    Probably my favorite Saint. She led a humble, righteous life and dedicated her life to her faith.

    • @RayB1656

      Jehanne la Pucelle was not humble ! It is well-known , she had a temper,
      which was certainly necessary during that period ;
      she had the best clothing, spurs of gold, 2 armors with 4 swords, which are all known incuding s short German Messer, other weapons and 12 horses, half of them , Medieval war horses. She dedicated her adult life to her 4 missions, when she left her Barrois region for Chinon. She requested the Fierbois sword which was certainly Bertrand du Guesclin old sword.
      This is an interesting story by itself.
      She wanted to be near the Reims Cathedral 'alter, at the Dauphin's Coronation ceremony, howeve, r she was denied and was sent to the nave of the cathedral amongst the other guests. Surely, Charles VII wanted all the glory for himself !
      This particular incident is also known from the Vigiles of Charles VII, painted at the end to the 15th century, around 1490.
      With the Franquet d'Arras's incident, that infamous pirate of the Loire Valley
      we can certainly better understand her personality.
      Again, an interesting story to read.

      excellent comment, yet very difficult to answer.
      As you know, there are thousand books concerning the amazing Jehanne la Pucelle' story, books written from the late 15th century in Medieval French , to today's modern versions , most of them often different or evolving. It is said there are more than 20,000 books on the subject.
      There are a few Medieval hand-written Latin documents, however they are rare and not really accessible...and even some of these are probably false, like the one of Perceval de Boulainvilliers , advisor to Charles VII. Quite frustrating.
      There are many ''Jehanne''....
      the classical Jehanne with the Saints ... (see the conclusion of the Vatican,1969 )
      the political Jehanne, who was abused by the French and English Aristocracies
      the poor, pious, non-educated peasant, Jehanne who fought at Orléans ...
      the well-educated Jehanne, doing Jousting at the Court of the Duke of Lorraine,
      speaking a few dialects, learned warfare tactics, from her friend René d'Anjou, son of Yolande d'Anjou,
      the Jehanne with only a white banner, without any skills, a ''mascot'' on a white horse,
      the Jehanne with a mental illness and her visions ...
      a military & effective Jehanne who defeated and arrested Franquet d'Arras with ''modern'' tactics....
      Conclusion = quite confusing.
      In reality , very few historical reliable sources !
      With thousand of books repeating themselves ,
      also, every authors for centuries bringing their own interpretation .
      A hundred year ago or more, Jehanne was about 23 year old when she died in 1431,
      today, she is a teenager....( probably, adds more drama to the story !)
      What to recommend ? How to understand these events ;
      maybe to study the 14th and 15th century Medieval World...the people and their struggles.
      To learn about the individuals who were involved with Jehanne la Pucelle ;
      who was really the Dauphin, Yolande d'Anjou, certainly the mastermind, the angular stone and her son René d'Anjou,
      Bishop Regnault de Chartres and his nephew Guillaume de Flavy, which were at Compiègne and really disliked Jehanne,
      George de La Trémouillle putting Jehanne under ''house arrest'' at his Sully-sur-Loire' castle,
      Her father who was the ''prévôt'' of the region and working under Robert de Bandricourt....an important man, not really the poor peasant often described ,
      Agnès Sorel, the mistress of Charles VII, a beauty of the Medieval world...
      where she came from, what was her real role....
      with Agnès Sorel, the Hundred Years war would probably have a different ending...
      who was Marie d'Anjou, his wife ...
      the serious English claim for the Crown and how it was deflected politically in 1455/56...
      This story is an on-going research, bringing new info every year
      and a slowly changing story !
      Similar to Science, patience is required.
      Will I ever find the truth about the story, not in my lifetime !!

    On most issues this video is consistent with the consensus among historians who have studied the subject in depth, except for issues such as the idea that she "led" the army (which she denied ever claiming when the issue was brought up at her trial, and the Royal records show the actual command structure). She said at her trial that she never fought, instead carrying her banner. Also the idea that she dressed in "men's clothing" is badly misleading since this just refers to the soldiers' outfit that she was given to wear, first by the soldiers who escorted her to Chinon (according to their eyewitness accounts) and later by the Royal government. Several eyewitnesses said she told them she continued wearing it in prison because she could securely tie the outfit's cords through eyelets in the tunic to lace the different parts together so her guards couldn't pull her clothing off. She was finally forced to give this clothing up on 24 May 1431, then (according to the bailiff) the guards took away her dress and forced her to put the soldiers' clothing back on so they could claim she was a "relapsed heretic", which was the reason she was condemned to die, not the reasons given in this video. As for the comment that she was never liberated from prison as promised by her visions: during the investigation of her case in 1455-1456 (which this video mentions), the appellate judge commented that she was "liberated ... from the prison of the body by martyrdom and a great victory of patience [or patient suffering]".

      I notice your name is victor... Victory.
      Its prophetic.
      And same, I remember when I heard about her as a little girl, I was so inspired and had so much awe at such a corageous woman and I felt the same even her name. It reminds me how Jeremiah says in the bible a fire shut up in my bones.. wanting to come out.
      and the story of a prophetess Deborah who lead army if men and overcame their enemy.

    Freedom has many definitions. To every person in the world the idea of freedom is different. I can tell you that she did receive her freedom. It's a freedom that is not defined Earthly but rather heavenly which is the best kind of Freedom that one could ever achieve because once this life ends our true selves leave the body and we go where we are told to go due to our actions while here where all tests are taken and all challenges are challenged.

    • @RayB1656
      @RayB1656 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jehanne la Pucelle was not really looking forward to ''receive her freedom'' .
      She wanted to live , like everyone else !
      She was caught by the Burgundians at Compiègne ;
      it was an entrapment set-up !
      A stronger Burgundians force , hiding behind small hills were waiting for her
      an early evening.
      Who provided the info ?
      Your answer is there.

      @@Dav1d15196 God does not believe that none of us matter to him. We are all technically connected by energy and the higher power known as God is the greater energy that we come from. Since we all have free will and have to make decisions on our own, God is not allowed to disrupt our free will, since it is an agreement and also something that every human being wants. Every human being wants so much freedom and free will. The consequences of our free will come afterwards. This is why we are all considered brothers and sisters as we come from the same place. It's sad when any of our brothers and sisters would want to hurt us. It's sad when any of our brothers and sisters would want to insult one another. Having trouble with the existence that God is and always will be is not really the matter at hand with this TH-cam video. This documentary shows our imperfections. It shows that no matter what flag we fly under, what closing of spiritual beliefs we wear, that we are still filled with so many imperfections. We are all still sinners.
