Wait for them to work the kinks out... I was at the Barber vintage motorfest last month for the unveiling of the new GS and I had a chance to talk to the BMW reps. There is a ton of new tech. on this new bike. One thing I really dislike about the new 1300 is the absence of a tail light. That said, with all that new technology and the new engine with the tyranny now under the engine case, I would wait for all the kinks to show up and get worked out. The suspension is also completely new with auto lowering and spring load adjustment. There is a lot of stuff that could go south on this bike. You have a great bike. Hold on to it for another year or so and avoid a recall...
The 1250 makes sense economically but I think you’d feel like you’re treading water. The new tech on the 1300 sounds very nice (that center stand!). You could probably sell the wheels and tires separately if need be. If you bought this and maybe something that’s a real dirt bike (less expensive?) later, you’d be covered. GS + XR + Dirt Bike - Tuareg(?) = 😊. Good luck and enjoy the deliberations!
So many questions running through my mind! The XR brake light thing that you mentioned I think is a little bit weird myself. Not a fan of that. Melissa mentioned it also which I thought was interesting. I would say stay with a 1200, so set up already. I would say only option would be to get the 12:50 if you can find one perfect for the way you like the look of it etc. and the price point would have to be super excellent .... I would be trying to get in line for your1200 myself and secretly nudging you towards the 1250. But Melissa has told me I'm not allowed to have a BMW since I banned her from getting the s1000rr🤣.
I have exactly the same dilemma, as I currently own a 17.5 GS Rallye with almost exactly the same mileage (70,000 km here in Australia). And I love the Rallye blue colour scheme, and the bike is setup perfectly for touring. I also have the Vario luggage, and that is the most compelling reason to upgrade to a 1250 as the luggage can be carried over, so a lot of $ saved. But, the negative is that for all the upgrade costs the 1250 is VERY similar to the 1200, so not much gain for the substantial cost. So, I will likely just run the 1200 for another couple years till the 1300 is “bedded in”, and then make the decision as I’ll be much better informed at that stage. Thanks for the video.
I'm in a similar position with a '13 R1200GS. By the way, the wheelbase of 1300 is not shortened and cylinder heads are same height as 1250. I say go 1300 if money is no object. Our 1200s are going to take a big price hit I would think. 1250s should be discounted pretty nicely and all the accessories can carryover and in your case extra wheelset.
Its a NO-Brainer, my new R 1300 GS, should be in, AROUND Jan, Feb, Mar. I got the Trip Black, $28,000.worth of add ons, no regrets, I will break it in, change oil, and leave Billings Mt, and take the long way around, the USA, Jerry D.
If you have the 1200 then getting the 1250 makes no sense at all for too many reasons. I’d get the 1300. I just sold my 2016 R1200GS and put a deposit on the 1300. Now I’m flirting with the idea of the 2024 S1000XR. What’s your thoughts on the S1000XR?

Sounds like you’re in the exact same boat! Keep in touch And keep us updated on what you do! Cheers
I can personally attest to how nice your current 1200 is. Loved riding it a couple months back.
I'd be hard pressed to get rid of your 1200.
Couldn't agree more!
Or course! - Frank

If you can afford it, I hope you get one. 👌
How many times do I say "Significant" or "Significantly"?

Sounds like you've got quite the adventure ahead of you. Keep us in the loop on how it goes.

Stay tuned, we’re working on a video about the XR now that Doug’s owned it for a hot minute. Spoilers: it’s fast! 😂
NO.
No : wait the gs 1400 Adventure bmw will launch in the next
Keep the 1200 for another year. Let the new mules work the wrinkles out then you buy the 1300.
Wise words
Your speculations are worthless until you drive the new model. I had just as many doubts. Ride and put down a deposit on a new bike...
