I just used your advice Steven on lid repair along with some modifications of mine. Thanks so much for the ideas on this project. This is our fourth (4) lid that has failed and we are not ruff on opening and closing!. 2 under warranty, 1 with parts( lid) covered but not labor ($160),and this one I was determined to fix or junk this piece of.......metal/plastic.😀 Wife had to weight the corners down with 5lb hand barbells on corners for the lid to lock! IF not fixed, wife was headed to buy new machine, just not a Maytag! Sooo, I used your idea of "L" brackets (painted them black tho), used JB weld, and as you know the main fault of this poorly engineered lid is the torque on the hinges and the plastic. So I removed the SPRINGS on each side (kept the hinge) that contributes to the pressure and torque on the corners. One would have to have a bit of shop experience to do this as it required cutting some metal to remove the heavy duty springs that are really not needed. So put it together, reinstalled the lid, said a prayer, and Presto-Eureka , lid locks, it works like a charm and wife is happy camper. (me too) :) Thanks again...Jim in GA 👍
You went quite a bit farther in your fix than I did by removing the springs! Glad it worked. Based on what I have read on TH-cam, this problem happens on some other models, so even if you buy a new machine, you may run into the same problem.
In the late 80s and early 90s my parents had laundry mats and owned over 60 Maytag washers. Maytag company is sure not what it was then. Weve had ours for 4 years and its broke. Maytags response was the 10 year warranty doesn't cover the lid. POS failure made to make more money. We live in a throw away world now.
Thank you so much for this video! We had the exact same problem and followed your step-by-step. We had to use paint stir sticks and cut them to size with a razor blade, but it worked like a charm! Saved us over $300! THANK YOU!
Thank you so much! We have the same issue with the same model of washing machine. We've had nothing but problems with it it seems since we bought it! 🤞🏼 This will work on ours!
The hinges are accessible on the bottom right and bottom left corners. I think I only removed one hinge to remove the lid. Get a flashlight and look into the opening for the hinge on the bottom-left edge. The hinge is held in by two screws. I believe the screws are T-15 star slots. Once you get the two screws out, the hinge separates into two pieces and that corner of the lid is free. Then, the opposite hinge just slides out. I left that hinge in place as I worked on the lid.
Thank you so much for this video. How do you get the lid back on? I followed all the steps and am going to let it cure over night
Never mind. I was able to get it back on. Thanks again. Hopefully it holds up! 🎉

Using paint sticks. Very smart!!
Good information and I see many people are having the same problem; I would rather have a 30-dollar fix than a 300-dollar fix. Thank you

Ugh, things really aren’t build to last 😢 Thank you for this video!
I am going to try this...Thanks!
Good Luck! My repair is still holding. I do not see signs of weakening, at least not yet.
How did you remove the lid from the machine? Hate to break something else making repair.

@@stevenlobello2289 Thanks. Mine are phillips head as I have an agitator.
@@bradbyrd6669 I hope the hinge design on your model is not different than I described.
Do you just need to purchase a new lid, or do you need to buy extra parts?
Neither. As shown in the video, we repaired the broken lid, and it works fine so far!
Add me to the list! Gonna work on this repair
