Hi Matt, Great review. Am i correct in saying that once volume pass through mode is switched on, the pre amp on the Eversolo is switched off and the pre amp that it is connected to is active.
I would like a *streamer* - without any internal DAC. Having a DAC in the streamer is not great - it is like having a DAC in a CD player. It is not likely to be as good as standalone DACs, and you have to pay for something that you won't use. If you own a good DAC, then you can use it for both the streamer and to play CDs. I have a make or break streaming service - I have listened to Radio Paradise for nearly 2 decades, and as far as I know, BlueOS is the only one that has this. I can sign into my RP account and this lets me listen to My Favorites - which I have set for any song I have rated 7 up to 10; and this list is thousands of songs. Ideally, a perfect streamer for me, would include an app for Band Camp. As far as I know - nothing included this? A weakness of the BlueOS is in the Library (all the local files) you cannot randomize the files. And Playlists within the local files doesn't seem to be there? What is the power supply in the Eversolo?
I agree with you having a DAC built-in is somewhat wasteful of money. Why pay for something you'll never use or will stop using a few months after you buy the streamer as you get a better external DAC. I'll never use the balanced outputs either. I think they are overrated and "oversold" unless you are doing a 30-foot cable run and need to minimize any electrical noise such a long run might pick up. However, I can see many people, especially newbies gravitating towards a "one box solution" like this and calling it a day. You'd think that sans-DAC and associated circuitry, they might could offer a very similar touch-screen streamer in the $500 range. That would be more tempting.
Yep, if you already have a great DAC I totally get that feedback, more flexibility for certain. Did you see BlueOS has a major overhaul on the way? That could be interesting as well, maybe they will optimize the local file library features.
@@MattCoykendall1 I have not heard anything about an update. I hope they improve it - the randomization of Favorites in Qobuz (my other big streaming source) is pretty weak. It is far from random, and only seem to handle about 6-8 groups/artists in the cycle.
You can bypass the DAC using the digital outs. I think for $850 as a streamer only is already a very good price, personally I don’t feel like the DAC is wasted at this price. The DAC is like a bonus or for new people starting up but doesn’t mean we veterans can’t enjoy the excellent streaming section, it’s a win-win unless it costs $4k. And Radio Paradise comes preinstalled.
@@iswardi_lives maybe so, but if it is something I have to throw away in 3 years because the Android O/S or the hardware won't support the later versions of the streaming apps, I'd rather be throwing away a $150 WiiM Pro instead of a $750 Eversolo. Yeah, the screen is cool, but I can use an old iPAD to control my WiiM just fine if I want.
Hello Eversolo is my first streamer and dac in my life. I was looking for something new, fresh, balanced and not expensive with lossless quality for my analog amplifiers, balanced Yamaha as2200 and Denon pma2020 rca. Eversolo has been playing well for a week. I was not interested in investing 3000 euros in a Dac .850euro ok. I think and I see after the tests that I hit pretty well.
Question...a couple actually. I have a lot of music stored on an external hard drive. Will the Eversolo read flac, wav, mp3 files from a hard drive via the USB port? Or will I have to use an SD card? Also, I like surround 5.1 sound. Will I (can I) hook the Eversolo to a 5.1 receiver or amp and enjoy the surround sound, or am I limited to just a 2 speaker set up (left and right)?
if i want to use eversolo pure as transport and the dac and amp do not have volume control, can eversolo also act as pre with digital out (say USB out)? in my experience i was getting fixed out when using as transport despite changing in setting to disable fixed mode
Great Review. Node has Subwoofer out, Subwoofer base management and HDMI. 3 Big pros . Wonder if Node + good external DAC would match the sound quality?
I think this is going to depend on your system, your preferences and your ears....at least, that is what I have learned over these past few years. I personally found my node 2i+sbooster power supply used as a transport as you are suggesting did not hold a candle when it came to soundstage width, depth and overall clarity compared to my Eversolo DMP-a6 also used as a transport only That said, I have also come across comments expressing differently. So, ymmv
Quick question...when DMP-A6 is connected to an external DAC, is each music file (flac) served up to the DAC in its raw format? ie. 24bit 96Hz Currently I have all my music library sitting on a drive on my laptop and I usually connect via usb directly to the DAC; but for reasons unknown all music files get down-sampled to 16bit 44Hz. I have plenty of higher res files but never got to hear them in their native format. So if I install an SSD of my complete library into the DMP-A6, will the DMP-A6 send the proper signal/resolution to the DAC? I don't want any down-sampling or up-sampling.
