I'm addicted to bamboo. We recently acquired 10 acres in south Florida and by the time I die, it's going to look like a jungle in Thailand.

You are 100% correct but unfortunately Bamboo is ridiculously expensive in the USA. I live in the Philippines and the identical bamboo we buy & sell here for $1-2 dollars is sold for over $65++ in the USA.

Bamboo incredible the way grows. Back in the 80s we had it along the back fence a lot of privacy. A lot of memories.

I would love to learn from your experience, as within the UK, it looks great for acting as a partition screen & sound barrier, whilst being positive for the carbon absorption.

After having had to cut through forests of the stuff at work, I've often said I'd NEVER plant it on my property, but I'm about to 'bite the bullet' and grow myself a privacy fence. This video helped me make that decision. Good luck, me!

Great video! I love bamboos. Recently planted two clumps of fargesia. It's amazing how fast they respond to a heavy watering if they started to dry out. I thought I lost mine but they bounced back very well😊

If she wasn't cute and the content was the same there would be far less views. THAT is the truth of it. There is one gardener who was not blessed by being pretty but has one he'll of a body and she shows it off. Her views are overwhelming. If you take about 200,000 of those views away that would be a more accurate count of those who are actually interested in your verbal content. Hey.....I say it as it is. It's called "the Truth". But there is no such thing as truth anymore on social media and we are often censored for it. TH-cam practices censoring everyday and it is un-American.

    Two years! Awesome video!
    Questions:
    1. What type of soil do you have? (Clay, sand, pure black gold)
    2. Wow, 2 years later! I wonder how are your bamboo doing?
    3. What did the county/city ordinance say about maintaining the bamboo?
    4. How deep does the bamboo rhizome system grow? I’m concerned with it growing too close to structures and compromising the foundation substrate.
    5. Along with the bamboo barrier, could I use a 4”-6” thick cement trench wall? If so, how deep should I go?
    6. How can you tell if you have a clumping or running bamboo?
    7. If I grow nitrogen/nutrient providing Comfrey before the bamboo, would that suffice for feeding at least its nitrogen needs?
    8. How tall did your bamboo grow? And how long did it take to get to that height?
Thank you so much for your great help, patience and kindness in answering these questions! 😊

I have watched someone do it on a TH-cam vid. I live in the UK so I don’t think bamboos here can grow to the size as the ones in your beautiful garden. Thank you for all the valuable information. Hi Sarah! thanks for sharing.. your bamboo's look very happy in your garden..
one thing about those "annoying" shoots, you know you can eat them.. when they pop out about 50cm..
and more then that - you can make some beautiful art with them. the shoots are traditionally used in cutlery, cups, mugs.. its beautiful and dense wood that is durable and water proof..
so you know, if you didnt already..

'stalks' don't grow back. You must cut the rhizome if you don't want it to spread. This woman is foolish. They're very possible to contain, they just require frequent attention.

    • @sunset7860
      @sunset7860 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Like asparagus and bindweed, the rapid growth comes from energy stored in the root system.
So harvesting and cutting without giving the plant time to restore it's reserves will reduce it's ability to regrow.
Hence the maturest plants with the greatest stored reserves will resprout more often and with greater vigour.

It's a useful plant. It can be invasive if planted in the wrong place, but if you have an area dedicated to it, plant the right species and take measures in advance to contain it, it's manageable. If it were as bad as everyone says it is, the whole world would be covered in it.
I think loblolly pine is invasive, but you rarely hear anyone complain about it.

In some areas it is wise to use clumping, rather than running, bamboo. The cold weather running bamboo can be difficult to control in hot climates . But there and a huge variety of bamboos that clump and have all the same benefits commercially and environmentally.

privacy. I called our local nursery and they said they would eventually
die in a pot. The pots I have are about 18" X 18" and about 3 feet
deep. I can purchase something else, if necessary. Do you think I
could maintain them in a pot with good success? We are in Southern
California so we never have very cold weather and they would get partial
to full sunlight. Hope to hear back from you.
