    If only parents would put this much time in teaching their kids as youngsters boundaries, obedience, no back talk, slack or goofing off or acting cute to get away with things! The world would be filled with respectful, kind, courteous people, no mean, obnoxious youth and definitely no entitled attitudes.😂😂❤❤ This guy is beyond words in his own self discipline, modesty and hard work! Such a gift for us all!! ❤❤😊

    It’s so important too that you take them back to the exact spot from which they broke their stay. Daddy always told me not to use treats for this type of training: “What will happen if they are not hungry? Teach them to obey because that is simply what they do upon hearing or seeing your command.”

    • @mygirldarby
      @mygirldarby 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I've had many dogs in my life and I've trained them all using treats + praise for basic commands when they were very young. Most puppies will never turn down a treat if it's something they really like. After they know the command very well, which doesn't take long at all, I stop giving a treat each time they do it. I always praise, but the treats become like a slot machine, sometimes they get one, sometimes they get two at once (like a jackpot), and sometimes they get none. This is very addictive for dogs as well as humans. Randomly giving out a big prize (two treats) a little prize or none is exactly why people can get addicted to slot machines, and it works with dogs the same. I recently found out that this technique is called "jackpotting" but I just naturally stumbled upon it many years ago. It has been my experience that this technique greatly decreases the time it takes for them to learn a new command, even a more complex one. Apparently studies also show that jackpotting is the fastest way to teach a dog.
      After a dog or puppy knows a command well, I use praise to reinforce. Almost all dogs love to please us. It's built into them, probably through thousands of years living with humans. I will sometimes revert back to giving treats when we run through their learned commands, but it's just for fun because they know these commands and don't need to be "trained" anymore. It's a part of playtime with them from then on. Training itself should be considered fun and interesting for your dog. Always end it with lots of praise, treats if you like, and playtime. You don't need to be a prison warden with demands for obedience, lol.
      A well-loved, well-trained dog will carry out whatever you ask of him or her because they trust you and want to please you. If you are kind and take good care of them, they will know that what you ask of them is for their own good. Dogs are very smart like that. Blind obedience shouldn't be the goal. Obedience based on trust and partnership is the right way.

    • @gr8H8er
      @gr8H8er 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mygirldarby that’s peachy in a perfectly safe environment or with pets at leisure. Working class dogs, depending their occupation often must ‘blindly’ obey. (What ever that means?) In the field, the working dog is required to obey 100% of the time. Can you imagine? “I told the dogs to push the sheep through the right gate but since I don’t expect blind obedience, they pushed them down the lane and into traffic!” Oooookeeeee.
      “Jackpotting” is a term made up by someone hoping to skin people of their hard earned resources. The proper, scientific, long standing term is ‘Intermittent Gratification’, not unlike what is used on POW’s to ensure they don’t run away. It is an excellent, proven way to induce psychosis. You should watch some of the videos of rats tortured thusly as they neurotically depress the lever again and again and again. Of course it works, just watch dogs walking at a heel staring up at their handler’s face while they walk! Poor things! Everything with eyes will naturally watch where it is going.

      I would hardly call what Augusto does in this video acting like a prison warden. I agree with you that obedience based on trust is the goal, but boundaries are key to trust. This is just as true with dogs as it is with humans. He is not being cruel to his dogs, he's setting boundaries in a fair way and this builds the trust that allows his dogs to be so obedient and attentive to him.
      I'm not contesting, by the way, the jackpotting method you mentioned. I've seen the literature showing how effective this is. There's no harm, as far as I can see, in using treats and also establishing boundaries with your dogs - I'd consider that a well rounded relationship.

  • @ArtemisSilverBow

    This is how I trained my German shepherd and Siberian husky. There are a lot of positive-only trainers in my area who were haters to me because it is necessary to train a powerful German shepherd and a husky differently. Waiting around for them to do the right thing and give them a treat doesn't work for powerful dogs as well...at least not in my experience. Oh, the husky wasn't powerful, but if you've ever had a husky, it's like having a cat dog, lol...they have zero desire to please you. I even got my husky to be as well behaved as my German shepherd. I was against a prong collar until I learned how to fit and use it correctly. My husky is what is called a soft dog so I didn't use that on him but my German Shepherd used to go get it for me to put it on her. What people don't realize is that the most effective way to train a dog is to be calm and consistent. I don't know why that's difficult for so many people. At any rate thank you for these videos.