Hi Matt and thank you for the review. Did you have an opportunity to compare it to IFI Neo Stream? And if you did, which one sounds better in your opinion? Is the internal DAC better than in Bluesound Node? Thanks
I have not had the opportunity to review the Neo Stream yet so I can’t say for certain, the internal DAC in the A6 is better than the internal node DAC, the 9038 is a very competent DAC.
I have the node x and only had a few a days. It’s a lot better than running through my Denon 6400 av. I didn’t know about this streamer but now I do I am sending the node x back for a refund and ordering the dmp a6 master . I thing I need to know is if I use the xlr which is another reason to purchase can I disable the dac on the dmp as I want to run the dac on the predac peechtree I have

I’m currently using a Wiim mini plugged into my favorite dac and think it sounds really great. If I don’t need a dac and only a streamer, will there be enough of a sound quality gain with the Eversolo over the Wiim to be worth the cost? Lastly, again related to sound quality, can my Wiim mini sound quality be bettered with the Pro unit, again if one doesn’t need all the connectivity options?
It should sound better as a transport and also as a DAC. But if you only want a DAC, eversolo has that too, called DAC Z8. Wiim may be good, but eversolo is in a different class.
Nice review. For me, it's this and a budget headphone amp or the all in one Fiio R7. Would like to hear your take on the R7 if you get your hands on it.
Fiio r7 can't compare with this. This can say its on par with rose r250. If u are connecting Fiio r7 to pc u will experience lag unless u only use it for music listening because it doesn't use xmos usb.
If I run a NAD C399 with a pair of KLH Model 3's and mainly use iTunes from my MacBook Pro or my apple phone for streaming with some TH-cam would this be a good fit. I have a massive CD collection as well that I could rip onto it as well it sounds like? I just mainly hear talk in comments about it being an android running system to I'm a little hesitant to pull the trigger.
I will keep that in mind for the next one, to give a quick note the sound quality is transparent, flavors can be added through the filters but I have preferred the default to this point. The 9038 is a great DAC, I have it in a Audiolab 9000a as well, no notable differences between the sonics these two implementations.
Great review! It's also been reviewed as sounding way better than the Bluesound Node. Curious if Amazon would ever certify the direct use of their service based on what has been encountered from having waited and waited for something similar via Volumio and other platforms.
It does seem to be remarkably good value for money. I prefer to use my own DACs with my streamers, but the DAC section on this seems really rather good, and as an all in one solution, it has a lot going for it. Personally, I find eArc a pain in the butt, especially in complex AV systems, but bidirectional HDMI and the ability to view the screen on a TV would indeed be helpful. Can you cast from the device to a smart TV or just cast to the device from a phone or tablet ? Also, can you add apps to the device from Play Store as it runs Android ? Enjoyed the review. Thanks.
The DMP-A6 can only cast to your phone or tablet through the control app. You can in turn mirror or send what's on your phone or tablet to your smart tv if it has Airplay or similar capabilities, but I didn't find that incredibly useful. It introduced additional latency to the visuals (such as the vu meters) and the album art wasn't really of high enough resolution to look that great on screen to me.
Hello, may I ask a silly question: can this connect to speakers wirelessly? I was interested in the Sonos era 300. This would be in one location while the speakers would be in another. Thank you so much!
@@MattCoykendall1 Hello. A follow-up question please and thank you in advance. You mentioned this device does not natively send the signals over wifi and thus could not be send to wifi speakers (e.g. Era 300) but the Eversolo page says it can send music to WIFI devices on the same LAN. So if my speakers are on my LAN, they should receive the music, correct? Thanks again and glad to be a follower!
