Aside from learning our history, it's refreshing to listen to Prof Ambeth. He's humble, not know it all kind of person, and you can fully understand he's lecture.

there are more crocodiles in the philippines today than during the colonial era, the only difference is that crocodiles of today are mostly positioned in the government.

On the renaming of the Philippines, I defer to Ocampo’s love for Rizal and propose any of these: Rizalia; Rizaland; Rizalistan; or Rizalnesia.

I believe, the word "discovered" should be used by people in Spain but not by Filipinos here in the Philippines. When the Spaniards ARRIVED, they DISCOVERED a thriving civilization here and they were cordially received and welcomed by the natives but later on they abused our hospitality and made themselves lords over the ancestors. So the word discover is from the point of view of the Spaniards and the wole of Europe but not from our perspective.

It's a Luzon-centric history that Ocampo's teaching. How about the 'arrival' of the Muslim missionaries much earlier to Mindanao? Not that I'm Muslim, but I'm from Mindanao...

it is a total embarrassment and humiliation for the filipinos to still worship the god of their conquerors who oppressed and enslaved their ancestors and to be called filipinos and their country being named philippines are dehumanizing since both the terms indicate that the people and the place are possessions of a spanish king who had no bearing or whatsoever to who they are as a people and as a nation.
