I’m leaning towards it being legit. Trust me, Beldam increasing Marilyn’s size for the passive stat boost was one thing. But Marilyn outright deciding to hold her fire and charge power for the next attack… After she had already done it once already!?
That’s a strategy only PLAYERS (and Macho Grubba) use! I’ve never seen common enemies in the original try doing anything like this, let alone a boss.

The Three Shadows is a pretty generic name for the witches. Shadow Sirens is a cooler and more unique title, even Shadow Sisters.

While “Shadow Sirens” _did_ sound better, it’s not very accurate. Sirens are alluring and musical… or very loud... neither of which are fitting descriptions of the trio.

Yeah, they changed the names and dialogue in the remake. They actually also did this in the remake of Super mario rpg. Some of the characters' names were changed. Frogfucius was changed to the frog sage. Mack was renamed Claymorton, and yaridovich was renamed speardovich.
I'll always remember it as her saying the latter, though.

Closer to original translation. This is cause Vivian is perceived as male in the original Japanese version and they were called the Shadow Trio. Original localization retconned Vivian to be female entirely.

Otherwise, let's rename Bowser to Koopa, Madame Flurrie to Madame Cloud, the Crystal Stars to the Star Stones, etc. I don't understand why in this particular instance, we have to remove a cool localized name.
It was an invention of the localization of the original, which was much cooler.

not watching the video as i am not here yet and want to experience it for myself, but im so happy to see this "change" to the game. Vivian was always my favourite partner, i remember around 08 or 09 finding out about the regional difference, i was pretty bummed that we missed a large part of the character development due to how different censorship/localisation was at the time. its not a minor plot detail at all, its one of the major characters of the game, and its a central part of her identity (pun intended). chapter 4 in general has such a cool aesthetic, so im soo excited to play it for myself!
First off it is a minor plot detail because if you remove that detail from the game, the game doesn’t change one bit. Therefore, by definition, it’s a minor detail. It’s also easily miscible because if you skip over the dialogue too quickly and chapter 4, you’ll never know about it. Nintendo made it ambiguous on purpose for a reason.
And with all of this strange gender debate that is happening because of the remake people have done some digging online and over on Reddit and Twitter people found an old forum with developers from the original game discussing development with fans, and they confirmed that Vivian was never intended to be transgender and it was just a mistake that localizers made outside of Japan. Simple as that buddy. Stop pushing misinformation!

I am somewhat relieved. The german version made no mention of Vivian being a transgirl in this scene, so I was worried that it was the only version that still censors her status. I will check what they say in chapter 4.

Regarding how they handled Vivian's identiy, I'm glad they kept the best of both the original Japanese and English versions. She's trans like in the OG Japanese version while Goombella's tattle on Viv is identical to the OG English version. In the Japanese version, she misgenders Viv while the English one remarks her as cute.

What happend to Shadow Sirens?
The OG Japanese script these three are called "カゲ三人組", and only Vivian refers the group as sisters given that Beldam wouldn't acknowledge Vivian as anything but a man. The localization change they made in the remake version are not exactly the same compared to the original script (idk maybe they didn't have the guts of straight up making Beldam transphobic potentially?), though this is a translation more loyal to the OG I suppose

Bedlam doesn't use the name because she doesn't want to acknowledge Vivian as her sister. This is just a more accurate translation of the original script, not a script change.

I think they rewrote this to give Vivian the agency of coming out to Mario herself in chapter 4. Looking at the JP text in the remake it's near one-to-one with this new dialogue. It's welcome but it does remove the subtext of goombella's tattle being about how pissed she is she's mogged by a tgirl.

The hypocrisy is crazy.
When the Mario vs. Donkey Kong remake removes a lot of the custcenes' charm and personality with Mario's unique voicelines and expressiveness, turning them into just Mario running after DK basically, as well as the score system and fall damage which offered a great challenge for the people who wanted one, "it's not a big deal".
But when this remake changes some of the dialogue in order to be inclusive and show some representation that was always there in most versions of the original, it's the end of the world. Well except for the Shadow Sirens name. I do admit it is a bit of a shame.
Over on Reddit and Twitter people have done a lot of digging in regards to what was really intended to be in the original games and somebody found a really old forum with a couple of intelligent systems, developers talking with fans and they admitted that Vivian was never intended to be transgender, and it was just a massive mistake, made by localizer in the Italian, French, and Spanish versions.
With that becoming more widespread knowledge by the day, people are getting pissed because now technically Nintendo just changed a preestablished character to fit some sort of a narrative. That’s why people cry about things going. Nobody likes it when an existing and established character has their gender or race or something changed about them for the sake of diversity. It’s lazy. People would rather see companies come up with new games or new TV shows or whatever the case maybe and then include their new transgender characters. Stop changing stuff that we already knew was the exact opposite.
Yeah... The chuds are, unfortunately, the biggest plagues of the gaming and film community.😔 They're always bothered by non-issues...

@@techno-- I can link the Reddit post, but can’t link the forum because according to what I read on Reddit, people are trying to find it and they can’t find it although multiple people are confirming it’s existence and confirming what was said. I tried to look for it myself and it’s absolutely, buried deep within the fami board website, they keep talking about. I’m sure it’s there, but it’ll probably take quite a bit of digging to pull it up.

@@voltron77 even if this remake sell well, the next Paper Mario will probably still have no exp, no level ups, no badges, and no unique toads, goombas etc. How many remakes did we buy on Switch that didnt leed to a new entry in those franchise? We got a captain toad port, no sequel. They sold us a mario 3D all stars and ditched Galaxy 2, acting like it never existed. We will never get Galaxy 3. Brought Metroid Prime 1 remake. No Prime 2 remake and Prime 4 is still vaporware.
This sucks because this terrible decision that Nintendo made will make people like me not get the game when I was planning on it. If the game flops, I hope Nintendo realizes it’s because they wanted to go woke and not because people don’t like old Paper Mario