I had the Eversolo on order, backordered... I cancelled it, when for shits and giggles, I bought a WiiM Mini during the Amazon sale day. I am using a PS Audio Stellar Gaincell DAC/Preamp I picked up on the used market, with a vintage 1970 Sansui 4000 receiver. The PS Audio and WiiM Mini combo blew me away, so I bought the WiiM Pro for the Digital Coax output vs the Optical out on the WiiM Mini... The WiiM has Amazon native, and Qobuz, my two streaming services. The clincher with the WiiM, is the 10 band graphic equalizer. The EQ function simply takes the inexpensive WiiM products to heights that most streamers cannot touch, using an external DAC, at any price. I paid just a few dollars more for the WiiM/PS Audio combo, roughly $950 all in, and the sound is incredible through my old 1970 Sansui 4000 out to a pair of Zu DW6 speakers with the Supreme upgrade. A match made in audio heaven.
@@13thnotehifireviews7 … Lumin U1 Mini … DAC well … say a Matrix X Sabre Pro. RS250 and D2 is better. The Mytek Brooklyn Bridge is better. The A6 is better than the Node X or Silent Angel Munich, it’s got better value. The A6 is high value but the marketing hype is clear. I seen some place it near the high end streamers and let people assume. Some descriptions of the sound has failed to state in detail. There’s no refinement as to how people are assuming after watching/reading reviews. I’ve seen this from dealers and end users. Feedback from them is there’s hype. Why would dealers say that? But of course, you cannot doubt it’s high in value. Again, I will say this. The A6 is a very high value component. No doubts about it. But there’s also a lot of hype being created. I like to see reviews like how the headfi guys do it. Comparisons. So the end user understand where it stands. They have a better view. That is lacking of late. Too much marketing.
Is this Roon Ready or Roon Tested? I prefer simple and cheaper music streamer transport , connect to external DAC based on one sound preference. Then use Roon to broadcast display music (lyric, album art, info, and all sort of metadata) into TV , it's bigger screen than the 6" screen... only if Roon software team to develop a VU meter as screensaver ( waiting)
@@MattCoykendall1 But the certification hasn't been signed off yet, Roon were a little pissed about this (rightly so) and the Eversolo team have apologised, however it will hopefully be rectified in the near future.
Another great review Matt. Has anyone been able to add tracks from multiple sources to a single currently-playing queue, like you can on a BlueSound NODE? I purchased an A6 thinking this would be a fundamental feature of any streamer but it doesn’t look possible (yet). It’s nowhere near a slick to use as my NODE N130 but definitely sounds better. (More detail and better soundstage). I haven’t seen any direct comparisons with the NODE X yet. That would be a great shoot-out.
@@MattCoykendall1 the thing with ifi if you really want to hear them you need to use a farad super3 power supply to test how much better they can sound.
I replaced my Bluesound Node with the DMP-A6. The only problem I’ve found is that you can’t output to a digital connection when using the Bluetooth input. Sometimes I want to connect a computer via Bluetooth to stream a podcast. The Node has the feature but the Eversolo doesn’t. Very annoying.
The streamer is great for the money, but needs work with its app. Here's a few problems with the app: 1) The options and configuration ability differs between the default app view and the casting view. It's frustrating. 2) The info you can view through the Qobuz app differs between the default app view and the casting view. For example, if I look at new releases using the default app it will not show me the artist, but only the album name. I can see using the cast feature, though. Very frustrating. 3) There's no home button using the default app. You can be 6 or 7 pages deep into a music app and you need to keep hitting the back button to get home. Again, frustrating. 4) The displayed bitrate isn't representative of what you are listening to. You can be streaming a 24/96 song and the Eversolo app may say it's 16/44. Again, frustrating. These are all things Eversolo needs to work on for its customers to keep them happy and if they want to be considered a giant killer.
Problem with this is really good chance they won't keep updating it in the long term. They will release a new product and this will be forgotten rendering it crippled.
Amazon Music is a deal-killer for me as I abhor unnecessary complications like wonky work-arounds. I'd probably go with the Cocktail Audio (N-25 I think) even though I'd miss this larger screen here.
