planted my bamboo in giant bottom less containers,since the rhizomes are surface growers gave them enough space to spread and 15 years later I do not need to do this process,I harvest with ease and the regrowth is perfect,

I’m no expert here, but I am thinking that based on the plethora of videos I have now consumed on the subject and the info I’ve seen in them, that if you keep your roots tidy and short they will probably always be fine in stock pots, but as they continue to grow the roots become as long as the bamboo is tall so you may want to take them out on occasion, and either divide them up or just keep on those roots because they will eventually break through unless the pots are sturdy enough to withstand that type of growth. I also noticed, yesterday, when I divided up some of my sons literal forest in his backyard, that those roots are also as thick as the bamboo it’s self, so you will definitely need a saw to get through them and make sure the rhizomes are still healthy and whole. Question about drainage in the tank. Tanks have usually 1 drain opening aprox 3/4 or 1in..... I saw you lined the bottom with 3/4 stone...... How deep was the stone? Were more drain holes cut thru the tank? That would mess up the galvanizing and cause them to rust fast. Enjoyed the Vid.
We add drainage holes all around, 3/4", 1.5' apart, all around the bottom of the sides. We put a few inches of drain rock as well. We don't see much rusting.

Like, will the bamboo die if I just leave it in its original container like the ones you have, or will it simply not grow any larger? ( You mentioned something about leaves falling, but I wasn't sure if that was permanent or why exactly.) I would like to try this on my property, but would like them to remain in their original containers basically "forever" so as I age it's easier for myself and my family to maintain. (I grow all of my garden plants in containers because it's much easier for me, but bamboo is a bit intimidating to try though I always wanted to)
If you never maintain them by splitting the roots when they fill in, the bamboo will get rootbound. When it gets rootbound, it won't be able to take up any water or nutrients through its roots. It will starve. Then it might even stress flower. Then it will die.
I just planted a dozen bamboo in galvanized stock tanks. I went with the forty gallon, 1 foot depth which fit better in my truck from Tractor Supply. 4 foot by 2 foot by 1 foot. It looks like you have 100 gallon stock tanks here. 4 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot depth. I drilled holes in the base about 1/2 inch diameter. I used some stones and cloth on the bottom. I can always drill more holed around the bottom of the sides I'll need to consider drilling more holes. I also put the pots on dollies so I can wheel them around! I hope they grow into the 15 foot beauties you have there. Do you suggest adding fertilizer?

The clumpers wouldn't have the roots running around the edges, but they'd still be dug out the same way.

At least the roots are shallow … but they’re work when one is trying to cut through them, thus the saw. 😉

Yes, they only shoot during the spring, so you should see some new growth then.

Probably not, since you do need drainage. We recommend clumpers in raised beds or boxes without bottoms.

You just hammer some metal stakes in the container (we used u-channel sign posts) and then tie a support beam across.
