40 years later and still a classic.

I remember seeing this movie in 1983 with my family and laughed uproariously. I have watched this movie a dozen times and own a copy as well. I grew up listening to Jean Shepherd on WOR for years.

Having my twelfth year Christmas present a Daisy "Spittin' Image" 1894 B B gun makes this splendid movie an exceptional treat to watch every Christmas. As every summer, his "Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss" is a mother treasure to watch.

I try to introduce people to Gene Sheherd, his radio programs are all over the internet. I think he was the best story teller of all time.

He was in the film where he is the man in the hat that tells Ralphie and his brother randy the line to see Santa Claus begins there and ends right here.

It's interesting to hear the creator of the greatest Christmas Story ever told feeling a bit insecure about how it was going to be received.

Thanks for coming Jean. Now I'll unexpectedly do some fake takes for our interview so people can see me. Please...don't interrupt.

Exactly what Jean always critized about how fake , weird and unrespectable tv was and still is....

Looks like Peter Billingsley slouching nervously and waiting for his turn on the hot seat.

Shep's whole career echos the trauma he never got over of his real life old man abandoning the family and running off to Florida with a young blond.

I think that may be the very first time I've ever heard of Jean admitting that any of what he wrote was autobiographical, and I've watched, read, and listened to a LOT of his stuff, into which he would artistically insert himself: "Well, I'm this kid, see..." while almost always denying any real life connection outside the context of his performances. =^[.]^=

Shep makes the same admission in a talk at a high school. The gist of what he says on this point is that much or most of what he writes is based on his experiences, which he imaginatively reworks to a greater or lesser degree. You'll find this high school talk at the TH-cam website called "The Jean Shepherd Show." I don't remember the exact name of the episode, but I can track it down for you if you like

Open Hearth is 100 times better! 2:56 the father in Christmas Story was HORRIBLE choice. it looks like a hostage situation when he sits with his wife. The Open Hearth cast esp. the parents, were the BEST!
