I'm here in Tennessee shopping for bamboo and cursing that all of the bunching varieties are rated for zone 8 and find the exact channel I needed lol. Thanks for the info.
My wife used to have bamboo in her yard it spread out so quickly at one time she decided to get rid of it. I like them in a pot and yours looks very good. You have good ideas A. ~see you in the forum Marcus
Have you ever roped any together to maintain the shape of the grove and prevent the canes from falling over and breaking? Or ever used stakes to keep the canes upright?
I watched another thing where it said to drill holes in the center because the rhizomes go diagonally. Why do you do yours on the side? I haven't bought my containers yet just wanted to make sure i do it right. Also why do you need to rip up the pot every few years?
I drill my pots with a few 1/4 inch holes about 2" up from the bottom. The bammboo will be root bound at some point and impossible to pull out from the pot.
Awesome info, thank you!! Do you have a link to that decorative liner you used as well? I really like that decorative palm look to cover up the containers

Hello, very informative video!I live in nothern Greece and here in winter the temperature may drop to - 5 to -10 for a short period of 2 weeks or so.Would you recoment planting bamboo in pots for my north-east balcony?
Beautiful pool area! I am in North Carolina, so probably zone 7B where I live. I just got four large pots of clumping type bamboo (Alphonse Karr, and Golden Goddess) for my back deck… Any tips for winter protection for these? I am assuming I need to wrap them in plastic or something because it got down to 9° last winter. Maybe shower curtains or painter’s tarps?
As in the video I recommend running for pots. You can try to lay them over on their side on the ground and put a tarp on them in low temps but the bamboo I recommended would be fine without protection. I have no idea of your variety or cold hardiness.
@@tntropics Thank you! I am sort of a newbie with Bamboo, so I probably bought the wrong kind 😄 but I will try some “frost cloth” I found online, (some mulch also) and hope that will work. They were an impulse buy, but hopefully I can keep them alive.
You can use most any potting soil or even dirt from your yard mixed with some compost or soil conditioner. Fert recommendation is in video, slow release nitrogen like osmocote.
Mine is dying. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. My husband thinks it is too much water. I only water it once a week, I have it indoors. Any advice? Thanks’

I want to grow a privacy fence between my and my Neighbor house. I don't have much room so i was thinking of fabricating a container. Do you think I could get away with a container that is about 12" wide by 8' long and up to 4' deep? What type of bamboo should i use and how far apart should i plant? I am in zone 12-13
Dimensions sound good except about 18" deep is plenty for most running bamboo up to 1" diameter. You will need to consult a bamboo nursery close to you for advice on variety. Thanks for watching!
@@tntropics that does look like the majesty palm..does that survive your winter? is that a shade palm for the hot summer months?.i’m in a zone 9b, im thinking that palm would fry with our hot summers
So sorry, but bamboo is not a pot plant. My opinion, it just looks every shade of wrong in a confined place. Even with seed grafting, I'm yet to find pleasant looking pot grown bamboo. Otherwise everything else is great.

Yes planted in ground can be trouble unless planned control
running bamboo can be a real pain if you dont have acreage but clumping is much easier to handle
Have you ever roped any together to maintain the shape of the grove and prevent the canes from falling over and breaking? Or ever used stakes to keep the canes upright?
Yes you can tie them together midway up. Bamboo will not break bending over as ice storms here have pinned them to the ground and they come back
beautiful landscape
Hey thanks for watching!
beautiful bamboo

Thanks for the comment. For some potted is the only way
@@tntropics I agree. I suppose an exception would perhaps be the beautiful lucky bamboo. 🙏
