A few other guys to add to the list: Wade Miley, 2012-Was actually a rookie this year, and a damn good one. Came in second in ROY voting. No-hit my Indians recently, and may make a second All-Star team this year. Nate McLouth, 2008-One of many forgotten Pirate All-stars of their wilderness years, he was a pretty good ballplayer, making an All-Star team and winning a gold glove this year. It could be argued in hindsight that his defense was overrated due to sabremetrics finding him to have far below average range, but he still had a phenomenal year at the plate. Mike Williams, 2002 & 2003-A 2-time All-Star, is on here because not only is he forgotten, but in 2003, he was maybe the worst All-Star of all time. Unfortunately, Baseball-Reference doesn't separate between 1st and 2nd halves, luckily, he was traded just after the All-Star break to Philly from Pittsburgh. His stats in Pittsburgh: 1-3 with a 6.27 ERA and 25 saves, and a WAR of -0.8. Yuck. Rather than send him to the All-Star game, I'd be sending him to Triple or even Double A. Brock Holt, 2015-Hit for the cycle that year, and then famously became the only player to do so in Postseason history in 2018. Jason Castro, 2013-Had a great year for the worst team in Astros history in getting to his only All-Star team, hitting .276 with 18 HRs and 56 RBIs and 4.2 WAR. Unfortunately, he stagnated after that and could never get back to that form. I could go further, but you get the point: there's many forgotten All-Stars, or at least guys people forget were All-Stars.
I like the story about how Nate McLouth made the effort to learn, and apparently, to become fluent in the dialect of Spanish spoken by his Dominican teammates, just so he could be a better teammate. I don’t speak Spanish, so I can’t personally attest to his fluency, but his teammates seemed impressed and appreciative: th-cam.com/video/W08B_Cqiblo/w-d-xo.html
@@thegoat2210 I'm not saying he wasn't a good ballplayer. I'm just saying that, in the modern era, outside of maybe Pat Seerey in 1948, Gennett was quite possibly the least likely guy to hit 4-HRs in a game and actually do it. And even Seerey had a lot of power for his day; he just struck out a TON.
I remember him. Dude was slugging and kept eventual Cubs legend Anthony Rizzo stuck at Iowa for a bit due to his ridiculous clubbing of the ball. Eventually the Cubs called up Rizzo when LaHair started to struggle and moved to the outfield with pretty poor results. I think LaHair eventually went to Japan after his MLB days and couldn't find consistency in the majors anymore.
My favorite is Derrick Turnbow, mainly because he had an ERA over 9.00 after the all star break. So he was an all star in a season where his final ERA was well over 6.00
I looked him up & he already had a 4.74 ERA by the all-star game! Most people probably thought "How is this guy an all-star?" when his stats came on screen.
Man, I remember Cahill very fondly from his time with the cubs. It was a breath of fresh air to see us take a chance with him and see him have success. A part of a very fun 2015 squad and even helped a bit in 16 getting a legendary ring
Eduardo Nunez, love that dude. Red Sox fan, he showed up to play everyday, even when he probably should've sat. Dudes knees were falling apart on him. I remember in particular one at bat where he just struggled to get through it because his knees were in rough shape. You could see it on his face and how he moved his legs. Tough guy for sure.
Video series idea: reverse split smashers You go over a couple semi-unknown players who were way better against their same handedness pitchers in career rather than the opposite handedness (which is against what you would normally expect)
Pleased to see Saunders on here! A boy from my city! Him being selected to the all-star team was a proud for our baseball nation. I know that me and many other Canadians voted like crazy to get him on the squad!
I remember when they signed him I was like holy shit they really want a ring 😂 like I remember thinking that, that Arizona team was gonna go far for some reason lol

One guy that could be a forgotten allstar could be Justin Duchscherer of the Oakland Athletics. Sure he won it twice so I'm not too surprised he wasnt on here, but I'm sure if you were to mention his name, no one would know who you'd be talking about
As a Red Sox fan, I believe that Brock Holts 2015 all star season and Steven Wright (the knuckleballer) in 2016 are pretty forgotten all star seasons if you decide to do a part 2
Growing up in toronto with that stellar and exciting bluejays roster, Michael Saunders was legitimately one of my favorite players in the majors. I had his jersey, a bobblehead, autographs, cards, he was awesome.
Ron Coomer deserves a shout out in a video like this, dude looked like a furniture salesman on a beer league softball team and had the biggest “happy to be here” grin on his face at the ‘99 All-Star Game
the only reason I know Trevor Cahill was an all star is cuz of OOTP, I come across him often for some weird reason also his FIP that year he was an all star was 4.19, so most people were surprised but if people looked a little deeper they'd understand why he never matched that year.
Spot on - he was a sinker baller with a low strikeout rate; plus, he threw a lot of innings real young, I think he was only 22 that All Star year Basically, everything was pointing to a downfall, if you know what to look for

Aaron Cook: Considering his teams home field had a higher elevation than Shipett stadium, he did fairly well, 16-9, 3.96 era, but had only 96 Ks in 211 IP 😯 Everth Cabrera: Now this was a name I have not heard of in a while! 2013 all star, .287 average with 4 homers and 31 rbis, stole 37 bags, not too shabby. Milton Bradley could've made this list too. He started in the 2008 All-Star Game for the American League, it was the only All-Star selection of his career.