The DMP-A6 is my second choice of streamer because of may of it's strong points some of which you have mentioned ,most notably ;the sound quality. I am though thinking of buying the Innuos Pulse mini as it seems it is of a similar sound quality ,but apparently you can shuffle songs in your playlists. What would you say? can it be used to manipulate and create playlists?
Stylistic choice I suppose. Personally I'll stick with a cheap WiiM with its independently verified bit perfect S/PDIF output into a superior standalone DAC and laugh at how much the cork sniffers pay for a high end streamer and then connect an external DAC!
The Wiims are nice value options so I own both. The EverSolo to me is better in many ways so that is going on my main system with my Gustard R26 R2R Dac. I prefer the HiFi Rose and expect it to be more expensive, but I don't feel streamers like it or the Auralic G2, etc. is worth 5 grand for MY system. Plus, I'm old and dying, so I will be plenty happy and still have a few grand leftover for other bucket list items 😅 Hell, that's enough for some nice new speakers..hmm,🤔 I think that's exactly what I will do. Enjoy your music and cherish every single moment you have ❤
Thank you for the review. I just got my Eversolo A6 from Amazon and want to use it as a streamer ONLY going into my Hegel H390 integrated. Which digital out sounds better? USB audio out or coax?
@@Pete.across.the.street Excuse me if this is a repeat as TH-cam seems to have disappeared my response. Anyway, it is true. The whole point of digital was speedy, reliable transmission and (compact) storage If there is a difference in the ones and zeros, then either the transmission or receiving method is not within spec. In short, if both the streamer and DAC have implemented the different connections properly, there will be no difference. When it comes to decoding the data and the analogue stage after, then there can be a measurable difference. And that's why certain manufacturers choose to alter the sound to suit specific user preferences.
Looks good and a nice review. Thanks! At ~$750 (when you can actually find one as you noted) do you have any qualms about it being based on Android, a "flavor" that is already two years old? Using Android has benefits such as offloading the development of apps to 3rd parties themselves such as Tidal or Apple Music. But does that mean the lifecycle of this device is going to be limited to about 3 to 5 years max before those apps no longer work and the O/S or hardware won't support newer versions? I know many would argue that digital streaming is so new, getting 4 years out of a device is "enough". Maybe so for a $150 WiiM Pro, but for a $750 device, I'm not so sure, especially one that will have zero resale value once it is long in the tooth. Nothing is guaranteed for any device. I guess we have to face that. Any thoughts?
Yeah and its a fair point, I think when you buy something like this it will be; profit now but dont go down with the ship. Enjoy what it delivers today but dont expect this to be a lifetime piece or anything of the sort. I plan to enjoy it now, it does things very well in my opinion, but I will likely have moved off of it before its end of life cycle, who knows maybe a V2 of the product.
@@ericjohnson829 think it was about $750 when it was first being talked about. Demand has probably given them a reason to bump it up and/or the currency exchange rate changed. Just checked...nothing on Amazon came up at all. Summit Hi Fi has it for $899, making it price comparable to the limited edition Node X ($999). With it pushing the $900 price, that makes me even more concerned that it becomes an expensive paperweight within 3 years when the Android 11 based O/S won't support the streaming apps that will be current at that time. I mean, my ballpark for something I can only get 3 to 5 years use out of is about $500. If more than that, I'm going to be looking at something else, like maybe the new lower cost streamers by NAD and Cambridge.
I have a remote it works perfect and it’s only $13 it’s plastic not metal I wish they’d upgrade but most people don’t give a damn about metal. I do an audio files do that’s bill quality anyhow there is one available a remote I got it through Amazon and it was like 12 or $13 cheap cheap
The lack of a single analog input killed this Eversolo for me. I want all the streaming, but with my records too. Last night I dropped the cash for a Powersound Node X and a Schiit Vidar 2.
Rubbish it has a wider soundstage than blue sound. It does not have sun out but it does not need too. The separation and mid range is so noticeably clear and you do not get tired of listening . Buy one it worth more than the money you pay for it.
Beware of system and software bugs. Many of them. Product is still too new. Wait for another year if you can wait. Bought one and experienced frustration using it. They're using consumers as their free testers 😡. Thanks for sharing.

