If he used his full boost the blue shell wouldn't even be able to hit him
Wow this is way better than the old mario kart wii mod. He doesn’t seem to awardly teeter around and he own custom animations. I love how they gave him his unleashed drift animation. Chefs kiss

Pros and cons actually. The Wii version has some unique animations that I wasn't able to add into 8 due to limitations.
probably would have been better if they used the generations drift honestly, that already had a hop like mario kart drifts do

I also had moments of "wait, this isn't a _Sonic_ game!" But also, charging a spin dash absolutely could have been used as the animation for revving your engine in place, like at the start of a race.

Edit: For anyone seeing this in the future, I agree with most of your comments about animations he should have, but unfortunately I'm limited by what's hard-coded in MK8D. I've tried making a version over characters as they have a lot more animations, but ran into hard-coded issues there as well. Ultimately, this was the best solution.

My head cannon is that the week before, sonic wanted to race on foot but mario wouldn't let him, and they just argued about it, then on the day, sonic shows up like "oops, forgot my car, guess I'll just have to do it on foot" all sarcastically

Reminds me of the old flash animation of Sonic racing against Jet the Hawk. Jet knocks Sonic off his hoverboard and laughs thinking he's won, then Sonic starts running backwards faster than Jet can hover all while flipping him off.

I feel like for the gliding segments they could've had Tails help Sonic along, but other than that it is peak.
I had a nice idea for gliding, unfortunately, gliding, tricks, and "jumps" use the same exact animation so it'd look weird in practice.

Tails or Knuckles would be cool for a glider, but they might look a little stiff

Perhaps the bullet bills model could be changed to the boost aura when using it (or maybe Super Sonic, like Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing’s all star move).

If you think about it, every game has almost their independent story and most Kart games seem to be just because it's fun to race, it seems almost like a meta joke where the characters actually win money as if they're actors of their own games
I mean, Wario has a mountain, Daisy has a cruise, Rosalina has a planet, Waluigi has an entire giant pinball table lol

This mod could be made even better by swapping out certain sound effects.
Which sound effects specifically? I did my best to replace virtually everything related to the kart that isn't shared by other vehicles.
@@Insidious_NX Boost, drifting, dash and jump panels, Coins, Item Boxes, taking damage.
@@adriellightvale8140Boost was already replaced in the mod. Both max boost and mini turbo sounds are unique using Unleashed sound effects.
The others can be replaced, but sadly would affect the other characters and vehicles in the game.
You can realize how long are 4 minutes real Sonic levels vs this 2 minutes long circuit at like 1/100 of his speed.

This already looks really cool, but I have some notes. Don't want anyone to think I'm hating or something, I just have some constructive criticism.
He still makes car noises and there are still effects that don't really make sense, like the light blue glow of the antigrav wheels, or the wind effect around the tires. It would also be cool if the drift sparks were closer to his feet, and if the propeller were attached to something, instead of just floating behind him as he floats. It would be cool to see him hold the items too instead of them floating next to him. It would be cool if he had a custom icon and name as well, since he's not Metal Mario. Finally, I think the idle animations look kinda jittery.
Overall though, I'm still really impressed with this mod.

I've had the same complaints, unfortunately, I'm limited by what karts can have in 8D. Especially on effects and propellers as they're shared by other vehicles in the game
I’d also like to add that sonic is like twice the size of almost everyone else 😂

I could see the small hop from colours when you are going into the drift, as well as the air boost from Unleashed for gliding.
Would've been funny if you got goggles for the underwater section.

something that would be cool if they add it is that everytime you do a trick, the "GOOD, GREAT, AWESOME, OUTSTANDING, AMAZING" sound effects pop up, always starting at "GOOD" and going up till "AMAZING" by doing tricks consecutive
It would have been so cool if every time he did a trick, he would do SA1 or Heros pose instead on spinning like he usually does

I love that it’s Unleashed Sonic. My favourite voice, model, and animations all come from unleashed. (Some animations in generations I like as well though).

Can’t really agree on this. There’s a whole reason why sumo avoided putting sonic on foot in their racing games since it looked clunky during test. And it would’ve been more troubling with the team mechanic and the tracks being designed for kart racing.

Now THIS would be a great secret character to unlock in a future Mario Kart. I love that this many years later our favorite games are getting the coolest mods.
This is so cool. Imagine if every car body option translated to a corresponding outfit, the wheels changed his footwear, and the glider gave him a different styled parachute/backpack glider.

Can you imagine an open world Sonic game where he accelerates and moves like a go kart? And then on top of that could jump and launch himself so far! And his spin dash speeds him like a mushroom! I’m sure it might be wonky, but with good design it could allow for crazy drifty open movement and also very tight and controlled smaller movements for platforming.
