      This really is only a thing if your a person who likes to back up your Kindle library onto your computer, but still enough people do that that this was a pretty popular video for me

    Thanks for this video! I heard rumors about this and a few people verified it in my book groups on Facebook but to actually see it has put the nail in the coffin for kindle for men anyways. I have an 11th gen paperwhite that I do love, but I had been eyeing the colorsoft. I download and remove drm from every purchase I make to add to my computer for backup and so I can fix book covers and such. This lack of download support is a dealbreaker and the 11th gen will be my last kindle. I may get a basic if the 11th gen dies just so I can read kindle unlimited but that’s it.
    However I’m happy to say I’m the proud owner of a new kobo libra colour and love it! The ui is intuitive and I loaded all my kindle books on it. I have my library hooked up and it’s great. Hopefully more people will realize there are other e readers out there that are in ways better than Kindle so that Amazon doesn’t have such a stranglehold on the market which allows them to pull things like this.

      Just remember, even if your old kindle no longer works, as long as it was registered (and you did not deregister or sell) with your amazon account you can still use download and transfer to USB, so you could add new kindles, and keep the old functionality. And Yeah, Kobo has a real opportunity here to become a solid #2. I just wish they had a cloud sync for sideloaded books, so you could read your books converted from amazon across multiple Kobos and their Kobo app.

    I have the new 12 gen paperwhite. You can still download things to your 12th gen via USB connection to your computer but you have to download a new kindle download app for transferring anything to your new kindle. But, you still cant strip or remove DRM items off your kindle to load to other non kindle devices or hard drives even if you use the new app. I know there's a few kobo fans who are using this issue to get people to leave kindle and use kobo. The reality is this issue is a non-issue for the vast majority of kindle users. There's a very small percentage of kindle users who want to side load or transfer their books to other devices. I also predict in the future the same restrictions we're seeing with Kindle DRM restrictions will eventually affect kobo's as well.

      I thought the stuff on the device when you open up with USB was in thier KRF format, which is a pain to pull DRM from. And yes we are the small niche who cares about pulling DRM from Kindle books, most people don’t care. Pulling DRM from the azw3 format is much easier.

    So what do I do with all of my Nook Books since B&N doesn’t sell an ereader anymore? Only alternative I see is using a tablet.

      Nook is exactly the reason to pull DRM from books and back-up.since you never owned the books from Nook and if they decide to stop their service, your screwed. I tried several times to pull the DRM from my Nook Library, but it was just way to techy for me. you basically have to install an android emulator on your computer, download the nook app and and your books, and then pull the DRM from them. It was just a step beyond my knowledge /patience. I only had about 50 nook books so I just called it a loss. You may be of stronger stuff than me and if so here are 2 sites that talk about how to do it that are pretty recent.

      @ thank you. Most of my books are free. I can read them through a tablet/ phone but just not the most comfortable reading experience. I have about 200 books. Would it be worth buying a Glowlight 4 e refurbished for $70 or just call it a day?

    Wish I had known this before I deregistered old kindles. I only have a 12th Gen nowand I cannot download any of the books to transfer to my Kobo colour :(

      @TheDigitalReader  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It’s a pain, but any old kindle will do, get one on eBay (or whatever young people use nowadays) they run around 35-40 and will work fine to register on kindle to give you back the old functionality

    • @pitstop_calvin
      @pitstop_calvin 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      If you still have your old kindles and they still work, you can re-register them. You can have more than one kindle registered in your account.

      @@pitstop_calvin Yea I know but I got rid of them, they were still on my account. But I was good and deregistered them to tidy up my account. Damm! I'm trying to find a cheap one now.

    That is kind of sad about the new Kindle. I'm still tweaking and getting used to my Kobo Libra 2. I installed the Verdana Pro - Bold font on it, and that makes for a very pleasant read with decent contrast and fast and easy reading. I cant keep buying these new ereaders though. I need to stick to one and just use it.

    • @TheDigitalReader
      @TheDigitalReader  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Kobo has a real opportunity here; I think they have the best hardware at the best price right now, and a bookstore second only to Amazon. I just wish they would embrace being an ereader for all your digital books even if you did not buy from them. Their conversion of vanilla epubs is poor, and I can't use a device that can't sync sideloaded content (like send-to-kindle or pocketbook cloud).

    I just canceled my 2024 Kindle scribe order because it seems like Kendall is a prison. Yeah I can send documents into the prison, but how do I get out? I like to do notes with the pen but the kindle is too big to put in my pocket, I would like to extract those notes put them on my phone or my laptop, but apparently I can’t. There used to be a webpage, but they turned that off. I wonder what would happen if I plugged my scribe into my computer. Is there an app that can read it? It’s just my notes so I shouldn’t have to worry about any security like DRM.

      I have to admit,, I am not a huge fan of E-ink tablets and note-takers. They always seem like the worst compromise between a dedicated E-ink reader and an LCD tablet. Given that you can get a 10th gen Ipad, apple pencil knock-off and a Matte Blue light filter screen protector for under 450.00, that is how I would go on a budget instead of 450.00 on an 10.2" eEink tablet. But just my opinion..

    I amylad you mentioned this so we know to avoid kindles from now on

    • @TheDigitalReader
      @TheDigitalReader  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I still enjoy Kindles for some uses, thier books store is the place to go to find a hard to find book , and send to kindle rocks, but I know a lot of people are trading in or getting rid of thier old kindles not realizing what they are losing. If kindles did a better job with their book organization for large libraries I probably would be using them. specially since I think an old paperwhite and a Kindle colorsoft could be is a perfect combination. But Kobo has a real opportunity here to take a lot of marketshare away from Amazon since they’ve stumbled on the rollout of these devices.