@@providencez9496 apart from the lag, which won't affect me, it looks to be the real deal.
Is the internal storage available remotely, a la PlexAmp?
Yes, the eversolo has an SMB service that you can use to access, both the internal storage and your m.2 drive
@@sunshine242-l4y I guess I better learn about it. I've never used SMB before.
Over all good insight to usability and features but not alot bout sound quality, as a dac or streamer.
I will keep that in mind for the next one, to give a quick note the sound quality is transparent, flavors can be added through the filters but I have preferred the default to this point. The 9038 is a great DAC, I have it in a Audiolab 9000a as well, no notable differences between the sonics these two implementations.
@@MattCoykendall1 thanks for the reply.
Sounds better than my Node 2i (2019).
@@MattCoykendall1 if you put that in your review, it will be 10 out of 10, now I give you a 9, 😀.
Play dolby atmos from Tidal or Amazon Music?
Great review! It's also been reviewed as sounding way better than the Bluesound Node. Curious if Amazon would ever certify the direct use of their service based on what has been encountered from having waited and waited for something similar via Volumio and other platforms.
WiiM and Bluesound pulled it off so there is hope, at least the app is developed if/when they get the approval.
It does sound way better than the node 2021
just curious, what's that integrated amp sitting next to the Eversolo around 4:57? it looks gorgeous
Review coming on that one, its the @buchardtaudio925 Buchardt Audio I150 Integrated Amplifier, it does look gorgeous doesn't it.
You would need something with a Bluetooth transmitter, this one won’t do that.
I just got the A6 Master Edition. Sound quality? Too many reviewers are selling BS. It’s great for the price but it’s not mind blowing.
So what do you reckon it compares to dac wise hush puppy?
@@13thnotehifireviews7 … sorry … meaning?
@@hushpuppykl what other streamers and Dacs - if we say not mind blowing there has to be a context
Does it sound as good as the Topping D90 as a DAC?
I would have liked some eq/tone controls..
Yeah I agree, maybe we will see an update on this one.
I can't get the VU meter to work, they stay down while playing music
If I have Tidal or Amazon Music, I also want to be able to listen to Atmos music. Not being able to do that is a big letdown.
Yeah… wish it was an option.
It’s Roon ready
@@MattCoykendall1 But the certification hasn't been signed off yet, Roon were a little pissed about this (rightly so) and the Eversolo team have apologised, however it will hopefully be rectified in the near future.
CXN (v2) comparison please.
how is it with apple music?
Hey they have the Masters Edition. Look in to it and see if u can get one and review it. Thx
I will check into it
Add eArc and PEQ and it would be god-send
PEQ could come across as a software update but sadly we will be waiting for eArc, maybe V2.
Does it have an audio equalizer in the menu?
It does not
Another great review Matt.
Not positive on the track question, will have to give it a try, I am curious on the node x as well.
Nope, something I miss from my use of the Node 2i. That and the ability to ready m3u playlists files.
Nice review! How about ifi neo or ifi zen stream ?
Great suggestion! The Zen stream seems to be the most common request for comparison but I have not had it in yet.
Yeah the node still can’t be denied on its features, offers a lot for the price.
Spot on about that home button
Problem with this is really good chance they won't keep updating it in the long term. They will release a new product and this will be forgotten rendering it crippled.
It’s definitely possible, time will tell.
That's a possibility for all products, including Apple. Isn't it?
Amazon Music is a deal-killer for me as I abhor unnecessary complications like wonky work-arounds. I'd probably go with the Cocktail Audio (N-25 I think) even though I'd miss this larger screen here.
I do hope we see that Amazon approval soon as well.
It is there now
The DMP-A6 is my second choice of streamer because of may of it's strong points some of which you have mentioned ,most notably ;the sound quality.
I am though thinking of buying the Innuos Pulse mini as it seems it is of a similar sound quality ,but apparently you can shuffle songs in your playlists.
What would you say? can it be used to manipulate and create playlists?
What about a missing IIS out?
Very true
I must be missing something. Why do you need to have a screen when you can see everything you need to on your iPad?