    I love how he tells you that when your in public or walking your dogs they are "working" I feel alot of owners (including myself) do not get this at first..but makes total sence. Then you can release the lay/stay command and the dog's midset lets them know they are free to play..as reward..
    Pool time..run time..play with them etc. But " working" when you need your dogs to be stable in a confusing environment 😊 Bravo Dog Daddy!

    We found a 1 yr old pit bull who we’ve had for 6 mo’s. I found you 10 days ago and the “leash aggression” helped me so much. We were ready to give him away but now we have new hope. We are 70 and Hobie is very strong and has bitten us and pulled me down in the ground, and in addition attacked a dog. Very dog aggressive. But not toward people. He barks at everyone but he likes people. This has been a very difficult 6 months with this dog.
    You are now giving me hope. I’m scouring you tube for “all” your video’s. I am looking for your dog leash, muzzle and other dog products.

    These videos should be shown to anyone thinking about getting a dog. Ro show how much patience and time you need ro soend on them. My youngest daughter is scared of dogs. And ive shown her that theres no need if a dog is on a lead and not barking ect. I don't letnher go and attempt to stroke any without asking about their temperament. But most dogs you see around my area are friendly but jump up constantly. That's what she doesn't like. Ive wanted to ask them if they wanted any help training them, but you never know how people will react to to that. I don't have a a dog, but i have had them and know exactly what to do. But I've got inflammatory arthritis and fybromialgia so it wouldn't be fare to have a dog sadly. But id love to walk easier dogs every now and again. Would help with my daughter's fears aswell.

    There is a lot of similarities with training kids ....parents that don't do this and use too many treats and positive reinforcement too much end up with kids that won't learn to enjoy their own company and won't do anything to help without a reward

    Hey Augusto, thanks for creating this content and mentioning positive only and aversive/uncomfortable consequence method difference in the long run. People get confused because they are bombarded some things are forbidden to do that saying some things are the most effective in the long run sounds reassuring. Thank you for that ♥️

    Love this video! I just found your channel and have been amazed so far with your work with aggressive dogs. I have a three month old pit Bull pup and I was hoping to find some of your methods as they are young. Once again everything is very sensible and effective.

    You are so wonderful. I sit and watch you deal with all dogs for hours. I am never bored with your videos or dogs. Please I need help with my Maltese. I have two and I need to know when will you have a visit to Randallstown Md. If you ever come I will be there. I use to watch Ceasar but once I found you, you’re it. I will try and visit your website to inquire about you coming to Maryland. Thank you for your outstanding talents with these dogs who are in need of help with someone who truly understand thoroughly their needs to achieve successful obedience from our fur babies.

    If you spend about 30 minutes a day of "training" time with your dog, very quickly you will have amazing results. Never get frustrated with them, they sense it and they get nervous and act WORSE.
    This video was absolutely NOT BORING! It is a realistic viewpoint of the patience you need to have and the work it takes to have such phenomenal success. Its not impossible though.
    My dog *loves* the challenge of learning new things. So i constantly am working on 2 things with her. Once she masters one, we move on to another. Not always new ones though, sometimes refreshers of once she needs work on again. It keeps her angaged and happy and she feels like shes accomplished something for me, and proud of herself.

      How to stop dogs barking indoors which annoy neighbours?

    You have the right idea with training and distractions are the best!

    • @DonnaBaker125
      @DonnaBaker125 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Personally, I think starting puppies off in an environment with so many distractions is unfair to the puppy. I would have helped the puppies learn what is expected of them in an area where it was quiet and calm, so they could focus on the learning. When the behavior has become reliable, then you add in distractions, a little at a time. The way shown here is akin to throwing a first grader into a high school classroom and expecting them to understand the advanced lessons. Going more slowly sets the dog up to succeed.
