.
I couldn't agree more about the boat itself. I love sailing a Catalina 22
Congrats!!! I hope all is well with you and The Duke. I just bought a 1976 C22 myself.... hull #6127. I am having a ton of fun with it. I know it's a year later but I hope you're doing well and enjoying your boat. Fair winds.....
James, congratulations on your Catalina 22! These boats are a blast to sail, I know you will love it. All is well, I'm working on getting more sail time in around life's busy schedule.
I could do without the background music. Nice vid. Nice boat
Thanks for the feed back. I'm still working out the right combination.
@@SailWithAMission no worries i feel when somone is trying to explain something to me there should be no music. If your just sailing than music is good.
cool boat
Thank you, you did an awesome job on your Catalina 22. I watched your window seal repair several times. th-cam.com/video/3pBVhQSSgZo/w-d-xo.html
Your white decks look really nice. Is the main sail blue cover from Catalina or custom as it looks really good? I hope you still have it now a year later and I will look to see how you did your windows. Thanks!!
Thank you, I believe those are a “factory” sail cover. I say factory meaning you should be able to find them at a place like Catalina Direct. They came with the boat so I’m not sure where they came from.
I sold the boat last year so I won’t be able to give any updates.
Thank you for watching.
Even with the little dings, the boat is in great shape, especially for a '77. What do you have to pull the boat while on a trailer? I'd get on those leaky windows quick. Catalina Direct will be your friend. Have fun with it!
Thank you. I pull the boat with a Ram 2500. I don't like the way the boat sits on the trailer so I have kept it in the lake since the launch. The trailer doesn't support the boat as much as I would like. I do have Catalina Direct on speed dial!
Good for you! I also think about sailing ALL THE TIME! I have a Cat 22 called "Jack's Off" Because Jacks off sailing.
Ha, gotta love boat names!
Nice vid! I'm doing the windows in my cat22 now. It a bitchy bitch! If I could do it again... I would do some price checking to have it done.
I am hearing this... @adventuresinparadise said the same thing. Any tips I can use?
Thank for sharing, I am at the beginning of your journey. Good Luck.
Thanks for reaching out. Best of luck on your journey. Fair winds - Eric
awesome man im in motion as well.
That's awesome, what goals are you working towards?
Just trying to make a simple good living somehow. Lessss gooooo
hello, I follow your channel, could you explain how you raise and lower the mast please, I want to learn how to do it alone
Hi Juan! I am not sure I am doing it right. I have raised and lowered the mast three times. I will be honest I do not like doing it, especially lowering the mast. I feel like things can get out of control.
I watched this video when I was starting out. th-cam.com/video/C5WdqdlB8Nc/w-d-xo.html this is the way I do it.
I simply raise my mast crutch in the back, use the jib halyard and main sheet to pull the mast up.
I wish you all the best and I hope this helps. If you have any questions please reach out I will do what I can to help.
-Eric
I would keep it original and refinish rails . Not that bad
There was some talk about redoing the wood. I am quickly approaching haul out time. We will see how ambitious I get. Thank you for watching - Eric
Are there any after market kitchenettes that fit inside the cabin?
I believe there are. I have used Catalina Direct for lots of my parts.
What month was your boat built
Sorry, I don’t remember. I do recall the plate on the transom didn’t have a full serial number. I had a little trouble getting it registered.