Stylistic choice I suppose.
Personally I'll stick with a cheap WiiM with its independently verified bit perfect S/PDIF output into a superior standalone DAC and laugh at how much the cork sniffers pay for a high end streamer and then connect an external DAC!
WiiM is awesome, I have both the mini and pro, mine are paired with an external DAC as well.
Enjoy your music and cherish every single moment you have ❤
This brand will be forgotten about in 12 months. Something else will come along.
What will that be?
Missing: i2s and EAS/EBU.
Truth!
Where to buy this streamer?
Keep an eye on Amazon
Thank you for the review. I just got my Eversolo A6 from Amazon and want to use it as a streamer ONLY going into my Hegel H390 integrated. Which digital out sounds better? USB audio out or coax?
I would start with the USB
Digital is digital.
As long as your DAC has half decent buffering there really shouldn't be a difference.
@@pauln6803 Thats not true. But if he already has it why is he asking, just try and see.
@@Pete.across.the.street
Excuse me if this is a repeat as TH-cam seems to have disappeared my response.
Anyway, it is true.
The whole point of digital was speedy, reliable transmission and (compact) storage
If there is a difference in the ones and zeros, then either the transmission or receiving method is not within spec.
In short, if both the streamer and DAC have implemented the different connections properly, there will be no difference.
When it comes to decoding the data and the analogue stage after, then there can be a measurable difference.
And that's why certain manufacturers choose to alter the sound to suit specific user preferences.
@@pauln6803 ok. Different outputs from the same streamer sound different though.
4:15 Why did you skip the digital out conections?
Charging you extra for a remote is a foul!! At the asking price it should be in the box. I like remotes a lot.
Agreed, I have it now and it works great but I never should have had to pay for it separately.
I’m still holding out until someone can stream Apple Music without AirPlay. Until then I’ll stick with my Bluestream Node.
Yeah Apple really has a tight grip on that one
$750 ? In the U.S. it sells for between $859 and $899 at most outlets.
@@rosswarren436 I don't know, ASR listed at $850 in April when Amir reviewed, Steve Huff mentioned $850 - $900 in his review which really launched it.
@@ericjohnson829 maybe so. But I swear I saw a blurb on it back in late February. The price may have been an estimate, not written in stone.
No EQ (cheap Wiim has EQ). No Atmos through HDMI
Certainly room for improvements
As soon as you said no atmos ,it was a no go for me ..
Noone says it's the PERFECT DAC.
I picked up the same one, at least it’s cheap.
Would be nice to see a comparison between this and the ziddo NEO S.
The lack of a single analog input killed this Eversolo for me. I want all the streaming, but with my records too. Last night I dropped the cash for a Powersound Node X and a Schiit Vidar 2.
Yeah, this one just lives in the digital realm
Not even close. The dac portion is of a cheap AV receiver level, and the software is horrible.
Sorry but when it comes to usability its bad in my opinion...
Yeah but you can’t find it
It is a tough one to track down right now.
Rubbish it has a wider soundstage than blue sound. It does not have sun out but it does not need too. The separation and mid range is so noticeably clear and you do not get tired of listening . Buy one it worth more than the money you pay for it.
Pretty weak cons 😂… apart from hdmi arc the rest have fixes or are about to be fixed. Great video though.
Right not tooo many cons on this one, a few annoyances and then the HDMI was the main offender for myself
Et si au lieu de parler de la machine, on parlait de l'écoute, cette vidéo serait utile.
I will cover that in more detail if I do a follow up!
Very nice affordable alternative to a HiFi Rose. However, a laptop and separate DAC can do the job just as well and offer more flexibility
you dont need earc on a audio device lmao
Beware of system and software bugs. Many of them. Product is still too new. Wait for another year if you can wait. Bought one and experienced frustration using it. They're using consumers as their free testers 😡. Thanks for sharing.
The looks of this .. I def prefer the new Matrix
So wait.....youre saying you can't display to your TV with the HDMI out?
Correct, would just be a blue screen if you attempted.
@@MattCoykendall1 Wow . Huge letdown. I hope they are listening and will remedy that in the near future.
