25:24 Stygian Skin gives you 10 invulnerability which can replace natural protection against mundane attacks if the invulnerability is higher. The hound starts at 14 so it would literally do nothing, and it especially makes no sense to have it together with Hard Skin. Yeah, death blesses kinda suck.
You're completely right - I was tired when I was doing this video, and in a couple places it definitely shows! Undying x4 or some Undead Leadership would be better picks, though none of the Death blesses would be terrible useful.
Undying is useful if you have undead, because in that case it's essentially twice as efficient as the other health buffs, and undead leadership can be situationally useful for certain factions that spam undead. Other than that, the only death blesses you'd want are a bit expensive for what you get, such as reforming flesh or even fear.
I could see a use for the cyclops commanders - not as commanders or anything, but as archers. Namely, their huge strength would lend itself very well to being given something like a bow of war, which would cause 8+ 24/3 = 16 damage per arrow. Their low precision is somewhat of a handicap in this situation, but in large enough battles even a low precision unit is going to hit SOMETHING useful with a bow of war.
Yeah they're still pretty handy even though most of the pretender chassis he's covered here have been increased in price. The basic strategy he's talking about is still important. Though the scales might not be able to match exactly to how he's done it here. Only part he's wrong about is gigantomachia, due to a recent update they changed how it works and now it's quite useful. he did make an update video on this change btw. -10 gold cost on giants, So any giant you recruit is now cheaper. So you can think of massing some of those cyclops warriors and gigante warriors. And even the commander giants are cheaper. It's not as good for phelgra as it is for EA mekone because phelgra does have those human communion mages but it's still something that can help. it costs 4 fire and 4 earth to cast so it's easier to get than it was. and a +3 on conflict bonus for spreading your dominion. Which is great because you want decent scales as Phlegra, so spreading those scales is very nice I don't know if it's necessarily a spell you always want to rush toward, but it's at least something you can keep in mind when you get enough earth gems to cast it. Also they do get sow dragon teeth now, which is a very useful spell to have. and it's in enchantment 6 which you're likely going down anyways to get flaming arrows at enchantment 4.
Man these guys are cool, I just wish there was a goodboys variant of them, because I don't always want to feel like I'm a nation of slaving madmen (madgiants?). But damn, seems like a super fun nation to play, great video!
Hey you should do a MA Mict overview.. They really get shitted on because people think no access to blood = weak, but in reality they are a very competitive and capable nation if you handle them right. I'm currently playing them in 2 separate games with a 3rd already finished. Off the top tips: they have a bonus in A(+2)/N(+1) so you can easily get a pretty good A/N bless for your sacreds (thunder weapons and barkskin come to mind). I never tried it in MP, but 15 shock resis with charged bodies on eagles was pretty good in my expansion tests with little casualties (most caused by eagles getting killed while they were still stunned from CB). A viable strat is to break into blood to get Civetateo's, you'll practically be a flightless (excluding eagle warriors) Nazca with all the skele reanimation, however you won't unlock cive's until blood 5. A good way to break into blood is to get one of the natural D/B god chassis, a rainbow chassis (very viable with Mictlan's Law Giver chassis), or a statue god. -------------------------------------------- Disclaimer: Breaking into blood isn't always viable, and can be an easy way to get throttled if you don't know what you're doing. It's usually better to research blood once you get your research established in other magic schools, but rushing for blood isn't too bad, just not too great. Best to rush blood when you know you can make peace with most if not all your neighbors in the early game. The earlier you breach blood 5, the higher your chance of survival becomes. --------------------------------------------- You can either max scales which is actually one of the best things you can do for MA Mict (they need gold baaad, and their only decent troops are their sacreds and moon warriors... maybe the mace guys since it's MA) or you can dump your points into magic for blesses which is also a viable strat.. Honestly I never liked the cheesey quad-bless strategy and it really doesn't fit MA Mict considering their Eagles aren't that great other than that they can fly (when blessed) and they dual wield (spear repel is pretty good makeup for lack of shield, esp when you give them an attack boosting bless). Blesses I'd recommend personally? If you're breaking into blood, go for stygian skin or meme-rainbow bless (get magic weapons over solar weapons if you go this route unless Ermor is IG). Other than that, charged bodies with BOTH minor & major shock resist (trust me, you NEED that extra shock resis to make CB's viable), strength boosters, defence skill, attack skill, blood surge, barkskin (although you do have wooden warriors casters naturally), HP boosters as long as they are stacked with other offensive or armor blesses, quickness, explosive bodies (if you want to troll), any magic weapon bless excluding frost/poison/solar/withering weapons because they're all weak; solar weapons can be useful if Ermor/Sceleria/Asphodel are IG, but still not really worth it considering you can just get magic weapons for less dmg to undead but superior damage overall. Air shield could be useful, but even in Dom4 it was a heavily slept on and useless bless so it may still be the same in Dom5 but idk. Reinvig is also good (mostly for mages and Sun warriors) but not really needed with Mictlan. That's all I got for now, don't wanna give up all my secrets on my fav nation :p
Nice job. I'd be interested in seeing a second playthrough with them at some point, with all your lessons learned. And here's hoping that late age Phlegra comes out soon!
with these guys i made a statue of war with 6 candles +3 in everything except heat scale and imprisoned him and building temples everywhere, i am steam rolling everything with slave armies and tyrants leading gigantes, and was expanding from turn 2 because of the mad resourced gained by scales hiring as many slave warriors i could first turn then attacking the weakest province next to me then kept going then spamming the shackle mages for research, lmao, i didn't even try the slave gather move yet, our tactics are vary different but are vary effective. :)
So son I hear you have joined the mage core what division are you in? I'm a part of the very elite and very important and not at all likely to die communion battery division
Isn't it a good idea to use the dom 5 mod inspector to show national spells and national summons? I believe Yakri uses it that way. I can't remember if you have used it before, so forgive me if you did use it already. I am loving the Basic nation analyses, it really makes me want to play the nations that you talk about. It is fascinating to me how Ilwinter managed to create so many interesting factions for such a niche game, while high budget developers get nowhere close in originality and diversity. I believe that the pressure to make money really inhibits creativity. Anyway, keep up the good work.
I imagine a LA Mekone-Phlegra will be a nation of almost only humans, mainly enslaved ones with forced Communions, just like now. Cyclops will have gone extinct and the last of the Gigantes will either be a Capital-only Mage-Thug or have been enslaved by the humans at last. At least, that's my guess, following the themes of MA-LA nations.

Thank you very much for all of these overviews. Dominions is fun and has a lot of moving parts, to it is easy to overlook something powerful .

BFG (Batteries For Giants) Division
Oh battery division, so you mean artillery salvos and the like?
You could say that son, you could.

I guess this was made before "capture slaves" caused unrest? How does that change the play?
I wish the game explained communions better since I still barely know what they do outside boost magic paths and sharing casting fatigue
That's basically it
Please do more elysium it is alot easier and funner to watch but i like both thumbs ☝. Great content
