What would a weekend in San Francisco be without a race? Includes the tunnel, lots of descending down killer hills, and "high tech weaving" through downtown traffic
That was great to watch and brought back lots of memories. For those who don't understand what they are seeing, this is an open course messenger race often called an "alley cat race" where riders go from one stop to the next often not knowing where the following stop will be. There are lots of ways to run an event like this with the best being manned stations that require a stamp on a manifest .Many events feature hard to find small streets or alley's that one has to look up on a cross street map. In San Francisco races can feature some extreme hills that are more steep than any road in the Tour De France. Most of the participants in these events work 8+ hours a day riding the same streets in traffic. The general principle of cycling in traffic is don't make anyone else slow down and be very aware of your surroundings and be prepared to take evasive action to save your life. I personally liked the lane splitting at speed @ 1:02-1:07. As a messenger, even these days one has to sometimes ride very fast through traffic to make it in to a court house or other place before the doors close and it's a job that cannot be done by a driver or cyclist obeying all the traffic laws. This film gives a person a glimpse into what doing a 15 minute rush job (or tag as it's called) can be like.
I love this video! Really got into it, too - I was leaning with the cyclist round the corners, and ended up guessing which way he'd go! I even saw the pick-up and thought "Now I'd be tempted to grab hold of that about now..." :) Thanks!
wow that's pretty cool-going through the red light seems kinda dangerous but shows that biking can be a good alternative once traffic reaches a certain level
A great street to ride was Gough street. From the top going south all the traffic lights were timed so that you could bomb down hill and catching substantial air where the street would level off at intersections. They were launching pads.
Great video! Being from the Bay Area, I wish I could ride like this. Can you tell me what the prize was? I couldnt see racing like this if the prize wasnt good. Thanks.
yeaaah!!! I love going that fast ever! Bicicle is faster than cars on streets!, I always get first on my bike than people on bus or car!!! THIS IS REAL SPEED (for the one who said is not) I do it TOO!!! COOL
only the boring part where they're doing the uphill climb in the tunnel is sped up, the rest is as is.. Lucas Brunelle doesn't need to speed up his videos when they're this exciting!
prosecute shmosecute, rode that way every day for 8 yrs with only 2 tickets, messengers keep the wheels of industry turning. ok, only rode hard like that for maybe an hour a day at most but still this is nice flashback video.
@562tamez all the way across the city in under 15 minutes? please, unless you're a bike messenger with some experience, dont talk shit about real bike messengers. and it's not a fixie, it's a fixed-gear. i ride one but dont talk shit about any rider. it's called respect.
@xxbondsxx I have a sticker inside my helmet that has my full name, blood type, & contact info for my family. Good thing I'm not allergic to many things

can some1 tell me how it calls the song? ty and very nice video .. keep it up!!!
how wide are those lanes... and they have big cars too....
they should make a movie with these bikes messengers. it would far surpass Macaframa and MASH.
i almost got hit by a bus doing this in downtown LA lol
most sf messengers rock a geared bike cause of the crazy ass hills but fixies arent all that uncommon either.
@xhappyxscreamingx Agree to a point, but the cars driving in the bike lane, is why cyclists hate motorists.
if it is sped up then why are the cars going at normal in-city speeds?
bommin' those hills...rad..
was it fixed?? i saw him stop pedeling a few times i thought??. sick vid though
seriously i saw it flash. no way he fit his shoulders through that
great job, too bad internet is taking the business
@HeadMan12345 You have no idea....and don't forget going down the other side when you're on your brakeless fixiewhip!
1:06 lol i think he broke a mirror
@CycleMan2200 they look like they are in control to me, its a race anyway, its a one off, they don't always ride like this
how fast are these guys going?
lol how long did u guys ride
@crazymansf no they don't, they want to live, they live a lot more riding past you than you do sat in your car
prosecute shmosecute, rode that way every day for 8 yrs with only 2 tickets, messengers keep the wheels of industry turning. ok, only rode hard like that for maybe an hour a day at most but still this is nice flashback video.
be funny if someone just opened there door and on of you flipped and he was like FUCK FIXIES :D
yeah once your 18 you dont weed one. its like super laxed though like if you look older than 10 and a cop sees you your pretty much good
sped up most of the video?
haha seriously i wear a helmet too. breaking bones is ok, getting permanent brain damage = not so much
lol, it'd be slow. i've seen fixie riders push thier bikes uphill
Impewssive footage ... wish I could see it at the speed it was filmed. It's obviously speeded up.
