Christmas Eve 1971 was a Friday night. Shepherd says he hopes people are doing something better than listening to his show. As for me, I can't think of a better way to spend a Christmas Eve than listening to Shepherd tell a Christmas story.
The times were much better then, and the Shep was a great part of that. He would be 100 years old now, but I remember listening to him over half a century ago, when he was a younger man than I am now. Man how the time flies by, and it's amazing how much you love the past, once it's past, and only really appreciate life when you start to approach the end of it. A little Shep wisdom, I've gleaned from his broadcasts that are forever traveling into the great cosmos and beyond. Night all.
@@jasonbeard4713How cynical of you! Kids were not shooting kids ! The majority of people still at least tried to make a difference to keep this old world on a straight path……Today people only appear to care for themselves !Very few will go the extra mile to help .
@@J-ellO Oh things were always "better" back in the day . We glamorize the past and forget the bad parts. Why years from now some one will say " Things were better when I was growing up, the air was still somewhat breathable and we got to eat an extra potato every second week instead of Soylent Green all the time which was quite yummy in it's own right" ... Then some one else that's younger will chime in with "You're crazy, that Soylent Green was made from people with contaminated brains and that potato was actually congealed recycled poop."....Then another one will chastise the young guy for ruining the older man's memories of fun times 🤣
Craziest of mine was the blizzard of 78 I think... but we always traveled from central Illinois to Minnesota for Christmas with so many memories. My gramps had horrible trees but all my cousins and aunts and uncles there, and my beloved grandparents. Was magical
I remember that blizzard…we, too, traveled from central Illinois (Peoria) to southern Missouri that year…the thing that stuck out to me was all the trees covered in ice
I got a guitar for Christmas in 1971, still play and still have that guitar. I spent 32 years at Fort Monmouth, in uniform and out. Thanks for everything Jean!
xmas eve 1971 we had just moved into our new home with our 1 year old daughter it was wonderful a stuggle but worth more than any riches we only worked half day at the Birds Eye factory xmas eve and got a ice cream sponge as we left factory
They still do the Yule log on WPIX. It's been a LI/NYC TV tradition like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade/March Of The Wooden Soldiers double feature.
