Parody is a form of art, and parodying pieces of media is just another way for their legacy to continue on. They would not have chosen to parody it if it weren't the cultural landmark that it was. I don't know Tolkein as a person, but if my works were prevalent enough for people to want to parody them, I'd be flattered.

Just the act of splitting/breaking the circle probably already killed Sauron; if not, he could most likely finish the job if they all agree to pay for a piercing or tattoo or something.
